I finally opened my Chivas Regal Ultis after having it for nearly 1 1/2 years. I have to admit, I do not love it, but perhaps that is because I have been sipping on 18-year-old Glenfiddich single malt for the past several months. I will try it again in a few days. Maybe I will end up giving it away, who knows.

So Im new to the scotch game. Just bought a bottle of JW Blue for my Birthday. I like it, however hate the Black label. I want to try the Green, which brings me to my question. Shouldnt you be comparimg this to the Green label or is it just based on price?

ChristopherCoats The reviews were primarily based on a similar price point. If you hate Black Label, you might not care for the Green Label. It’s closer to Black than it is to Blue.

Thank you! Interesting, I assumed that I would like the Green because I liked the Blue and figured that was due to being 80 percent malt. You said two things in this video that I really liked. The richness due to a lack of grain whiskys (which is what I thought i dug) and about viscosity. I think I really like the "oily" mouth feel of the blue. If that is the correct way to word that. Maybe my preference is in the age of the spirit for me. Again, only been into scotch for the past month or so. My pallet isnt refined or trained enough to pick up on a lot of the flavor profiles that others get (yet) when I watch these reviews.

      *UPDATE*
I Love the Green it is now my go to of all JW expressions. It is far closer to the Blue than the Black. The Black on my pallet now is a little better but I in fact fing it too refined and think I actually care to sip on red neat over the black. Red seems to be close to dewars white label too me and the red gets a bad rep from to many people doing whisky videos and reviews on youtube.
Again Green is my go too and the best of all Johnnie Walkers that ive tasted, which includes red, black, double black, green and blue.

I may but the pure mlt of green hits the spot. I have been stockpiling bottles as of late. I think im ready to try a caol isla or ardbeg. Im really interested in an octomoor...dont know if I spelled that right but havent seen it here on any shelves. Since Inlike the malt blend maybe single malts is where I should be. I have tried the macallan 12 recently and while it wasnt smokie at all I found to be excellent, something you coyld sip on with ease. Unless it was smokie and my tastebuds where wrong in which case the smokier the better.

Hi Adventures in Whiskey! I have wondered whether you had liked the previous bottles of Johnnie Walker more than the previous versions of Chivas Regal. For example, I believe that the Chivas Regal 18 was great but the XV was actually quite standard. I do love myself black/double black label Johnnie but I also believe Platinum (now aged 18) and gold reserve are mediocre. I know these price points are significantly lower compared to Ultis and Blue label. But I would be interested to hear your take. I have a bottle of Ultis at home, but I have yet to open it!

Open up that Ultis! I haven’t tasted as much Chivas as I have Johnnie Walker. While the whole lineup is nice (except current Red), I do prefer some to others. Love the Green Label, for example. It really just depends on what flavor profile you’re after.

If this Altis costs as much as the JW Blue, forget it!
