At its peak, gang violence in UP was a web of ‘supari killings’ and alliances against the ‘common rival’. One of the most notorious names to emerge from these ganglands is Brijesh Singh, who is alleged to have been a Dawood Ibrahim gang shooter in the 1990s. In Ep 1215 of Cut The Clutter, Editor-in-Chief Shekhar Gupta peels some more layers off a bloody heartland chapter. Part 2.

I earlier had hard time thinking why yogi had such a support in UP. i always thought just religion could not be a factor, cause it never enough to get such majority. But now i kind of understand a bit about mindset of a voter of UP. clearing this gundaraj by hook or crooks, is what yogi promised and people also wanted that.

You should understand one thing, All these gangsters, irrespective of which side they are from, once used to be Street Mashias, at least they are perceived to be. When the real world hit them they changed to gangsters.
now who is to blame for this ?? the public, politicians, law enforcement or Judiciary??
      1. The public is not patient enough to wait for the results to come after decades or centuries, even no one can guaranty it will be the right one, can you blame them??
      2. Politicians are there to win, they will do everything to win a seat, it is engraved in their blood, can you blame politicians??
      3. Law enforcement has powers to control them, but do you think they will risk their and their family's life ?? when they know that the Courts will release them on the fourth night. Who will give security to them and their family from these gangsters??
Who is the last remaining?? until the last remaining organization is not ready for reforms, this will continue on. you don't need 2 to 3 decades to convict a criminal, why can't any case be heard in one stretch?? We do not want to question, even if someone questions the system, They will be in great trouble.
Now tell me what is the difference between both?? I see nothing, the common man is afraid of both!

I was born in this region, a village in Ghazipur to be precise. I grew up far away from my village in a metro city. But we used to visit my native village every year, Brijesh Singh was a hero for many people around me because he belonged to “our caste” and he was “protecting” santan dharm from Muslim mafia Mukhtar. I did not understand this glorification, but Overtime realised that the society in Hindi heartland is very very deeply divided on caste and religious lines and thus people can see no wrong as long as the person is from their caste (or religion in case of Muslims). Over time i have stopped identifying myself as a Rajput, I don’t want to continue this nonsense and if I have kids I plan to give my children caste neutral surnames. I am also going against my family and marrying a girl outside my caste, at the risk of being disowned by family.
There are so many smart people in these regions, it’s a pity that the socio political situation is ruining this talent and wasting it on odd jobs and crime.
ps: I’m doing quite well for myself, working as a computer scientist in a top MNC and a true patriot (I pay a lot in taxes!!!)

Just being a Rajput does not stop you from achieving success or doing good in life. Your region has a problem of casteism not the caste itself. You can leave ur village if possible but you can't blame Rajputs for all the messed-up things happening there. And you are not the only one from the community who is working at some top MNC just an average guy earning to pay his bills.
Suggestion: convert ur kids to Islam or Christianity so that they don't follow any caste.

Being Rajput from sultanpur one of things often discussed about affect of mafiagiri of Brajesh on his sisters..
They got overaged at that time and no one from society was ready to marry them due to underlying challenges..
These people looks rowdy from outside but family has to suffer a lot because of them

Did u listen what Shekhar Gupta said in the video?? Brijesh singh was a bright student and pursuing his BSc so clearly he never had the intent to join crime but his father got killed and the system was rotten and biased towards the criminals(or bahubalis). So Brijesh decided to avenge his father's death that's how he was introduced to the realm of crime. The underlying point being a criminal is not born but a gradual product of apathy, injustice and negligence of the govt system.

    Hi sir,
Thank you for this episode. Please don't take this the wrong way but I could not care less about the last two episodes.
These stories are fascinating for 5-10 minutes, but to hear the lineages, crimes and antics of these gangsters for almost 50 minutes is just too much. For a minute there, I thought I was almost in an Ekta Kapoor show. I get that these people are important and that their life also reflects on our own society, our politicians, our judicial system as well as on our police but again, 50 minutes is just too much. I would much rather hear an inspirational story about some actual hero or person to take inspiration from rather than hear who killed whom, when and how and then how they bribed, threatened or killed other people to stay out of prison. There was a lot of clutter to cut here but was it worth cutting?
In my opinion, instead of focusing on the antics of these guys, this series could have been on the systemic corruption in our society at all levels and how that can be addressed. There is a reason most people are celebrating what happened in UP over the last few days. The reason for that is that no one believed that these guys could have been dealt with within the confines of the law. Now, that kind of mentality might be okay when you are at war, as Punjab virtually was during its worst terrorism phase in the early 1990s when Beant Singh and co had to take similar drastic measures. But, that was not the case here. I personally don't approve of the methods employed in the last few days, but again what other option was there? These people are ordering hits, running their empires and fighting AND winning elections while being imprisoned!!! How do you deal with that? What sort of change is needed? These are the sort of questions I would have been interested in more.
Your Nellie and Punjab series were important and invaluable because they were eye witness accounts of parts of our history that we would rather forget, to our great detriment. And again those episodes tried to point out some systemic failures that happened and the mistakes that were made. These last two episode served no such constructive purpose.
    Regards,
    A huge fan
