My opinion on why Amigo and some of the early SHINee videos much older is that Kpop as an industry was a bit behind in the trends in the 1990s & 2000s. The industry was trying to create pop music like other countries but were almost playing catch up. This resulted in MVs from 2005 looking like they were from 1999 or 2000 and 2009 videos looking like they were from 2005 and so on. In the 2010s, the kpop industry skyrocketed which caused fast innovation! Now, in my opinion, the industry that was trying to play catch up, has leaped past the western pop market they were once trying to emulate leaving it in the dust.

Some people might find the older songs cheesy but it holds a lot of fond memories for the members and idols who joined the industry because of SHINee.
Colorful skinny jeans was really popular in this era of Kpop. You can imagine all the male and female idol groups having to dance in these bright but super tight pants. You can ask any older fan about the pant fashion of this time and they’ll remember.

Shinee actually created a whole new genre for kpop. Back in the days, in 2008 there was literally no group that can sing can dance like Shinee and also dressed very colorful. The music they released at that time also ahead of time because the instrument have alot of electric sound to it. I know about Kpop in 2006 with DBSK, I witnessed Shinee debut and I was so amazed with the concept and how good they are at dancing. I download the MV "replay" which is their debut song into my airpod and watch it for a thounsand time. I was so impress and I am still impress. My bias is Onew
New kpop fans can never have the same experience because they see and know kpop as of today, when everythings is trendy and flashy. Group like Shinee create a huge land lot so that the kpop industry can build on it.

Although, "Amigo" sounds like the Spanish word for friend, in Korean A.Mi.Go is supposed to be an acronym for the Korean phrase that means, something like: "You will suffer on your way to falling in love with a beauty." So, the story is about how the girl stole Minho's heart. She took his heart and left him with the note that is hanging around his neck. She has unfrozen him with her touch and put color back into the world. However, as the song says, "Cold heart, baby ... Cold eyes, baby." They are saying they have fallen for her, but as "the ice princess," she is always unavailable and just out of arm's reach. But they can't help falling for her anyway. That is why Minho is chasing after her. If you notice, she is always one step ahead of him. He can never catch her no matter how hard he tires. That is why she is the "Ice princess." she is sexy and intoxicating, but she is always playing hard to get.
The MV is literally depicting every word of the song. As the English translation of the lyrics say: "go, I run, ... Challenges are always fun, ... But the world isn’t as easy as it seems. ... I lose my mind when I see her, ... I'm unable to grasp her by this hand," etc. The story in the MV makes a lot more sense once you you combine it with the lyrics.
On a side note: Minho is the visual of the group who is known for his natural model good looks. His nickname is Flaming Charisma and he is also known for being super athletic and competitive, so that is why he is the member who is chasing the girl. In real life Minho doesn't stop until he wins and he hates to lose. He is good at almost every sport so he very rarely loses. :D But even he is no match for the "ice princess."
Minho also has the deepest voice, so SM made him the group's main rapper, and Key is the lead rapper. (Key is also fluent in English, so you might notice that his rap style sounds a little more western.) But, because SM originally wanted to make SHINee a hip-hop group, they were all trained in rapping. Hip-hop was the style of music that was really popular in 2008 when they debuted. That's why Key and Minho are rappers and how Taemin started out as a popper in dance. But, as Key tells it, they just didn't have the swag to pull off hip-hop, so SM switched up their sound and style to something that fit them better and they came up with the signature classic SHINee R&B vocals they are now known for.
Now, SHINee have become known as one of the top groups that all can do it all. They are a group of 5 amazing vocalists, 5 impressive dancers, 5 visuals, 5 rappers, 5 top actors, and 5 of the most talented and unique voices in all of Kpop. They are one of the most well rounded groups in the industry. When it comes to SHINee the vocalists can rap and the rappers can sing. They are such a versatile group that on the rare occasion when one of the members is unable to participate in a performance because they were injured or busy, any of the other members could potentially be tapped to fill in for them -- all the members can cover all the parts of their songs.
As SM's experimental boy group, everything they do is meant to be the first and they are expected to set the trend. With every new song SHINee produces it's expected to be different than the last, so you will never hear the same style or sound from SHINee in any of their songs, even on the same album, and yet, somehow it will always sound like SHINee. The industry looks to SHINee to show them what the next song style and dance trend will be. And it is said that within 3 months of SHINee releasing their new song and choreography, you will see that same sound and style being duplicated across the industry with every comeback to follow from both boy groups and girl groups. When SHINee does something the industry takes note and follows suite. SHINee has started the trend with almost everything from songs to dances to clothing, to live performances, to the way Kpop is promoted, there is almost nothing that can't be attributed to something SHINee has been involved in.
Next to R&B, I think Rock is SHINee's next best genre of music and they often do rock style remixes of their songs at their concerts. You should check out their rock version of "Amigo" at their SHINee World Concert in 2011. th-cam.com/video/a_TgKPLmrJY/w-d-xo.html.
Just a friendly warning: Be careful reacting to these network TV production comeback performances. Especially MNet performances. TV networks, and MNet in particular, have a tendency to be hypersensitive about copyright and will often give you strikes easily. The copyright for comeback videos are owned by the network TV company and they very rarely allow their videos to be used outside of their releases of the performance. I have witnessed many TH-cam channels get taken down really quickly for doing too many reactions to comeback stages without being super careful about how they post the video and audio. Just a warning. The closer you get to their more recent videos the more you might run into copyright issues, so be careful what network live productions you choose to react to for any group.
However, when it comes to Kpop groups, you're better off sticking to their official DVD concert videos or dance practice videos instead. Concert videos are usually pretty safe to react to. Besides, you really need to see the concert versions of most songs -- especially SHINee's songs. Comeback stages aren't even a good example of how amazing SHINee are live. Most of the time concert performances are 100 times better then any other version you will see of the song, including their MVs. You will be blown away.

"Juliette" is one of the dozens of songs that was wrote by Jonghyun. You might recognize the melody of the song because it was originally a song covered by the American singer/actor Corbin Bleu called "Deal with It." When SM bought the rights to the song they kept the melody, but Jonghyun rewrote the lyrics. :D As you can see, Jonghyun was writing songs and making his mark almost from the beginning.
And Minho also wrote his rap section in the song. Minho has credits on almost all of SHINee's songs because he writes all his rap parts.
As you discovered, Jonghyun is known for his Michael Jackson-like vocals. That's just Jonghyun's classic high note style. Jonghyun is known for his MJ style cry and for sounding a little like Michael when he sings any of SHINee's classic R&B songs. Taemin is the one that dances like MJ, but it's Jonghyun that is the one that sounds like him. During "Juliette" (and "Amigo"), Taemin was still growing into his voice, so he doesn't really have a whole lot of lines in the song, so instead they highlighted more of his dance skills.
"Juliette" came out in 2009 (promoted alongside "Amigo" which was their repackaged album single), so Taemin was a year older than in "Replay" -- he was almost 16 years old here. Minho is 17 years old here. Key is also 17. Onew was 19 and Jonghyun had just turned 19.
As with all of SHINee's MVs, if you really want to see their dancing, you have to check out their performance version MV -- which is designed to highlight the choreography -- or better yet, a live performance. Plus, there is nothing better than SHINee live. Check out their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) performance of "Juliette" (and "Amigo") from 2016. th-cam.com/video/81qtwuWjYog/w-d-xo.html
Fun fact: In 2011, as part of their Japanese debut, they also came out with a Japanese version of "Juliette".
The glasses and masks they are wearing in this MV are crazy because they are supposed to be attending a sort of trendy version of a masquerade event like when Romeo and Juliet secretly meet each other at Juliet's family's costume masquerade ball. The SHINee boys are all supposed to be Romeo and they are searching for their Juliette (Who is played by Krystal from F(X), SHINee's sister group).
This was also part of the era where SHINee started the trend of the colored skinny jeans. SHINee are known for their "school boy fashion/student look" and everyone started wearing colored skinny jeans at this time because of SHINee. They are even trendsetters when it comes to fashion. Never following trends, but always creating them in everything they do. :D It is safe to say that the original trend of colored skinny jeans in the west was probably a transplant from the trend that SHINee started. A lot of foreign idols over the years have told SHINee that the fashion trends they started in Korea were adopted by them in the U.S., Canada, China, Thailand, etc. That's how influential SHINee are.

Thank you for the reaction! Juliette is one of my favourites from shinee. It’s incredible that Jonghyun wrote the lyrics for this song as it is rare for idols at sm ent to be involved in making the music because sm have so many lyricists/producers and the selection process is very competitive. The fact that Jonghyun did this shortly after debut and for a title track is really amazing and he goes on to write or produce so many of shinee’s best songs and also almost all of his own music and songs for other artists too. Minho also has been writing most of his raps since very early on.

In Amigo, when they say "Cold heart baby, cold eyes baby" the cadence really reminds me of the song Ice Ice Baby by Vanilla Ice. I absolutely adored Juliette from the moment it dropped. The MV style and the song are very reminiscent of early-to-mid 1970s American pop songs - fun, upbeat, innocent but cheeky. Since you enjoy choreo, I encourage you to watch a few of their many stages of Juliette, as the dance is lost a bit in the MV. I especially like their Music Core performance 20090606, as well as SHINee World V (which really highlights their live vocal superiority; only backing tracks).
BTW, please do NOT feel like you have to cram SHINee reaction videos in by some random date. With Taemin gone, I for one appreciate the trickle-out so that I can keep getting my "fix" of fresh material on our boys. As you've learned, lol, there is a ton of great content from many stellar groups.

Can you believe how young they were in 2008? 14-17! Taemin really was just a baby then. He wasn't even allowed to sing on the first album because of possible voice issues. (Cracking)
I'm so impressed with him for sticking with it through that year to be with the hyungs and create the SHINee we love. He always smiled so big as he danced.
SHINee was set up as a trend setting group, for music and fashion, so their clothes are always a little "out there" in those early years.
As for Jonghyun, he always exudes talent. If you listen closely, you can hear that he sang Taemin's parts. Now Taemin sings more like Jonghyun! Full circle.

The music video quality was crap. SM did SHINee dirty in their debut. There were no teaser photos, no teaser videos, no showcase. They literally showed up to a music show to perform. That was it. Even their parents didn't know they would debut until the moment they were on stage. How did SHINee promote their album.... SHINee walked down the street with Taemin's cute elephant backpack and handed out lolli pops to spread their name. They sold their albums on the street. Begged in some cases to buy their first album. SHINee have always been hustlers. Never turning down a job even to model women's make up, skinny jeans, chips, whatever to put their name out there. Knowing that don't they impress you even more?

Yes, this comment. New K-Pop fans could never imagine how hard SHINee had to work and the absolute gaping void of promotions around their debut. I remember hanging out on omonatheydidnt on LiveJournal back in the day when SHINee's webpage came online like, 2 days before their debut. It was just that and some barely defined profiles that people scrambled to translate. The whole fandom was like, "who the hell are these kids and where did they come from?" Then they performed and it was like a revelation, everyone was screaming to know more but poor SHINee were just performing in some park somewhere trying to get their name out.
