    It's hard to put into words what Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic have done in the game. With a combined 63 slams, 102 Masters 1000, and almost 900 weeks shared among them so far, you have to wonder why they are so good. Here are a few reasons

    I don't think there will be another big 3 for a while. We'll see rivalries form, but from what I'm seeing we'll have a more spread out talent pool with the coming generation, much like the 80's and 90's with maybe one or two dominating the field more than most, but not to the extent of the big three.

    people throwing next big 3 names like this is a regular thing .. do you know how rare it is in any sport that 3 players called goats play at the same time ? its the same in football with messi and cr7 even two at the same time is very rare .. the only potential of becoming a goat status one day is alcaraz all others can achieve great things but not end up in the goat debate so there will never be another big 3 in my opinion ..

    • @richietaylor9870
      @richietaylor9870 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I don’t think he’s suggesting that anyone will replace them as GOATs, just as the dominant group at the top of tennis when they’ve all retired. I think the more likely scenario is that you maybe have a group of 6-8 players at the top with a gap to the rest, which could actually make things a little more interesting, since there’d be a number of people at each big tournament with a realistic chance of winning it.

      The reason the "Big 3" won everything is that the overall level on the tour was incredibly weak.
      Thankfully, it's a rare occurrence indeed. Reminded me of women's tennis in the 1980s, when Navratilova and Evert split most titles between them.

    • @richietaylor9870
      @richietaylor9870 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fundhund62 I wonder how much their longevity helps, and I further wonder how much sports technology has to do with that. Footwear for example, is so much more advanced than it was in the 80s or 90s. Does this protect players joints so they can play til their late thirties, in contrast to earlier eras where they’d very rarely play much past 30? Do racket technology, analytical software, nutritional advances allow players to amplify the marginal advantages they have over other players, thereby making the rest of the field look relatively weaker.
      This is why comparing players across eras is always dodgy. Would Henri Leconte (highest ranking, 5) have beaten Andrey Rublev (5)? How would Yannick Noah (3) fare against Marin Cilic? I’d say the later players look stronger.

      Coric has been out for a long time with injury like Thiem has been and Zverev is now. When he was healthy he was almost a top 10 player despite being scrawny and inexperienced. He has a winning record against Nadal, Zverev, Shapo, Tsitsipas, Medvedev, Ruud and Tiafoe while being even with Kyrgios and he is one win away from being on even terms with Thiem. The only top players who aren’t retired to consistently beat him are Rublev for some reason and Novak and he has never played Sinner or Alcaraz.
      With a full season of good health he will be dangerous in every tournament next year and his only points will come from Cincinnati and maybe Tokyo and other late year tournaments so his rank will only climb from where he is at to top 10 status and probably top 5(he only made it to the 2nd round at Australia, Roland Garros and the US Open while pulling out of Wimbledon due to injury this year so he can cover a lot of ground just by winning a few matches in majors next year)
      He has the same build as Alcaraz but with a much more powerful serve and Sinner’s backhand. He will be a good rival for Alcaraz for at least 7 years or so.

      He should be fine now. He had wrist problems in 2019 and then shoulder surgery in 2021 but right now he is just working the kinks out playing top level tennis again and then he should be right there in the thick of things.
      I can’t wait until he plays Laver cup for the first time. Maybe he could play doubles with Alcaraz for team Europe.
      Hopefully he annihilates Shapo this morning and then he can start to get into the groove for next year.

    There will never be another Big 3. It was a lightning strike era that will not likely be repeated. Alcaraz could be the next exciting thing - hard to say b/c 2022 tennis rankings and tournaments got majorly f'd up with all the government policies banning Djokovic from Australia and the U.S. and Wimbledon points not counting -- so Alcaraz isn't a true world no. 1 in the eyes of avid tennis fans. But credit to Alcaraz for seizing his opportunity and winning UO. And just for the sake of argument about a potential Little 3, this list is too long. You lost me at Taylor Fritz and Tiafoe... Tiafoe has one 250 title and he's 24 years old. Likewise, Taylor Fritz has 2 titles, but Indian Wells Nadal had a fractured rib. Kyrgios is already too old to try and his entitled temper tantrums belong in a MMA cage fight. The toughest one is Thiem, whose tennis was fierce but he may never get back to his same level again. I love Rublev but he only has 2 gears. Berrettini gets injured too often. Casper Ruud is certainly a dark horse but his tennis is so boring. My contenders are Alcaraz, Meddy, Tsitsipas, Sinner - Zverev maybe if he recovers but yuck -- all I see is him choking out his ex-girlfriend, not a great image for tennis. Remember that each of the Big 3 won at least 1 slam by the time they were 21 years old, so only one that comes close to having that start is Alcaraz. But I will add that Tsitsipas and Meddy are the only ones on my list who've beaten the Big 3 at a slam -- and Alcaraz hasn't yet had to meet the Big 3 (now Big 2) in a slam. Even if he does, only Nole will be in peak form unless it's Nadal at French Open where he somehow becomes superhuman even with a broken foot. If we keep obsessing about who's replacing the Big 3 and slam counts, we're missing the point. This young generation is playing at insane levels - their athleticism has never been seen before in tennis and it's a joy to watch them flying around the courts.

    Alcaraz, Ruud, and Medvedev are your sure bet in the years to come! Then come Sinner, Zverev, Kyrgios and the rest. Still, none of these is likely get even near the results of the big three in my opinion. Alcaraz is the only one who has a chance to win 10+ (maybe even 15, 16 GS titles), and the others can consider themselves extremely lucky if they get to 7 or 8.
