Good job but I would recommend you should cover the underground drainage pipe with landscaper's fabric. It's cheap and keeps dirt from clogging the holes in the pipe and eventually the pipe will get clogged and you'll have to dig it back up and do the job over again.
I really appreciate how Andrew goes above and beyond for the client...👍 He just needed to put in the culvert, but completely regraded his driveway and leveled out and graded the whole yard!💯🏆🥇

Now, I haven't read through all 638 comments, and I"m not going to, but I take it from what little I've read that Dig Safe isn't a thing in New York State. I've seen you dig before, Andrew, without any Dig Safe markings. Man, in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts there is no way you'd dig across an electric service without Dig Safe having marked that out first, or any other services for that matter. And I realize they get it wrong half the time. In the Commonwealth, it's a requirement of the law. I give you credit, dude. You got guts. I love these videos.
Andrew, The next thing you need is a utility locator wand. Then you can search the area for utilities yourself, mark them out, and avoid them/dig around them.

With the connections you have, maybe a expansion into lumber garages or grounds maintenance. A bigger tractor or lift the box blade.. to do it or not to do it bigger machines cost more to maintain but then they are faster. Stay with what you have and know the limits or go bigger and break more. As maintenance goes, a set of door pins in dump truck wouldn't hurt, do that on the second saturday this week... that never comes. You have grown exponentially to a force to try an outbid from other contractors. Your busy for a reason, plus your "inspector" has been giving you passes when he might of been more critical (more whip cream dad on my biscuits) What a fabulous companion
Ever notice that in nearly all of these "man-project" videos, it's a guy and his dog not a guy and his girlfriend/wife! I got rid of the wife many years ago (actually she got rid of me, thank God), but will NEVER get rid of or be without the dog!

Great video as aways keep it up. For similar work I typically use the 4" perforated black drain tile with sock on it. It holds up well and is easy to install. Like others mentioned if you have long runs put a clean out in or a catch basin if practical. I know alot have mentioned digrite 811, where I live it's the law and my insurance won't pay if I don't have a valid completed work order. I fill the requests out on line and typically in 24 to 48 hrs they are complete. In an emergency they have a on call team that marks 24hr a day for like water mains and sewer breaks. I installed an electric brake controller in my dump truck. Pretty straight forward install. I have the time delay style Reese brand works good.
I am recognizing this project from other videos and the place is looking pretty good compared to when you first started. It will be awesome when you finish. Thanks!

I just watch your videos because they're fascinating and it's amazing to see someone working so hard and the quality of the videos are perfect. But I think it really speaks to your character that you had been doing something (holes down) for so long and when the majority of people commenting said the opposite, that you took the advice and learnt from it and handled it perfectly. So many people would have been stubborn and stuck to their guns and tried to justify their way. You are a true gent and it's a pleasure to see you work. Also I hope you get the chance to take some time off and look after yourself, doing all this work and maintaining a business and a TH-cam channel with all the editing must be incredibly time consuming. Make sure you're looking after yourself. All the best.
Hey Andrew here's a tip that will help you out. Weld a piece of flat bar on the back of your box blade on the top and mount a ball on it. Works great to moving trailers around and not having to drop the box blade off if it's not too heavy of a trailer. Just make sure your tractor way more versatile.

Make sure those dig tickets are clear and that everything is marked. It could cost you a lot of money and is such a safety factor when dealing with power and/or gas. The phone call costs no money to you or the property owner. It's just not worth it my friend not to call. For everyone else reading this, please do the same, even if putting up a mailbox or fence or whatever. If you cut a utility line and you haven't called 811 YOU are responsible for damages,
At least it's not a national communication cable, but there is no price for your life. "Should be 18 inches down" have been the last words of quite a few contractors. It takes about 3 minutes to locate that power line, and an additional 2 to locate the communications. I'm not gonna tell anyone what to do, but I would seriously at least invest in a locate set. Then you know for sure, for sure, exactly where the utilities are and you are not guessing.

There is no charge, and they come out for all utilities marking within 24 hours. The utility companies pay for the service. I figured out why you said the girls in your area are all crazy. Nice work with your box blade! I wish mine had a flip up rail for the scarifiers. Much easier than pulling all the pins to raise or lower them individually.

The reason the holes are down is so the water in the trench doesn't have to reach the top of the pipe before it starts draining....Love the vids keep them coming,,,, Your getting better at the vids each time you make one
It's also better to not put much gravel under pipe because same reason. Water collects in trench you have like 4" gravel under pipe so there needs to be 4" water before it reaches those holes and start drain away.

Typical 80's ford truck doors, have had the pleasure myself. Keep an eye out for some replacement door hinges, those are about gone and/or the hinge mounting points are hogged out. You can fix that window crank by replacing the plastic knob with a roller bearing, hard part is finding the right size bearing and suitable mounting hardware. Hockey or gaffer tape wrapped on the roller bearing makes it less slippery.
I think you'd do well with a Rockhound attatchment for the skid steer. They do a great job collecting all the rocks and debris and leave nice flat fluffy loam that you almost don't have to rake and any loam raking needed is minimal. I've used it many times. Makes anyone look like a rock star.
Water is lazy and looks for the easy path, holes down give it the easy path without having to get up to the mid/top of the pipe. Yes the rock handles a good amount of the water but when surface water and ground water start up the pipe quickly handles the overflow. One thing you might want to do on future projects is the up hill side end with a surface clean out by putting in a 90 rather then a cap. This makes snaking or flushing the line easier when it gets silted up. In the current form you would need to work from the down hill side to clean it out so are standing/kneeling in the water/muck you are cleaning out of the pipe.
Ya, pipe holes down limits the crap percolating down through the stone from above into holes, if facing up, and filling the pipe with crud over long period; water percs down to bottom of trench and then when it rises into the pipe through the holes on the bottom, its not carrying the crud, and it flows down the pipe as Andrew H describes.
Solid point! Pipes need maintenance to keep functioning over time. Always install catch basin at uphill end & every 50-75' or so to provide cleanout access. You could stretch to 100' but shorter runs are easier to snake ;-)
Holes down is the way to go. Another problem with holes up is the pipe can't drain the water covering the pipe below the holes. You could have 4 inches of water around the pipe that can't drain because the holes are on top. But as usual, another great vid. Thanks Andrew.
Greetings from Sweden! Thx for all uploads, i really like your videos and your enthusiasm. I drive excavators everyday on construction-sites and id like to share some tips. Always use fabric to prevent the pipe from clogging up, and always use washed stones when covering drainage pipes. An L-shaped pipe at the high spot with a lid for inspection and ability to flush the pipe if needed can also be good. Don´t get me wrong, not trying to bully, just helping...
Is the trench deep enough? I'm worrying about how the pipe will deal with cars and tractors over time. And yes these pipes are likely to clog up easier without fabric.
@@RayCathode100 Well i would never put any kind of pipe that shallow, and remember its a drainage pipe which u use for groundwater. Id put those a lot deeper. Looks like the outlets from the roofs are a big issue here , infiltrating the parking area every time its raining. I would have used an open v trench and connected those 2 outlets from house to it, that way the water from the hard parking surface have some where to go as well. The water you noticed from his trench is not likely groundwater, its rainwater infiltrating that spot cuz the ground is to hard to let the water pass thru.
I'm not an expert with pipe laying but I used to do it for a company, doing sewer with SDR 35, and drainage with ADS perforated and non perforated and water main; and in my experience with doing that work you usually put the perforated pipe up, only because you're not trying to catch the water in the ground itself (which would make the ground all squishy and a mess), you're trying to move the water that hits the ground and stays, which leaves all the puddles everywhere

Hi Andrew, I enjoy your videos, but you should invest in a cable locator with a signal inducer (cat and jenney) or similar, around cables you need a banks man, and utilities drawings. In the UK you could be prosecuted by HSE for not doing so, Electric Cables will Kill.

I have a 3pt hitch that has a 2" receiver on it. It works well for moving trailers.

I get that, but what if the height of the holes is an acceptable water level?
it would work just not as effectively as holes down. It also helps stop the pipe from getting filled with sediment.

Keep an eye out for some replacement door hinges, those are about gone and/or the hinge mounting points are hogged out.
You can fix that window crank by replacing the plastic knob with a roller bearing, hard part is finding the right size bearing and suitable mounting hardware.
Hockey or gaffer tape wrapped on the roller bearing makes it less slippery.

I think you'd do well with a Rockhound attatchment for the skid steer. They do a great job collecting all the rocks and debris and leave nice flat fluffy loam that you almost don't have to rake and any loam raking needed is minimal.
I've used it many times. Makes anyone look like a rock star.

Water is lazy and looks for the easy path, holes down give it the easy path without having to get up to the mid/top of the pipe. Yes the rock handles a good amount of the water but when surface water and ground water start up the pipe quickly handles the overflow.
One thing you might want to do on future projects is the up hill side end with a surface clean out by putting in a 90 rather then a cap. This makes snaking or flushing the line easier when it gets silted up. In the current form you would need to work from the down hill side to clean it out so are standing/kneeling in the water/muck you are cleaning out of the pipe.

Ya, pipe holes down limits the crap percolating down through the stone from above into holes, if facing up, and filling the pipe with crud over long period; water percs down to bottom of trench and then when it rises into the pipe through the holes on the bottom, its not carrying the crud, and it flows down the pipe as Andrew H describes.
Solid point! Pipes need maintenance to keep functioning over time. Always install catch basin at uphill end & every 50-75' or so to provide cleanout access. You could stretch to 100' but shorter runs are easier to snake ;-)
Why not install a 4in. agricultural draining pipe , it's got holes all around, never gets clogged and water can enter easy from any angle??
Holes down is the way to go. Another problem with holes up is the pipe can't drain the water covering the pipe below the holes. You could have 4 inches of water around the pipe that can't drain because the holes are on top. But as usual, another great vid. Thanks Andrew.
great job man.. another tip would be to use geotex fabric NON-woven to help keep the gravel clean from dirt and mud and have long lasting drain.

Greetings from Sweden! Thx for all uploads, i really like your videos and your enthusiasm. I drive excavators everyday on construction-sites and id like to share some tips. Always use fabric to prevent the pipe from clogging up, and always use washed stones when covering drainage pipes. An L-shaped pipe at the high spot with a lid for inspection and ability to flush the pipe if needed can also be good. Don´t get me wrong, not trying to bully, just helping...
They don’t seem to have cloth or fabric like that in US......bra tips!
Is the trench deep enough? I'm worrying about how the pipe will deal with cars and tractors over time. And yes these pipes are likely to clog up easier without fabric.
@@RayCathode100 Well i would never put any kind of pipe that shallow, and remember its a drainage pipe which u use for groundwater. Id put those a lot deeper. Looks like the outlets from the roofs are a big issue here , infiltrating the parking area every time its raining. I would have used an open v trench and connected those 2 outlets from house to it, that way the water from the hard parking surface have some where to go as well. The water you noticed from his trench is not likely groundwater, its rainwater infiltrating that spot cuz the ground is to hard to let the water pass thru.

I'm not an expert with pipe laying but I used to do it for a company, doing sewer with SDR 35, and drainage with ADS perforated and non perforated and water main; and in my experience with doing that work you usually put the perforated pipe up, only because you're not trying to catch the water in the ground itself (which would make the ground all squishy and a mess), you're trying to move the water that hits the ground and stays, which leaves all the puddles everywhere

Hi Andrew, I enjoy your videos, but you should invest in a cable locator with a signal inducer (cat and jenney) or similar, around cables you need a banks man, and utilities drawings.
In the UK you could be prosecuted by HSE for not doing so, Electric Cables will Kill.
Do they not have 811 Call Before you dig in New York State? I use it on every dig.
