The hook pivots, on old Triang rolling stock, do tend to stick in the up position, if not occasionally cleaned and lubricated. Series 3 points seem to be designed around the Triang 0-6-0 chassis being the shortest expected pickup wheel base, hence the issues with 0-4-0 locos. If you put a small magnet into the end of a pen body or inside a 4 to 5 inch plastic tube, you can use it to magnetically lift the coupling hooks on Mk.II and Mk.III couplings, when held over the couplings.
Thanks for that Andy! The problems in the top siding are due to having a thin plastic strip set between the rails as an uncoupling ramp and it's a bit too high. The other coupling issues are because all my couplings would benefit from a clean up and lube, so I was quite pleased that they worked as well as they did :) Ditto the 0-4-0s The magnet in a tube is a great idea - thanks for that too!
your layout is like mine and Meany others that people wont own up to ha ha . my trains seem to run a lot like yours with a mind of there own thank you for sharing john

Thanks for watching and commenting. I think I need to work on my driving and signalling :)
