There's really not much of a difference between underrated and unappreciated. "Underrated" is like, a different word that has a same meaning of "unappreciated". Yu Yu Hakusho ain't underrated. It's a downright legendary classic. It's just so old that newer fans of anime are disconnected from knowing about it (though they do have a gateway to it through HunterxHunter)

Dan Grant I don't know... I did enjoy watching it. The animation is really good and I enjoy the voice acting along with the OP/ED. Definitaly check the manga for full story but the anime has its good moments.

Same. The major flaw of the show though was that it was too short. There was way too much information and plot they wanted to be told for a 12 episode series. The show needed at least 22-26 episodes.
First season of Bleach is practically ripped out of the anime Yu Yu Hakusho. Only difference is Yu Yu Hakusho actually has a good action scene even for its age.
+Runs WithWeasels Yu Yu Hakusho had a surprising amount of character depth especially since one third or more of the anime was set in tournament format, plus they never let the comedy drop even when it was at it's most serious kind of like one piece in that regard.

Deadman wonderland was pretty propular 4 years ago when it came out. If it ever got a second season it would of probably got more attention. And Elfen Lied? Really that is a classic. I don't know anybody who hasn't seen it.

Alot of reviews gave it under a 5/10 while some others praised it highly, so Iunno which is the dominant opinion or the more "correct" one. But MyAnimeList is a rather popular anime site, so most of the users there should know what they're saying and have seen enough anime to give unbiased reviews.
+Bartman Simpson you can just look at the average rating on the left that gives it a 8/10. then look at other review sites which all give it an average 8 or 9 out of 10. it's also on most of the top 10-20 animes you should watch lists. also you have to remember all those reviews are from people and most people are stupid so you shouldn't fixate on one person's opinion and try to find the average.

Vapor Maybe it should have been underrated at the time it came to the States. With streaming giving us legal viewing, it's not like it was back in the 80s and 90s. It was hard to get good dub, much less good subs. They should do the top anime dubs (if they haven't already).
Wolf's rain was the first anime I ever watched, and captured me in to the world of anime. It was a beautiful anime and I cried tremendously at the end, I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone
What about One Piece? This anime is really underrated, I think I'm the only person who knows this anime. Other really underrated animes are Naruto/Naruto Shippuden, Dragon Ball Z, Bleach and the most underrated anime of all time, Fairy Tail.

Piper Kilmister Well, I enjoyed it too, even though I read the manga. Thing is, the start is pretty gruesome, and really catch your interest. The gore is a bit schocking at first, which is a good point, I guess... But after a while, it gets old, and the plot doesn't pick up. You can see that in plenty of manga like that. So you're left with more and more fights you don't really care about. Especially when you know who's going to win. And so, to get back to the point, when I see people saying it was great, sometimes, even deep. It just gives me the same feel that you get when some Hunger Games fangirl/boy says it has a great social commentary and is totally original. Basically, I think it's just one of thoses anime that get a non-anime fan following, and all thoses self called otakus hype it too oblivion. Like for SnK or SAO. Both are good, but not as great as you hear it was. I agree there is a time factor, though.
Yeah, I tend not to listen to the hype of a show, because overall whether or not I enjoy it could depend completely on how I personally react to the anime. I loved blue exorcist, and tons of people hated it. Reviews can be helpful for figuring out whether I should watch an anime, but my personal enjoyment doesn't always go with them, so I really don't put too much faith in the opinion of reviewers and the hype behind an anime. Because of that I was able to enjoy aldnoah zero before its trainwreck of an ending while the majority of people who watched it were extremely disappointed. I dropped SAO during the fairy arc because I PERSONALLY did not like it, but that one is super popular. Also is the manga of deadman wonderland worth a read? I know we aren't getting a second season, but I want more of the story!
Some actual underrated anime I recommend. The Legend of Legendary Heroes, The Devil is A Part Timer, Baka and Test, Code Breaker, Is This A Zombie?, and Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet. (To me these are underrated because I rarely if ever see people talking about them or even know people who have ever heard of them.)

I would look it up and see if you're interested in it first (or even just watch the trailer) and if you are you should definitely give it a shot. Jiraiya Sannin Durarara is a bit more understandable than ouran. Its not critically popular, despite being so good. Samurai champloo has whats called a "Cult following". its popular within a certain niche, but never took off elsewhere. same with DRRR

i said more understandable than ouran. Ouran is so stupidly popular that if you asked for a funny shoujo anime, people's first reply would be ouran. Durarara, while popular in some circles, is still more obscure than that. As for samurai champloo, the rap theme's may have turned certain people off to the show.

Deadman Wonderland underrated? it was on fucking Toonami. Elfen Lied? Baccano? Angel Beats? Samurai Champloo? Hell no. Yu Yu Hakusho is one of the most revered anime of all time and it was on American national TV, and I'm sure many other countires. Yeah, not underrated. Man, anime lists are the absolute worst WatchMojo makes, it's clear they have no idea what they're talking about, lol. But it's cool, most of these shows are okay. Props for mentioning Mushishi though.

Shinichi Mechazawa One title I would truly consider underrated is Noir. Hardly anybody has heard of that title. It's a neo-noir anime about a skilled French assassin named Mireille Bouquet who teams up with a young amnesiac Japanese girl called Kirika Yuumura (which is not actually her name) in order to find out her real identity. While it tends to have flashback scenes in certain bits as well as slow paces in the early episodes, it's a good, mysterious anime, with dark visuals as well as the soundtrack by Yuki Kajiura. It's also the first in a trilogy of guns-with-girls titles by the little known anime studio known as Bee Train, which are more well known for the .hack titles, followed up by Madlax and El Cazador De La Bruja. All three shows are similar but have big differences. I suggest checking them out.
I think Claymore deserves a FMA reboot badly but audience dont give a damn. But.. it shouldnt follow manga strictly which became repetitive after a point. Needs more additional events for Raki and some others. Claymore and Elfen Lied are my top2. Claymore is unique in so many ways..Somewhat similar to AOT and Berserk but not that similar in details. Valkyries Backstories Almost 0 fanservice Dark and Unique Pagan soundtracks And of course... Teressa & Clare!
Claymore was ten times better than AOT, atleast she grew as a MC and AOT MC is still the same since his mother died "half cocked" and generic like naruto, they just don't make them like they use to.

Yu Yu hakusho is the perfect anime, "no fillers" and all the characters have a purpose and no cliffhangers a completed anime that's why it doesn't have to be rebooted. Wished they would have finished Hitman Reborn
made in the 90's? that's probably why its underrated, because last time I checked this is 2018 and not the 90's, if it wasn't underrated before it now is, I think an underrated anime would be Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash mostly because all of the other animes that people know are the ones that suck up all of the attention even if they aren't that good compared to the less popular ones, like a gaming youtuber with several million subscribers who sucks at playing games and has a terrible personality and other youtubers who have 1000 subs and they are funny, nice, and great at playing games. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash is an alternate world from ours and it is filled with myth and fantasy creatures, there's an obelisk outside of a human village and every once in a while people that have no memory of their past lives get teleported into the world, they wear modern clothes and have phones but they dont know what they do or why they have them and they dont seem to work, the humans in the world are all in one village and they have fighting guilds, its a survival based anime, the human race is brought to an unknown place and they have to fight to survive, it has a nice plot and the characters that have been in the village the longest have some deep feels going on, and a lot of background in their lives, great anime, you should definitely watch it
mrbilra #1 was great as a story, gore, and fights. #8, was great in gore and nudity, but shitty with the rest. Mostly because the gore represent the death in anime which means no BS with reviving and shit at the end. So you have a good story where it develops in that fantasy set with the fear of consciences.

well it kinda is. actualy many people watch the first like 20 episodes and think its just another boring comedy show. If you ask around, people know them all: hunter x hunter, dragonball, one piece, naruto, bleach and so on.. but nearly noone knows katekyo hitman reborn and its probably better than some of those big shounen shows. toriko is another example in my oppinion of an underrated show :D
It is sure it was once mianstream but it lost popularity quickly when it ended maybe people didnt like rewatching it or idk but the thing is at the time of its release most of us were kids watching dbz and other mainstream stuff but the thing I really cant get out of my head is why did it end so early on I think there were still 2 story arcs to be animated

Well, part of the problem is that underrated is more of an opinion after a point. The first two Angel Beats and Samurai Champloo I have heard of, but have never heard of Elfenlied. I'm the former president of my schools anime club so i do have some experience with anime.

Avoided it because the negative reviews are saying that it's just T&A with alot of edgy gore and not worth a try. Despite that I still have it on my To-Watch list since just the "Psychological" tag on any anime attracts me to it, but it has a rather low priority on the list.

Piper Kilmister Well, I enjoyed it too, even though I read the manga.
Thing is, the start is pretty gruesome, and really catch your interest. The gore is a bit schocking at first, which is a good point, I guess... But after a while, it gets old, and the plot doesn't pick up. You can see that in plenty of manga like that.
So you're left with more and more fights you don't really care about. Especially when you know who's going to win.
And so, to get back to the point, when I see people saying it was great, sometimes, even deep. It just gives me the same feel that you get when some Hunger Games fangirl/boy says it has a great social commentary and is totally original.
Basically, I think it's just one of thoses anime that get a non-anime fan following, and all thoses self called otakus hype it too oblivion. Like for SnK or SAO. Both are good, but not as great as you hear it was.
I agree there is a time factor, though.
Yeah, I tend not to listen to the hype of a show, because overall whether or not I enjoy it could depend completely on how I personally react to the anime. I loved blue exorcist, and tons of people hated it. Reviews can be helpful for figuring out whether I should watch an anime, but my personal enjoyment doesn't always go with them, so I really don't put too much faith in the opinion of reviewers and the hype behind an anime. Because of that I was able to enjoy aldnoah zero before its trainwreck of an ending while the majority of people who watched it were extremely disappointed. I dropped SAO during the fairy arc because I PERSONALLY did not like it, but that one is super popular.
Also is the manga of deadman wonderland worth a read? I know we aren't getting a second season, but I want more of the story!

Some actual underrated anime I recommend. The Legend of Legendary Heroes, The Devil is A Part Timer, Baka and Test, Code Breaker, Is This A Zombie?, and Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet. (To me these are underrated because I rarely if ever see people talking about them or even know people who have ever heard of them.)

***** For me gargantia was pretty interesting. It has a nice twist to it and I liked all the characters too. I would look it up and see if you're interested in it first (or even just watch the trailer) and if you are you should definitely give it a shot. Oh and I really hope the devil is a part timer gets a second season, it had me laughing from the first episode to the last.

Another I would put into the list would be Aria the Animation. I'm not really sure if it's underrated because it has 3 seasons but I never see anybody talk about the series despite how good it is. Jiraiya Sannin Durarara is a bit more understandable than ouran. Its not critically popular, despite being so good. Samurai champloo has whats called a "Cult following". its popular within a certain niche, but never took off elsewhere. same with DRRR

Shinichi Mechazawa One title I would truly consider underrated is Noir. Hardly anybody has heard of that title. It's a neo-noir anime about a skilled French assassin named Mireille Bouquet who teams up with a young amnesiac Japanese girl called Kirika Yuumura (which is not actually her name) in order to find out her real identity. While it tends to have flashback scenes in certain bits as well as slow paces in the early episodes, it's a good, mysterious anime, with dark visuals as well as the soundtrack by Yuki Kajiura. It's also the first in a trilogy of guns-with-girls titles by the little known anime studio known as Bee Train, which are more well known for the .hack titles, followed up by Madlax and El Cazador De La Bruja. All three shows are similar but have big differences. I suggest checking them out.

made in the 90's? that's probably why its underrated, because last time I checked this is 2018 and not the 90's, if it wasn't underrated before it now is, I think an underrated anime would be Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash mostly because all of the other animes that people know are the ones that suck up all of the attention even if they aren't that good compared to the less popular ones, like a gaming youtuber with several million subscribers who sucks at playing games and has a terrible personality and other youtubers who have 1000 subs and they are funny, nice, and great at playing games. Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash is an alternate world from ours and it is filled with myth and fantasy creatures, there's an obelisk outside of a human village and every once in a while people that have no memory of their past lives get teleported into the world, they wear modern clothes and have phones but they dont know what they do or why they have them and they dont seem to work, the humans in the world are all in one village and they have fighting guilds, its a survival based anime, the human race is brought to an unknown place and they have to fight to survive, it has a nice plot and the characters that have been in the village the longest have some deep feels going on, and a lot of background in their lives, great anime, you should definitely watch it

mrbilra #1 was great as a story, gore, and fights. #8, was great in gore and nudity, but shitty with the rest. Mostly because the gore represent the death in anime which means no BS with reviving and shit at the end. So you have a good story where it develops in that fantasy set with the fear of consciences.
If you want to kill someone in a story and make it believable, you just keep him/her dead.

Well, part of the problem is that underrated is more of an opinion after a point. The first two Angel Beats and Samurai Champloo I have heard of, but have never heard of Elfenlied. I'm the former president of my schools anime club so i do have some experience with anime.

Yeah, i've never heard of this anime hahahha. Anyways, the same happens with Kingdom. In NONE of the vídeos and other stuff about anime I watch people talk about Kingdom, lol. Its FUCKING Underrated too and is a masterpiece. (can seems weird at first but is AMAZING)
I agree. Planetes is in my top 5 list, it's extremely overlooked but it's a masterpiece.

Baccano is a master piece but the half otaku who have seen it never finished it cause they dont understand the beggining and That's normal! It's the point of the anime that a story dont begin with a date or a character or a place, it began with you. And a lot of people dont get it and dont like it but Baccano is truly an underrated masterpiece.

They even used a clip of his name being said and still got it wrong.... Also pronounced Baccano Bach-an-o when the a as in fat sound doesn't even exist in Japanese and as such, in this damn series.... *facepalm*
