Beautiful job. I need to get one of those bowl savers. That's awesome.

Enjoy seeing your videos. Every turner should have friends who do not want trees. Look forward to seeing the finish turning in a few months.

    Absolutely beautiful! 👍❤️
I've never seen a pear tree that large! I am guessing that in your part of the world, the pear trees are much older and larger?

    Vary nice and interesting.
By packing the bowels in saw dust you are slowing down the drying I believe. The wood still dries but
slowly. Does drying snowly help the cracks from becomming to large if the wood drys slowly?
    :)

      UTubeGlennAR,
Yes, slow drying will typically help to lessen checking (cracking). It allows time for the wood to adjust as it loses it's moisture. A good typical rule of thumb is to leave the wall thickness about 10% of the diameter in the first turning. That leaves enough to make it round again in the final turning. Length of time to let it dry depends on the moisture of different species of wood. Some turners let different woods dry anywhere from 3-18 months. The easiest way to know when it has "stabilized" is to take it out and weigh it on a digital scale once per month, then when you have the same reading two times in a row it is ready for the final turning with a whole lot less chance of cracking any further.

You're quite welcome. BTW, keep a sheet of paper with your drying weight record in the bowl so you don't have to remember all of your project's weights.
