  • In this episode we go over the long history of Everquest Verant, SoE, Daybreak and Darkpaw Games being incompetent in how they manage the great game of Everquest by allowing broken mechanics, corruption, hacks and massive plat dupes to plague the game to this day.

    Great video dude! When I played on Agnarr with ya'll I had no idea about all these cheats. It wasn't until the end of classic that I found out about them. This knowledge instantly made me question if I wanted to keep playing. I think that the main contributing idea that kept me playing was that as you said we were benefitting from it and I was having a great time dominating PvE that I just accepted it.

    So a few thoughts.
    1. I dont think I've ever heard so many things said from Zaide that other guys running top tier guilds would agree with as much as I heard in this episode. His characterization of "well we assume they do it, so we have to" is so unbelievably prevalent. I firmly believe every super top tier guild leader who runs a fairly clean ship (by comparison to say box armies) wants cheating gone. Nothing is fun about dealing with 9 guys with 14 toons each threatening your raid targets at all hours of the night because they have to coordinate a handful and you have to coordinate 50+.
    2. I would have liked to hear more about these Devs playing inside guilds to give favors to their guild because that's some history I'm fairly unfamiliar with. I know it is rampant on p99 but wasn't aware of it being so on TLPs.
    3. Zaide, hope you're back for the 25th. Oakwynd is dead from a legitimate top tier guild perspective and we would all love the competition.

    It's crazy how mandatory it is to use SEQ on TLPs. Aradune was my first TLP and I had never used SEQ or anything before. Got to the point where I was competing for the Swamp of No Hope ground spawn for my VP key. Every x minutes literally everyone else would get up and run in the same direction cause they all saw the spawn pop on SEQ map. There was positively no chance for me to ever finish my key in a reasonable amount of time without getting SEQ to compete on the same level.

      And then when you use SEQ it really opens your eyes to the MQ/teleports/taunting that runs rampant

    Didn't even mention the aa xp issues with legacy XP and the messy implementation of FTE where every issue was telegraphed and foretold on the forums. It's pure incompetence and I wholeheartedly agree with everything said in this video

    Back from a multiple year hiatus. Played on the first TLPs...
    What the fuck is happening with this community? Breaks my nostalgia's heart to see how much it's degraded.
    1999 - EQ Trader's Corner & Online Guides in general are cheating.
    2024 - You don't use cheats? Well, get rekt.
    Really trying to enjoy Teek, but this game is nearly unrecognizable.

    I can't believe this is coming from a Guild Leader that mass invites, knows who his cheater's are and has made his claim from these people. But no, it's Daybreak's fault, even though he knows all of the cheats involved. What a douche.

  • @michaelpants
    @michaelpants 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    It's bare minimum maintenance for a legacy game to enforce anti-cheat. To charge one person 17.99 USD for an in-game currency that another person can just snatch with cheats is unconscionable. It can't be that THIS is how the game must find its revenue. At the expense of all the suckers that truly love the game. Maybe a new page can be turned, and old players return for a more honest EQ experience.

  • @Merknilash

    I never did anything on live
    I used SEQ on Aradune to do the Quillmane camp
    When you use SEQ you’re able to see how many other people are using SEQ because they beeline to things they’d never be able to see
    Almost all ‘serious’ players are using it.
    If you’re just playing to enjoy some classic content, do your thing, but if you ever want to try to camp something you’re at a severe disadvantage if you aren’t doing it

    Tbh you have to be touched in some way to be playing EQ in 2023. I agree the game is special and there's nothing else like it, but who would honestly put up with all this after so many years?

  • @charlespierpont
    @charlespierpont 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I don't know what the resources are for Darkpaw/EQ, but one would think over all these years there has been multiple cost/benefit analyses by SOE/Daybreak/Darkpaw etc on policing bad behavior. What made me think about it was the reference around 13mins to the information dumped into the discord then used to cross-reference and then check in-game to see if people are displaying cheating-behavior - that would likely be a significant amount of resources dedicated to that. Imagine you do that for every account across every server. Or should it only be done on TLP? Or should it only be done on TLP at launch and at each expansion launch?
    I am with you I would 100% prefer it not even be an aspect of the game. But I can understand why they may not have the resources to dedicate to that, or pull people off of other projects to dedicate to policing. That said - it seems the TLP launches and expansion unlocks come with such a large degree of time/energy/money spent in people planning days off work and schedules around it that you would think that would make a lot of sense to offer some type of consistent enforcement.
    Per my comment on the Jain video, I remember playing with nothing at all when raiding on Fippy. And I remember coming back years later on Ragefire and feeling like I wouldn't really be able to play without it. I knew my hours would be too inconsistent to dedicate to a group, so I had my group that I would go to uncontested zones maybe a few days or week behind folks or be in another instance and be getting my self leveled up - some coth bots - a box cleric, etc. in order to help the guild in a way that I could. That's 6 more monthly subscriptions for the company so that I could essentially have mercenaries to still be a part of the upper end game. When it came time to raid I would shut all of that down because I never wanted to even remotely risk anything, and I never used anything like the warping/zoning etc. I only ever set up my box group on uncontested camps and would try and help folks on the server when I could. I don't suggest that makes it right, but I also probably wouldn't have even played the game without being able to play like that. I was just at a time in my life where "X level Warrior LFG" spamming was just not going to happen.
    Trying to provide another perspective. I was right in there on Fippy/RF with the SK battles, and people warping, and not one person liked socking a 12 hour window for MQ2+ping to win the day. That just wasn't fun at all. I also think while some of the decisions on the TLP servers back then were pretty bizarre with how they were managed - I have no clue about who was even leading that on the SOE/Daybreak side and if they had any type of conflict resolution training whatsoever. I do think a lot of those folks try hard to make the best possible experience for as many people as they can - but those of us out for that 1999+ nostalgia can be ruthless in our critiques - myself included - I remember being livid after /ran 1000 decided whether the last 6 hours had been wasted or not.
    Anyways - just throwing out more discussion. Love these thanks for continuing the content. Really really hoping they find a sweet spot for the 25th anniversary server that gets a really big population. The game is just so fun when lots of individual participation is going on to make that big EQ community we all remember.

    @ZaideGod you may find this hard to believe but I know the father of a man who was in on the original 1999/2000 plat dupe, the mans' son dropped out of college to make a server farm in his dorm to sell plat when it was first discovered, and ended up selling the secret of the dupe to a company in California to make him six figures.

  • @mntking22

    The company doesn't care if people cheat, because cheaters either pay subs or farm krono and people have to buy those krono to trade to farmers. It's their literal profit model.

    I recently discovered EQ and the ability to multbox through MQ. Initially I had planned to multibox and macro on live because *every* video I watched talked about this like it was the natural thing to do.
    However just yesterday I discovered that automation was against the rules. So I opted to do it on emulated servers instead and I've been having a lot of fun with it.

    While I agree with your descriptive analysis, I do not think it will matter if the Oakwynd heirloom/lockout rules become the norm. If guilds are cheating to dominate open world content, a guild can simply employ clones and instances to raid as much as they want unaffected by such drama. They just need to deal with the question of how to design DKP systems to encompass clones and how small a force they want to do the instance with. Oakwynd open world content has pretty much been ceded to one guild that warps to establish FTE with impunity, but once PoP launches who care about the open world content when you can be farming Time almost every day with a primary toon and 2 clones.

    • @FacelessZaide
      @FacelessZaide  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah dude if a guild is cheating other guilds can just put in 7x the work and reach loot parity lmao, okay. Oakwynd already exists and cheating is a massive problem there. It’s not even about random open world mobs as much as it is about server firsts.

    • @sunareekaewnat8967
      @sunareekaewnat8967 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@FacelessZaide That is an exaggeration. Will it be annoying to AA 2 clones as well as a primary toon? Yes, but post Luclin this is really insignificant. As for server firsts, it is not important to everyone and a guild should be happy if it is at the top of its own game and is able to accomplish its own goals without the interference of others. If Mabbu and his fanboys revel in the fact that they can achieve server first by buying keys, it does not detract from my satisfaction of being in Sleepers the first day with 36 keys or having 100 folks keyed for VT over 2 clears by day 5. Instances created a situation where you need to worry less about open world competition. With the Oakwynd rule set you worry FAR less about competition with anyone but yourself and your ability to clear instances with the fewest number of toons as possible. This is what Dima/Satoshi and I always pushed for.

      @@FacelessZaide Citizen never cheated to compete. On Fippy, we saw Twisted Legion fall apart because of our 72 hour poopsock of the Vule room key mob after DoDh launch. And while Echoes of Elysium gave us a worthy challenge in Seeds though House, they took their heavily scripted and MQd ball and went home when we used the science of the “Dying Blow” AA to take a definitive lead in keying for HoT. In era kills of OMM with 25, clears of Time and Sara with 30 were some of my most satisfying experiences. I would note that our “science “ led to developers changing the game mechanics, not suspending us. The only large suspension we ever had was the morons who against Dima and my advice sought to take advantage of the Defiant Bug.
