- From the very start of the series, fans have felt the love Carmelita has for her ringtail raccoon Sly. They’ve always had this unusual type of relationship, where both fought for justice on opposite side of the law. Although Cooper seemed like a criminal for Interpol most of the time, she knew deep down that Sly was the love of her life.
In Sly Cooper 3 Honor among Thieves, Sly faked amnesia and this was clearly hinted at during the credits scene. One Sanzaru Games took over, they continued with that story. Did Sly work for Interpol or was he simply Carmelita’s lover?

Lets see: Sly steals a kiss in the first game, and shows hearts all around her face, she helps sly on multiple occasions, she saved a bottle of champagne to have with sly for when she finally catches him, she calls him "my criminal" and covers for him at the end of 3, she gets in an actual relationship with him in 3, and in an animated short, it's shown on her desk she keeps ALL his notes to her she finds at crime scenes inside her desk. They both have feelings for each other 100%. Probably the best couple of the ps2 era, and it took 3 games to develop their relationship.
He should have told her the TRUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do want to see Sly and Carmelita getting together, extending on their relationship. They already were in one already, why not build up on that, forget about the past events and get together? It's the "Now", that counts, not what has happened.
I also think, that both Sly and Carmelita wanted to engage on said relationship. While Sly was being crushed by the monstrosity of Dr.M, he said, that he was a coward towards Carmelita and "I would tell her exactly how I feel, if she was here". That alone shows, both wanted it, one way or the other.
Also, another sidenote: Who took the picture of Sly, Bentley and Murray, when they were gliding away after the plane crashed into the mountain? Was it Zig and Zag? Did we miss an important little Easter Egg? No, seriously, who took that photo?
Just thinking about sly walking into Interpol headquarters all casual with Carmelita has me laughing

I think that Sly was probably working alongside Carmelita. While there's nothing to explicitly prove it, there's also nothing to explicitly disprove it. Logically, he would have had a job in the time between 3 and 4, and police officer seems more up Sly's alley than fast food cashier.

Plus, maybe Carmelita was able to convince her boss to go along with the Constable Cooper charade... he is a skilled individual, he would probable do quite a bit of good using those skills to help the police.

I always wondered if Carmelita still loved Sly, even after she caught up with him with his amnesia in the 4th game.
After Paradox was defeated, and Sly disappeared, she started to miss him after he was gone for many weeks after the Blimp vanished with Sly on it.
I think Carmelita will still ❤️ Sly after he is rescued.
She does love him and will help the gang as much as she can.
Well, as far as the whole "Constable Cooper" thing she could easily brush Cooper off as her "non-active partner" meaning she does the hard work while Cooper is doing desk duty in a way, until THAT incident saying that he followed her and sunk in with the other mercs she hired. Also you forgot to mention how Sly 2 ended, with how they talked to each other like they were on a "date" together, and after they had spent so much time together before and during their time travel "date" she got to better understand Sly and the roll he plays as a Thief. She realized that his job is truthfully no different than hers, save for the fact that she wears a badge and he doesn't, she HAS to follow a set rule book while he has a more free hand to collect evidence for her to arrest the crooks they catch.
Honestly Sly 3 was a great finale. Sly 4 felt like a bad fan fiction game rather than a legitimate story continuation
Ironic how 3 games that got a sequel all had an ending that could both end the series on a good note but also leave room for continuation, while the one that didn't get a sequel had a cliffhanger ending. Ain't that a load of crap. Also, I think they shouldn't have bothered with the gang using time travel in order to stop the main villain, it would've been better (and easier imo) if it just picked off Sly 3's ending where Bentley and Penelope finish building the time machine and use it to watch and examine the Cooper family bloodline's adventures.

okay, I don't really have much information on Sly working with Carmelita or Interpol because we just see that he's with her but not working with her. He seems to have time to spy so its possible for something there but I don't have enough information to say yes or no. One thing for sure is when I play the fourth game, I really can't agree with Carmelita being so angry with Sly. It is true that Sly lied about having amnesia but she also lied making it on her as well for lying. She had set herself up to fail, especially with the main trap of believing she changed him, I don't know many who wouldn't think that with someone they love. If she had been honest with him and not claimed him to be a agent of Interpol and said more on the truth that she wanted a relationship with him without the Sly Cooper Gang there then I would have understood her anger. Being lied to or lying to someone is by far a way to fail. I know many don't agree but if Carmelita is mad at Sly for lying then she really should be understanding and not shooting at him because she did it herself on lying to Sly as well. Sly was trying to be honest and she let herself get so worked up over him lying to her that she didn't treat him fairly, to me anyway.
Ahh another side to this story I like it!

I'm a bit late to the party now, but I'm pretty sure he isn't working with Interpol because, ya know, he supposedly has amnesia. He's supposed to at least. Can't really do your job if you don't remember any of the training you went through or anything. Fake IDs also wouldn't necessarily be required as long as Carmelita just kept him home and away from her work after they got back from the island. As long as he was never made to go to somewhere like any police station, he was good.
If you also notice in the previous Sly games the amount of time released between games is the same amount of time for the characters. In Sly 2 in the opening cutscene Sly mentions he defeated Clockwerk 2 years ago. Sly 1 came out in 2002 and Sly 2 came out in 2004. So Sly 3 came out in 2006 and Sly 4 came out in 2013 so that’s 7 years between them. I would say for the beginning Sly and Carmelita didn’t work together but give it enough time and maybe they did and the same for their relationship. Like a real relationship simple then maybe intimate but why they never got married or had children is unknown. Also I know this is about Sly and Carmelita but at the same time the heartache Bentley felt from Penelope could very well be that of a 7 year relationship. Naturally anyone who’s had a long term relationship knows how upsetting it can be when it’s over. But that’s my thoughts on this.
I personally don't think 7 years have passed between 3 and 4. But like you said, 7 years is an ample amount of time for Bentley and Penelope's relationship to hit a stump.
I think that Sly and Carmelita repairing their relationship should be a major subplot for Sly 5 and 6. I imagine that one of the most bittersweet conclusions for the series is that Sly and Carmelita forgive each other for lying, restart their relationship, then go home to Carmelita's apartment. Then after downing the entire bottle of champagne Carmelita has been saving for the moment she "captures" Sly, they make love in her bed. I've always been a fan of romance plots in video games and Sly and Carmelita's is one of my favorites.

It seems to me that Sly and Carmelita just had an intimate relationship. As for being in Interpol, no. I think she used Sly to help her go undercover once or twice, but nothing more. Also, you don't take your police pal to a museum causally, unless you're undercover or dating

I think they were just smashing. Towards the end of Sly 3, Sly decided that he was done with everything and just wanted to live with Carmelita. Sly 4 messed that all up even though I kinda buy it there, but whatever.

2:29 - And that's the main issue with how the 4th game's story starts out; no one knows how long in the Sly Cooper universe it has been since the events of the 3rd game, it could've been 8 years, 4 years, 1 year or even a month and if it was close to a month then the fact that Sly was seeking to come back into thieving was just wrong. :(

Anyway, i dont know why sly didn't tell carmelita that he had to save the thevious raccoonos in the first place? I mean, bentley could have contacted carmalita and said that they need sly to fix the thevious raccoon ous. I would have just told her the truth and that he faked only to get closer to her. Seeing as though see likes him too, that shouldn't be a problem. We already know what happens when Carmalita gets "angry "at sly. Im pretty sure she isn't going to put up with it for much longer.
MISTA Snow Tell a cop that you need to rob a museum in order to save a book and that you've been lying to her about your mental state for over a year or so? Sure it probably would have gone down better, but real people don't think that logically in these kinds of deep lies.
BayLaugh Animations So sneak out of the house, rob a museum(knowing she would be the first on the seen like always) and "atempt" to make things better then? It wouldn't have worked out well ether way but i would ALWAYS tell her the truth, even when it hurts. Even if it did backfire on him, at least he wouldnt need to carry the gilt of lieing.

Yeaah...I see your perspective but the fake amnesia thing kinda exposes a lot of things wrong with Sly and Carmelita's 'relationship.'
When you have to lie and deceive 24/7 to keep a love connection, is it really intimacy or is it just a simulation?
This series keeps trying to use Sly and Carmelita as the main ship yet we don't even SEE or HEAR about her life beyond Interpol and her first job that involved Sly Cooper. We don't even see her inner motivations, personality or desires outside her job and beyond trying to 'lock up' Sly...like what would make her attracted to be with him besides Sly being hot and that they look good together? This is never really fully explained besides her knowing Sly's code of honor of only stealing from criminals and always being there to benefit cleaning up after Sly's messes. We always see this relationship through Sly's eyes thoroughly with motivations and desires but never through the same complexity and depth through Carmelita's eyes and when Sly 4 happened, it seemed like it was trying to sweep the glaring big issues under the rug. The series never really explains or makes its case how and why we should care about Carmelita and Sly being together in the first place and if a story has to break its own logic, lore, and dumb down characters to force something to be there then it shouldn't be there and it's just dragging the whole story down.
And the one thing that drags this whole ship down is that you have one person willingly to sacrifice everything, even his entire identity to be with someone yet the other will not ever do that even when given the opportunity. It really makes you question how equal the love connection is when Sly has a lot more to lose with his hard choice than Carmelita does.
I wish carmelita was done better has a character. I even had a character similar to her but smarter. Is not a damsel in distress. And has a better relationship with the main character. 3 things carmelita fails to do. Its sad wean a fan of sly cooper can make a character better then the sly cooper creators.

My only problem with Carmelita was her redesign with the skirt and how they butchered her moveset and other such minor things. Character wise I liked everything........except all of the ancestors besides Tennessee and Caveman Cooper. All of the other ancestors were butchered from their original trilogy personalities from their movements and designs. Either way I didn't think the game was that bad but their are problems with the designs and how all but 2 of the ancestors are just Sly clones and was a bit of a disappointment.

Ever since finishing 3, I assumed she told everyone how Sly saved her life and lost his memory. I ASSUMED other coppers allowed him to stay.
I beat Sly 3 and saw the ending, and it looked like Sly was married to Carmelita. That is the only reason i can think of that made Bently say "Sly, you sneaky old dog" when he spotted him living with her in her penthouse apartment.

I would love the idea of a super theif helping the police to take down other thevies. I find Sly skills would be a waste if they did not use it. Carmelita could tell Interpol he got Amnesia and they would accept that and use him.

Great video as always! 3 thoughts in regards to the video.
1. I wish that they had done more with Winthorp. There could be some interesting plot lines.
2. If Sly could just wear a tux, and not be recognized by Carmelita (while still wearing his mask and not wearing pants) then there is no problem with the idea of him going unnoticed for 8 years.
3. I always theorized that Carmelita told Sly he was their most valuable undercover agent(He being so respected in the underworld would make him a valuable tool), and used the history of him taking down the Fiendish Five and Klaww Gang to back her up (Carmelita assuming that if Sly remembered something, then her story of him being an agent might still hold together).

The only thing they messed up in this after trilogy is new studio HAD on purpose make Penelope as villain for the sake of "plot". For no good reasons had to do 180 on her.
Perhaps if her personality was changed by Cyrille in the past, then that would make sense.
It's obvious sly had feelings for Carmelita just from all the flirting he did though Carmelita would never openly admit that she had feelings for sly, at least not directly but implied. Likely sly "faked" having amnesia so he could finally see what a relationship would be with Carmelita since he decided to stop playing games with her. Carmelita was happy with sly but may have secretly thought that Sly wasn't going to change from the cutscenes where sly seemed "tempted" to go back to his old ways.
Interpol may not have recognized Sly without his outfit or perhaps Carmelita didn't inform Interpol about what happened to Sly and had a secret relationship with Sly.

I strongly disagree with other people. I don't think Carmalita was watered down at all in the 4th game. Matter a fact the things i didn't like about her character in 4 is that 1. she was underused with missions and the final boss 2. Some of her basic moves in previous games are unlockables behind a paywall 3. You don't have the option to wear her other outfit (though ultimate Carmalita is pretty badass looking) and 4. She no longer has her kick or can shoot while jumping
About point 3, I wonder if customization will be a thing in Sly 5 :)

I think sly worked with Carmelita as a sort of CI or something like that or a private investigator so he could work with her and not be directly in interpols eyes.
Actually part of the joke is sly is unrecognizable without his mask, which is real funny all things considered.

As for the wedding, I think it will happen at the end of Sly 5, Murray being the best man and Bentley officiating the wedding.

I always knew by the end of Sly 3 that he was faking it. But I've been thinking if Sly has been working as an private investigator instead of working with/for the Interpol during his fake amnesia sequence. He has the skills and abilities to do so in a nutshell. It always bothered me that the other cops or no one was not able to recognize Sly just by wearing different clothes. But in the end, that same thing happen in Sly 2 during the Clockwerck wings heist.
Über Kirbeeh weren't there like 3 incidents in sly 3 where (rather stupidly) sly managed to fool guards and even don Octavia and General Tsao just by changing clothes?

I always figured that Sly was a consultant partnered with Carmelita since he'd be quite knowledgeable about certain crimes and how criminal minds operate (I know he's pretending to be an amnesiac but remember those psychoanalytical philosophical bits he said to his enemies right before they fight? Notwithstanding Dimitri, of course), making him function like a Shinichi Kudo from Detective Conan or a Lucifer Morningstar from Netflix's Luficer.
You don't necessarily have to be apart of the police to be a consultant for an officer. Plus, Sly assisting the police could have gained him some form of immunity. That's just my theory anyway. 🤷♀️

I agree that Sly was just relaxing himself while Carmelita did her job, he never had the idea to work on the good side of the law that messes with his family legacy on the bad, it is never mentioned by his voice in the animated cutscenes or actual gameplay.
So yeah, Sly never worked for Interpol while he faked Amnesia to be with Inspector Fox.

Theres a fan game in the making called "Cooper Court of Thieves" were we play as the kid of the 2: Cooper Fox. Being on both sides on the law just like his parents
There's def chem between these two. While they are on the opposite sides of the law, I believe they have an important thing in common; Their priorities, which go like this:
1. Their jobs (If you can call "thieving" a job...).
2. Each other.
3. Then their own lives (Well, Sly would probs put his friends life above his but anyway).
They would both do anything for each other, except openly and/or directly having to back out from their duty. Carmelita could shot and arrest Sly if need be, but I think she would only do this because she knows that he'd be fine. He has the skills and the contacts to help him escape, hell, she could actually secretely help the escape. Same thing for Sly. I doubt he'd back out of an important job like somone messing with the thievius racoonus, but he'd have on his mind how to help Carmelita when the job's done. This is a very interesting dynamic that could easily be one strong point for a movie or a TV show ;)
She said her name was a hand-me-down name from the side of the family that long ago came over here on a boat from somewhere in Spain she sounded to me just a little bit strange I guess but I have to admit it, "it felt good on my lips."

On the video: I like your ideas. I like the idea of Carmelita lying to herself, and actually dealing with the complex relationship they have, and making Winthorpe (or someone else jealous of Carmelita, specifically) the villain or connected to the villain would have been a cool twist.
I do reject the implication that any of it was going on in Sly 4, though. Sly 4 was just badly written, and no amount of fan speculation (no matter how good it is) will change that.
Personally, I like the idea of Sly and Carmelita becoming partners-in-law. It would have given Sly an opportunity to still do gameplay-type stuff even before he (inevitably) gets pulled back into crime, and would just be nicely symmetric with both Bentley/Penelope and the old Cooper Gang.
And of course there would be some tensions: it's a relationship predicated on one member faking amnesia, and the other retconning their partner's life history. It's a situation that would be ripe for drama (though as long as there was no Sly 3 sequel, it could just be glossed over in the happily-ever-after). Doing that drama well, while working in another game's worth of content, and (especially) without demeaning either character, their relationship, or ruining any chance of them getting a happy ending together, would be a really hard writing problem, but could also be so satisfying if it was pulled of well.
Which is really one of the things I hate most about Sly 4. They took this really difficult writing problem that Sucker Punch left them, and decided to solve it by having Sly go "welp, I'm bored. Thief time!", completely trivializing three games worth of character development.
I'll say this if sly and carmelita ARE working together then these two could or would be a good partners OR sly could maybe be an agent and carmelita would still be a cop and would be working together JUST maybe

Maybe Le Paradox had contact with Doctor M, when Doctor M was so close to the vault, if we supppose that they were together because both want to get rid of the Cooper or humiliate them, Doctor M told to Le Paradox that the cane was the key to the vault and all the Cooper's secret. When Doctor M failed, Le Paradox maybe said to himself that the cane was everything for the Coopers. So with no cane, theres no thieves, no hiests, no vault, and probably no Coopers, or at least no thief legacy.
So M being alive, I wouldn't be surprised at all, unless this happened way before Sly 3 which I doubt.

I think Sly was a consultant for Interpol under the jurisdiction of Carmelita Fox as well as in a romantic relationship with Carmelita Fox. It make sense that he is not officially affiliated with Interpol, but still be her partner working on cases kind of like the tv show Bones where Temperance or Bones is directly affiliated with the Jeffersonian, but consults for Booth, who is an FBI agent.

And to do that Sly had to fake amnesia and I'm sure Carmelita had to testify on his behalf, and even then it all worked out in Sly 4 thieves in time; that is until he got sent to Egypt and the gang is looking for him
