Everyone is talking about Gaga, but how about Salma?? Salma Hayek is in it, and her husband, François Pinault is the CEO of Kering, who also owns GUCCI. So Salma also married into the family, sort of speak. 🤣🤣🤣
Jared Leto gave one of those rarely seen crazy performances where we can expect him to be nominated simultaneously for an Oscar and a Razzie 😀 Gaga was pretty great. You could say that people are going gaga over Gaga here 😀
he deserved to be nominated. I am really surprised. People talked about Gaga getting the snub. The ones really snubbed were Jared Leto and Adam Driver and Al Pacino. Anybody who saw the movie should have easily noticed the difference between an actor and a pretender. Lady Gaga was pretending to be an Italian. No offence she tried but merely getting the accent is not enough. her character hardly grows in the movie and once Leto, Driver and Al Pacino show their skills she is not match for their talent. Their characters and acting adapt to the change in the scenarios. Gaga's performance is one dimensional. But Leto deserved the nomination. And I would have really thought hard about Driver and Al Pacino.
I would give the movie a 6.5. Ridley Scott really struggles to bring authenticity to the movie and the tone of the movie is surprisingly bland. For a movie which has so much of conflict and controversy, ranging from a rebellious love affair to marriage to family deception to corporate fight to extra marital affair and finally murder, House of Gucci is never really able to amplify anything. None of the themes come to forefront. The only thing that part of the movie that is highlighted is the planning of Salma Hayek and Lady Gaga. And frankly they mess the movie up. The is surprising restraint showed by the characters and a tone which seems to inspired by the Godfather. But this is not a mafia film. its not a movie about the underworld. its about fashion designers and passion and conflict. Why make it so serious. Its only towards the end of the second half that movie gathers some intensity. The ending too is vey lame because the director probably wanted to "justify" Lady Gaga's action and give her character a moral victory. I mean that is the only reason I could think of the sudden abrupt ending. Its disappointing but this is above ordinary effort from Scott. He was good in Last Duel. He really did not know how to present this story. This could have been one of the better movies of the year given the concept.
Lady Gaga trained at the Lee Strasberg studio. She was an actress before she was a singer, so it's not surprising that what she has done is not a fluke.
From the first trailer, you could tell it was going to be campy. I would prefer a more sophisticated film by David Fincher if they fixed the script. Loved Christy in the intro and what is Alonzo doing with his book shelf? Lol.
Fincher wouldn't have done much different to what Scott did. The film isn't campy at all, trailer misled us into thinking it might be closer to a Ryan Murphy project. The main issue for anyone would be the over the top performances by more than 3 actors. It was simply too much, unnecessarily distracting from a subject matter we know too well true story or otherwise. It would've been better served and received as a miniseries. Even that Leto performance would've been tolerable in small doses - I would've cast Mark Strong instead. Anyway, Razzie will have a field day with this, rightly so.
So this movie should have been a soapy 80s melodrama. Like Dynasty or Dallas lace screwballs. To be honest that’s what I thought it was when I saw the previews.
Everyone is saying it should have leaned more into the camp spirit. That it didn't, has rendered it a boring outing. Not sure that sounds like the makings of a cult classic.
Well it will appeal to the niche audience that loves it for the lines delivered by Gaga and the strange performance by Jared Leto. I can see it being embraced in that way. And I agree I think it should of maybe leaned into the camp a bit more, but I still found a lot of the more serious scenes really good as well. There are a lot of movies that maybe aren’t necessarily received well by critics upon release that find new life years later. I could see drag queens doing the Gaga monologues already.
@@blackmetal101 I've just watched it and, in all honesty, I'm shocked at just how dreary the film is. The characters aren't deliciously bad, they're just unlikeable in a sort of one note kind of way, so there's no buy-in for the audience. I didn't care what happened to them in the end as I just wanted the film to be over. One of the few aspects of the film that has been praised is Gaga's acting but it's barely competent. It's obvious that she's a novice as she often looks timid on screen and is unable to give her character any depth or humanity. The dodgy accent was only _part_ of the problem, though, to be fair, she wasn't the only one guilty of that and the other actors don't have inexperience as an excuse. I struggle to see how even a niche crowd would invest in this over-long movie to elevate it to cult status when the returns are so minimal. No decent baddies, no zingy one liners, and a low camp rating. Where's the pay-off for almost three hours viewing time? My sense is, if it fails commercially, it will be swiftly forgotten both by audiences and all those involved.
The accents in this film are atrocious. Jared Leto cannot do a Florentine accent. And Lady Gaga's Patrizia sounds more like the Jersey Shore than somebody from Northern Italy.
When did Ridley Scott become a boring and humorless filmmaker? This kick he is on, taking the tawdry and inconsequential problems of the uber rich, is getting old. Call this one, House of Gucci: Dare to Stay Awake

Okay, I’ll see the movie.
Christy that intro was awesome...🤣🤣💯👍

Salma Hayek is in it, and her husband, François Pinault is the CEO of Kering, who also owns GUCCI.

She played a very minor character and it’s nothing worth mentioning.
"Jared goes full 'Super Mario.'"

I think after Leto won his Oscar and his cult took off Leto went completely insane.

I enjoyed it. Sure it’s long and drags at times, but I was never bored.
Alonso said Lee Daniels I was thinking more Paul Thomas Anderson.
I'm so happy I wasn't the only one bothered by the music. It drove me nuts!
Ridley Scott has made a super Mario film.
This movie was excellent. Critics will detest it.
Jared was the best part of it. No joke
He was the most part of it, that's for sure 😆
Thorn birds is not trash Christy!
Jared Leto is more Super Mario than Chris Pratt

Watching the movie, I never got the sense they were actually in italy. It always seemed like they were in America the entire time.
That's funny!
Way too harsh with the review i really enjoyed it. Gaga will get an Oscar nom

I think 10-15 years ago Salma Hayek plays the Patrizia role.
She married the guy that bought out Gucci!
I kind of feel like this will be a campy cult classic in years to come. Not a great film, but so many meme-able moments.
Everyone is saying it should have leaned more into the camp spirit. That it didn't, has rendered it a boring outing. Not sure that sounds like the makings of a cult classic.

I also watched the film last night and my thoughts remain the same. I want to see it a second time. It’s flawed, but I was entertained by it.
@@blackmetal101 Interesting.. .'entertained' certainly isn't the word I'd reach for.
I tried to watch this review but I could not be less interested in seeing a film about rich people problems.
You should try it, lots of amazing films about rich people problems.

Their MCU reviews are on Spotify including eternals.

@@Christy_Lemire sweet, thanks! I had a brain fart and forgot to check the podcasts lol.
Btw I loved your Italian accent in this 😆
Pretty bad. Needed some editing.

There are many, many accents in this movie 😆
