This one hits extra special. I grew up spending half my time traveling from Maryland up to Hasbrouck Heights to visit my grandparents, and we'd know we were close when we saw this very same White Castle, as well as KFC and the now abandoned Mt Fuji steakhouse coming up highway 17. On many occasions before heading back home, we'd pick up a platter of sliders from this White Castle to enjoy together. Believe me, I for one get it when you describe the sliders...they aint good but they good somehow, if you know you know 😂 Thank you for the nostalgia hit!
Our white Castle here in my state doesn’t have onion rings, but they have onion petals and they are so good. I think you probably like those better. They’re just like little onion, petal chips. I totally hear you on the nostalgia though I can’t explain it either explaining a burger is having a soggy bun doesn’t sound appetizing, but it’s freaking delicious.
The reason White Castles gave to the reason why they have not branched out was due to their distance from their processing plants that provide their beef. White castles was also known for being clean in their original days as their theme. Everything was chrome and white to show cleanliness. When I lived in near one, they were known for cheap food. It was before the slider craze. We didnt call them sliders, we called sliders white castles.
I grew up right around the corner from their headquarters in Columbus, Ohio. Grew up eating White Castle (classic cheeseburger, bacon cheeseburger just hit whenever you need it). My tastes are much more refined these days, but I have never gone to White Castle and it not been right on point. It isn’t top tier by any means, but with so much disappointment from other restaurants, when I’m on my way home from the airport after a late flight, White Castle just hits different.

I’ll take White Castle cheeseburgers over any burger, maybe some of it is nostalgia but tbh even as a kid they were my favorite. There’s a taste I can’t explain with the onions, pickles, cheese, buns etc. It’s so simple but so effective. If you’ve had Krystal before it’s supposed to be similar but nothing like White Castle, so idk what secret White Castle has that makes them so good
