We need safe standing in parts of english stadiums that sing the most. Also, though this won't happen, introducing an ultras scene in the prem would greatly improve the atmosphere. I'm a City fan and it's sooo frustrating to see the lack of atmosphere at the Etihad compared to Maine Road. I would love to see both of the suggestions.

Similar thing at the Etihad. The South Stand is the singing section and the atmosphere there is good, everywhere else has a fewer people singing and sounds dead.
Maybe you could improve it and play attacking against Chelsea and Liverpool who we play at home soon

The tourist fans are a blessing and a curse people who have a go at United having global fans need to realise that those fans give United the financial muscle they have but they do take away from the atmosphere. I’ve followed United since I was 6 (now 30) and been to Old Trafford loads of time but I’m From Portsmouth (cue some original idiot making a not from Manchester joke) and go with my dad every week to Fratton Park and it’s amazing 18,500 can be so much louder then 75,000

EVERYTHING Mourinho says is for a reason. The guy is a master, he keeps mentioning Mctominay's desire to recover the ball and as quickly as possible with such purpose as a direct reference to Pogba's problem vs totenham. He didn't try to recover the ball at all. Mourinho is a class apart.

Mate, OT has been dead for a while now. Sure, they sang "We'll never die" today, but there's no energy during the game. The stadium almost cleared out waay before full-time. It's disgraceful honestly IMO.

I remember going to Watch Liverpool with Havant 10 years ago and saw 100’s off Liverpool fans traveling up which is funny as I thought only United had fans who traveled.

I dont want to be mean but if you look how much effort put the club in supporting the market all over the world (afrika, america, asia) and foreign fans there is no wonder that the atmosphere is not as good as it used to be. These people are tourists, they dont know a single chant but they will spend 500 pounds in the megastore. And that is what club cares about. The profit. I am from Slovakia but when I am going to the match I dont make 100 pictures and sit quiet. I stand (if it is possible) and fucking sing! It is the best feeling to sing together with the crowd. And there is many people like me in Czech and Slovakia. But unfortunately we dont spend a single penny in megastore because it is fucking expensive. I rather buy a vintage Charlton jersey from local store. And it is the same with the locals. They dont go to the stadium tour, they dont buy shit in the megastore so the club dont care about them. This is the tax for being one of the biggest clubs in the world with fans all over the world. Club needs to start to care more about real fans. That is the only solution.

To anyone of the fans saying the bad atmosphere is because of the football playing style, when did this apply to teams like Marseille, St Etienne, Boca Juniors, Roma, Feyenoord, Benfica? I'm pretty sure none of these teams respective fans don't shout for their team because of the way the team plays. They shout for their team, because they LOVE their team.
The hierarchy at OT are deliberately focused on profits, which is to the detriment of OT atmosphere. They direct the stewards to tell supporters to quiet down, jack up the ticket prices so that locals can't afford, so that only mild-mannered middle-upper class and a handful of foreign tourists can spend a day at a match. Punish away match going fans who have legitimate excuses for not attending certain matches (e.g. Zayaan and Omaar story video), ignore communication with fans who are trying to actively resolve the atmosphere problem (e.g. J Stand group), playing music at the wrong moments of a match (esp build-up) which drown out supporters noise, having no policy on family/friends being placed together.
As a last point, addressed to the MUFC hierarchy, if you are so profit-driven, why haven't you realised it's in your best financial interest to improve the stadium atmosphere? Better atmosphere=better support for players, better support for players=better performance, better performance=more wins, more wins=more money. They have to be far more open minded, and since MUFC's marketing team is so revered, why don't you put some marketing efforts into the fans. Engage with the match-day going fans more, instead of focusing on this "No 7 at Old Trafford Experience", scrap the call-in show on MUTV, concentrate on fan produced content like FTD, get involved with them to collaborate with regular match-day going fans.

Atmosphere would be much better if you could find somewhere to get a proper drink for a decent price. There’s one proper pub immediately near the stadium, and another one that’s basically just a corridor which is always absolutely sardine-packed and only serves a few beers, and the beer in the stadium itself is like £5 for a bottle. People come out of their shell if they drink, and they’ll meet other supporters to sing with in the pubs. Open a fucking spoons or something, for God’s sake.
Start playing good football and watch the atmosphere improve.

I am from Bulgaria. Went to OT only once. Before the trip spend some time learning the chants ... you can imagine my disappointment once i entered the stadium and got surounded by lazy ass tourist... yes i am not english but i love the club since i was 5 years old and been from the balkans and i am used to sing and cheer during the entire game ... Been surounded with lazy and boring people taking pictures with their phones and chatting in facebook totally kills any enthusiasum.
The way to improve the atmosphere is to create a singing section (thats what work for us). We got special sector for singing and standing fans. Once they are at one place all give their hearts out. (The rest of the stadium can follow the chants easyer).
I totally Agree united home Atmosphere is one off the worst not if the worst, seriously start orgnizing somethings on tv u here the away team more whole 90 m which is a discrace for a stadium like ours Theater of Dreams

People might call ultras cringy but that's the way forward for atmosphere, look at Saint Étienne when we played them, both sides of the stadium were bouncing.

Master 3D - I think most of the big posh teams in the world attract too many tourists with iPhones and iPads only interested in filming themselves being at the games. I lived in Barcelona for 2 years and they have a problem with this as well... it's not unique to United or the premier league.
On the grand scheme of things it's hardly a big deal, but the atmosphere is obviously never going to be that great with a bunch of American or Asian tourists with their wives or girlfriends or kids at the game sitting in silence. If you want a good atmosphere, you need to go to ground with loads of local passionate fans - eg. Celtic Park (very famous for atmosphere), Fratton Park etc.

Yo, it's SO true, glad Jose called it out. The atmosphere at Old Trafford has been horrible. And it embarrasses me as a fan, cause I see the home fans at other English clubs, big and small, they have much lesser crowd sizes than OT and still create a super hype atmosphere for the home teams. And I know Jose really counts on strong home support a lot, as he should. We gotta sort this out. Again, it's embarrassing.
P.S. Back in like 2014 (I think) we were voted as the loudest home fans in England. So weird it's nowhere close to that anymore.

Until football in this country goes back to its working class roots which is about the local community instead of these tourist theatres you can forget about it. Football in England is a world wide tv show business which is not what football is about. The fan culture has gone.
What can we do to keep some of the roots intact?
Not really a question of what we can do apart from voice are opinions as we have done for years but it's more about the governing body helping (which lets be honest is like talking to a brick wall). Starting off by lowing ticket prices and trying to get young fans through the gates, stopping the unnecessary regulations that go with football today. The problem with it in this country is the culture has been sucked out which is going to football on a Saturday with your mates to have a laugh, football is a social activity (at least it is for me). Its been replaced with this event that is a world wide tv show. Sad reality is majority of united fans will treasure the few times they go and watch football at old trafford, it's their day out instead of their usual slice of football in front of the tv.
though im an indian but i have been following man united on a very serious note since past 10 yrs and full time devils when it was a baby and i have been listening to the fans from uk ( the old ones + red army members ) and the ticket price is one big issue that has comeup a lot ...one very simple thing is a stand needs to be there for the working class ( not like a stratford end but a small part / like a balcony ) where there are no seats to sit but there is plenty of space to stand and sing , cheer and boo ur opponents ...these stands should be cheap and well regulated.... i get the point about tourists and that can be sorted out by making a seperate compartment for the outcomers who come to enjoy a match and rest of the regulars can sit together and blow off the roof.... one of the big reasons why united start slow in matches is because our fans dnt cheer ...there are times when we are very good but most of the time its dull ...i hope things get better...

There are fewer working class communities in the UK and fewer working class members generally on the UK than there were 40-50 years ago, fewer factory jobs and so on. The football tourism is a problem definitely, but the families that supported United have changed, loads have moved out of Salford, Stretford etc, you can’t just tell them to fuck off because they’re not living in council houses anymore.
I'm not telling them to fuck off, i was trying to highlight how the local supporters the ones the club actually represents are put aside now. Not necessarily working class but the people of Manchester.
Jose...there is nothing to get excited about...you love controlled, boring beautiful. The fans know this and come in with low expectations. Ironically only a goal from the opposition will cause ripples of excitement..then we are obliged to attack { a little bit more}. Thing is with everything thats gone on with the Glazers combined with the way the club treats the supporters at times has meant that a certain percentage of the more vocal fans have stopped going to matches o frequently and has therefore the atmosphere has taken a large hit (I know first hand as there used to be myself and 10 others who all had season tickets and now not one of us does).
