Wow. Hearing Dustin and Jeff's perspective of how little time they had vs critics of the course made me really appreciate the work Dustin put in to make this happen!
@@orion7741 this is a really sad take. Have you ever been responsible for hundreds of people in a leadership/responsibility role? They already had sponsors, money brought in for prize pool, and hundreds of people coming to an event from around the country. It's not what we wanted, but come on. To cancel at that point would put the DGPT in such a bad place. If you have ever had sponsors, the minute you drop an event, you lose respect with sponsors. If you want money in disc golf, learning to deal with business's is crucial . Dustin and Jeff did incredible with what they had to work with.
@@orion7741 lol just cause the guys aren't down 13 shots a round cause the course is too easy. The field is pretty bunched up and this is a fucking great golf watching.
Yeah it's honestly amazing that they werenable to put together such a great track in so little time. Really speaks to Dustin's commitment to the sport as well as his prowess as a designer. I don't get all the negativity. Would you really prefer not to have a pro tour event to watch this weekend? You really just can't please everybody.
I was homeless, my arm had been amputated, and I was in the process of dying of exposure and boredom. But then Jomez posted yet another disc golf video! Now I'm rich, fat, and happy, and peace and love are spreading throughout the world. Thanks Jomez!
Appreciate you guys giving the TD and designer a chance to address the criticisms, and the challenges in making a tournament happen in a short amount of time.
I wholeheartedly agree with you on this. I wish I knew this info yesterday when I spent 12 hours on the course watching 3 different cards of Paul Mcbeth, Simon Lizzote and Paige Pierce. It was an awesome experience!!
Honestly the DGPT and Dustin did a great job to bring this event for us and the players. It doesn’t matter if some pros don’t like it. Still a great work, great course and personally I feel so lucky just to see some beautiful disc golf. ☮️
@@maxwebeats6305 Because a beautiful course dosen't really mean it's a good and fun course. If, like this course, it calls for the same shot over and over again and there isn't any changeups it isn't fun to watch and play. With that being said, I think it's great that they got a course togheter and didn't cancel the event and that is an achievement in itself. But that dosen't take away from the fact that the course is really boring to watch!
So far the longest course in pdga history is the 2019 music city open layout on Ravenwood. 13500 feet long, longest hole at 1350 feet with 400 feet of water carry off the tee, over several rises and the last 200 feet go up 100 feet in elevation. It was a par 72. I will never play that course again lol. By the time you were done you walked 7 miles. Chris Dickerson won it by a landslide.
Really glad we at least got a Portland Open, yeah it's a ball golf course but this one is better then alot of the other ones we see on tour imo. Though I Can't wait to see Milo and Blue Lake on coverage again next year.
Bummer! I was anticipating BSF coverage to probably pop up soon. It wasn't till your comment that I checked schedule to realize Milo McIver had been scratched. Nothing like that consecutive week of BSF & the Open here in the N.W. Hopin' it returns soon.

a couple of things, Amazing to see the contextual preview with the course designer! Also, Jeff talking about fielding criticisms about running an event made me feel cathartic.
Happy to see Simon on feature card! you can tell he's playing smart. it must be tempting to throw max distance at this course, but he's looking out for his health and still playing well :) thanks for the coverage jomez!
A lot of the course design makes sense knowing it was put together in a short period of time. I'm glad they could save the event and hope they take players criticism and play into account if it stays here in the future. It's a gorgeous venue and I'd like to see it grow and continue to be played here.
Why are Uli’s hole breakdowns so serious haha. He has such a good personality during practice rounds and commentary. Let’s go Uli! Liven up these hole breakdowns with some of your flair 😎
Love the intro about making sure there was an event in Portland this year! Also, loved that big Jerm called out pier park, I live in north Portland and that course is my go to. Much love y’all. ❤️
Yeah. I feel the douglas fur courses, like Milo, Piers & Dabney (w/ apple trees ta boot) are quintessential, signature N.W. courses as Jerm brought up the doug furs during practice rounds. Blue Lake, though awesome, not so much.
At least we have jomez. I live within walking distance of the venue and I didn't know they were selling tickets until after they were sold out. Then I was excited to watch the stream and learned they had also put THAT behind a pay wall.

I hope Nikko keeps spin-putting and making moves. I hope Simon finds his putting groove. Great coverage, y'all. Liked the intro story about the course design, so cool!
Just on hole 5 and I gotta ask, why no mandos?? Seems like that would cut out some of these roller holes and really force players to hit lines, and less bombs
This was a new experience for me, been watching every tournament casted by jomez for 3-4 years, the intro with who built the course, some back story, gives it a better feel, im a european, so i dont get to play these courses, so if u can do this every time, would be great, build up the story, get viewers more excited!! Jeff Spring is a good guy, a really good guy. First met him when I was editor of DiscGolfer and he ran the Worlds at Smuggler's Notch--Wow, two terrific courses and one of the best Worlds ever. When I heard he'd taken over the DGPT, I knew its problems were en route to being solved.
After watching the practice round, I was a little discouraged about the tour this year. This is not a great course. But now that I know it was built in 22 hours, I am impressed. Life is about adapting and overcoming and if you can't appreciate that they put on a pro level event under these conditions you are missing the point of this sport. We do not want another perfectly coordinated nationally televised sport like the PGA or NBA. We want a sport that still has character, a sense of humor and does not take itself too seriously. I mean these are grown adults playing freebie with trees. Let's have some fun folks! Thanks to JomezPro for keeping it real and not selling out too quickly and thanks to these guys for making this event happen!
@@Jesterian I personally do not like disc golf played on ball golf courses...period. But the coverage is great and the players came to play and at the end of the day it is easier to put on events at established ball golf courses. So, it is necessary and fun to watch regardless.
