The reason I loved Brett is because yeah, he's our special lil dumbass, but he holds himself to a HIGH ASS STANDARD with the way he treats other people. Just a genuine kind person who cares about other peeps.
The hug robot trauma was valid; exactly the reason my brother refuses to force his kids to hug ANYBODY if they don't want to. Letting them know that they have a say over their own bodies, that no means no when they say it (even to a adult), and that they don't need a reason to tell someone no
Something I like about Brett is that while he is incompetent at the beginning of the show he makes great strides not to be. They could've easily made him an incompetent asshole hired simply because he looked good but you can see he makes efforts to NOT be ignorant and incompetent. He constantly asks questions (as he is the audience surrogate) and wants to know more. He sucks at his job but tries not to be. And I think a lot of his likeable qualities comes from him recognizing Reagen as the better one of the two, and often will follow her plans and get the rest of the team to follow them.
Yea I knew that he loved her honestly. It never made any sense to me that he didn't. There was too much evidence that proved otherwise. They sure tried to trick us tho, didn't they? lol
This series is so well written that I can relate with Reagan (being a straight male) and I love it. We need more female characters like this: Strong, complex, flawed, and not defined by their male relationships, while still showing the effects those relationships have on a deep level.
It's usually more common for elder or middle siblings to be neglected in favor of the youngest, but sometimes you find families where the parents clearly were done having kids and decided to emotionally check out after having the last one. From the flashbacks and photos we see of Brett's family when he was a kid, it looks like there was a significant age gap between him and all his siblings. With how resentful his parents act towards him, and how much they emphasize how little use he has to them, I agree with the theory that Brett was the result of an accidental pregnancy after they thought they were done having kids, which is why he's treated so differently from his siblings.
This was me 7 of 8 I was basically ignored never felt close to mom or dad both are gone now but I'm ok with that I will always hold some bad feelings for stuff that happened I would like to say I turned out ok but that would be a lie I have a lot of problems finding friends I think by the time I came along my parents had checked out I never was hit but there was plenty of emotional abuse in our family.
My biggest shock is that they keep bringing back aspects from past episodes. Like her cloned hand. I was expecting every episode to just be its own thing like every other sitcom animated show.
The Rand-Reagan dynamic is honestly such a blessing because when father-daughter relationships are explored in media, usually, the whole idea is that the dad is overbearing because he doesn't want to lose his "little girl" and the relationship they have while the daughter resents him for limiting her ability to express herself and explore the world, and they come to an understanding. Rand is so fascinating and flippant in the way that his relationship works with Reagan, though. He has arranged every aspect of her life, he manufactures excuses for her to spend time with him, he made her the person she is in so many different ways and made sure to arrange the final picture to make sure he can see the best of himself in her, but he can't love her. He'll do everything he can to make her stay, but give her every reason in the world to make her want to leave.
@@themooshening9973 Hey, question. What sorts of other villainous/morally grey/dubious characters do you think that are a lot like Rand? Ya know, based on things like general show/book/movie themes, ideologies, motivations, stuff like that. :3. I kinda feel like he personally reminds me at least a bit of other abusive parental figures in media, such as Mother Gothel from _Tangled_ and _Tangled:The Series,_ Shadow Weaver, Lord Hordak and _especially_ Horde Prime from _She-Ra and the Princesses of Power,_ Walter Strickler/Waltolomew Stricklander from Guillermo del Toro's Netflix series _Trollhunters:Tales of Arcadia,_ Omni-Man from _Invincible,_ and even a character from a really old, 2000s cartoon that I grew up with, Vlad Masters/Plasmius from _Danny Phantom._ :3. Just wanting to get your particularly intriguing, highly-detailed perspective on the topic of this question. :3.
@@hannahmetzger6622 Tbh Rand is such a well-written character that I can't think of another abusive parent figure in fiction that compares to his complexity. I'm not saying none exist. I'm just saying I can't think of any. This is an adult animated comedy written by people in their 30's and even the youngest characters are in their 30's so some of the writing is pretty mature.
Honest thoughts on the video: agreed with a lot of points! But also it felt a lot like you were ranting about criticisms for too long instead of reviewing the show. I get the frustrations, but it's better to talk about a show's strengths and to breifly combat its criticisms than to spend so much time on the latter!
That's fair. As I said, most people seem to like the show. It's just that review was so terrible that I got worked up over it. I appreciate your comment, and I don't plan to rant over weird criticism the show may receive in the future. That was prob a one time thing.
@@francescovittorino528 If me "getting too personal" is an issue for you, you prob aren't going to enjoy the rest of the video. Might want to skip watching the rest and move on to something else.
this reaaaally helped me to get inside rand’s headspace in part 2. his emotional climax really hits different after hearing you talk through his character
I like your analysis of the Ridley family especially with Regan's and Rand's relationship. Very thoughtful and well put! Honestly I really liked your analysis of all the characters and even other shows you mentioned especially with the R&M comparison.
If the writer of the article actually watched the show, the complaints she would have made should have been about Andre, Gigi, and maybe even Myc. Andre has literally only been on the show doing drugs and being a background character. The most stellar part of his character was the fact that he's on drugs all of the time because he's insufferable when he's not. Myc's character has only really been fleshed out because of the hive episode, and we have absolutely zero information on Gigi, (what she's like as a person, her backstory, etc) other than the fact that she is the media manipulator and wants to work for the Illuminati. I'm excited to see the show explore the characters and their pasts more, including Brett's.
This video as a whole is underrated. I love how you explored how Rand is more complex than he seems. Overall great video and worth my time watching. Can't wait for a video on season 2.
You made a very good stance of rand being complicated rather than evil though rand is evil objectively, the daughter and father dynamic just solidifies his actions and makes the progression of events much more seamless rick on the other hand, just baffles in comparison, sure there is the sudden shift in rick's personality in recent seasons, but still felt abrupt and meh in comparison still love both shows, but inside job might take a higher spot in my list
Rand is bizarro-Doofenshmirtz change my mind but like seriously everything that redeems Doofenshmirtz condemns Rand. He is if Doofenshmirtz was truly evil. People say he was a Rick clone but he's really just alternate reality Doof (which I know already exists in 2nd dimension but still, it's uncanny)
ok w the autism thing I have a different much more nuanced take. I don’t think the show addressed it well and that it might have been better to not address it at all because while Raegan does have a lot of autistic traits the only times ASD gets explicitly mentioned in canon is for gimmicks that do perpetuate misleading stereotypes. However, THAT’S THE ONLY ISSUE WITH IT. Her being autistic doesn’t mean she can’t be traumatized, and her being traumatized doesn’t mean she can’t also be autistic. And the substance of the show portrays her as BOTH.
8:08 “people don’t introduce themselves by saying ‘hey in Mary I’m autistic’” Wait I do that “At least people with actual personalities don’t” Yeah no fair enough I don’t have one 😂 Very good joke, here’s approval from a random stranger on the internet 😊
@ 1:40 loved the labs in the background. One floor with humans experimenting on bug aliens and another floor down, we get the bugs experimenting on humans!
Absolutely loved the video and your analysis of it. I have a hard time saying what I’m feeling or saying and hearing someone so effortlessly do it about a topic I love makes it even better. I also really loved how Brant and Regan are emotional crutches for each other and helping live with the fact that they both had emotionally non existent families. It’s also amazing how they are both sides of the same coin showing how they both cope with having a terrible family, Brent make’s himself a mirror so that he can get anyone to like him and get the validation he never got growing up and Regan does the one thing she’s been doing her entire life and making machines and contraptions to deal with her problems and lack of social skills. And not once did Regan being autistic cross my mind, I just assumed that the show was very obviously showing Regan’s lack of social skills or people skills stems from the fact that she was isolated her entire life because her father pushed people away from her and made her go through school way to quickly. This show is amazing in so many other aspects that it I were to write them down I would probably be writing for a few days
I don't see Rick and Morty characters as characters, I see them more of righting props for meta experimental writing, so it's not a problem for me. I do agree with all you said about Inside Job, a really fun and thoughtful video thank you for making and sharing it
17:52 (SPOILER ALERT FOR PART 2 WARNING) there is an episode where we see Brett still meets with his family when the parents rank their sons from worst to best. And he still tries to please them even when they ate treating him like trash
HTF do you not have more views or likes? I really like the analysis and share of your take on Rand. I hope you've done a season 2 review of this show or at least working on it
This video helped me put into words why I love this show so much. And first of all, Reagan is the first female character I relate to as well, but that's no the only thing that resonates with me, the way the show deals with bad parenting and relationships is truly remarkable. My mum was pretty much a mix of Tamiko and Rand and I ended up being a mix of Reagan and Brett lol. Despite everything she's done wrong, I love my mum, she passed away when she was probably building up her redemption arc cause we were getting along nicely and I can tell she wasn't a bad person, just a troubled one, a terrible parent, pretty much like Rand. I got to a point where I ended up understanding and forgiving her, she was a smart and admirable person. This is probably why I agree with everything you said about Rand, haven't paid much attention to his character but his love for Reagan definitely made him way more interesting than Rick. Also I think that Rick and Morty is a nonsensical with some bits of realities while Inside job is more about human relationships and behaviours that we deem as normal and probably don't mind them much but over exaggerated for the sake of comedy and some bits of nonsensical stuff, both have their own charm in their own twisted ways imo, but Inside job is my all time favourite show by far. I'm glad you mentioned that article as well and I agree with everything you said about it too, the audacity of not mentioning Takeuchi, sheeeesh. I liked the vid and subscribed, I have no idea when you're making a video about part 2 but I'll be sitting here waiting patiently for it, keep up the good work!!
i really liked your review of this, it’s one of my favourite shows and it’s nice to see it’s getting like an analysis and things like that, can’t wait for your review of part 2 bc i really enjoyed watching this
As a late-diagnosed audhd (autistic and adhd) woman with a clearly audhd physics professor father who was only diagnosed as ADHD after 46yo, Reagan and Rand's relationship is very interesting to watch. My parents are going through a rather shaky divorce for some years now. My father has been with a different woman (one of the women he cheated my mom with) for over 2 years after my mom basically kicked him out. People are really complicated and complex and it's weird to feel empathy, care and love for someone whose most actions you loathe. It's really refreshing to see such an authentic father-daughter relationship take on animated adult cartoons
That article also said "Alex Hirsch's Inside Job is no Gravity Falls 2.0" and that IMMEDIATELY should tell you how unreliable and ridiculous it'd have to be, because it's NOT Alex Hirsch's show. It's Shion's. They clearly didn't actually do their research, I doubt they even watched the show long enough to see her name in the credits/end of theme song first thing. Edit: Hot take (?) I very much disagree with your point that Brett could carry Reagan because he's a man and usually are physically stronger than women. You are generally right, but honestly your second point is so much stronger; if Brett also did a desk job locked up in a lab all day without any exercise, it doesn't matter if he's a man or not, he is NOT going to be able to carry Reagan. I think it has way more to do with the fact he regularly exercises and keep his body in shape then that other factor, really.
I'm not sure how to respond to this. You're not even really disagreeing with what I said. Men are generally physically stronger than women, and you seem to agree with that so you're kinda straw manning me here. I don't think every man on earth could carry a full grown woman up the stairs, and I never said they could. I do agree that Brett exercising and being athletic had more to do with why he could carry her. I suppose I should have said it the other way around, but there's nothing I can do about it now. The video is already edited and uploaded and all that.
@@themooshening9973 Apologies, I didn't mean to be straw manning you or what you said, just stating my thoughts on the matter. It just feels weird to mention that as a factor into why he's able to carry her, I guess, when you also stated a much bigger factor right after? It was more of a nitpick, really.
i know how you feel. i too prefer to believe characters are two-dimensional simply because it makes for a more interesting viewing experience. i will think about your character interpretations of rand while rewatching s1.
SPOILERS FOR S2 . . . . . . . . . . . Honestly, S2 never fully confirmed this but your explanation on Rand really cleared up what season 2 was implying about Reagan and Rand's relationship, especially towards the second to the last episode. No matter what hapoened, he had always loved his family above the company and lashed out because of what could have been.
I'm a dude and relate to Reagan. It's not rocket science, she's a person, we all are. Sex doesn't matter here whatsoever and whoever thinks it does is cringe
What a silly thing to say. I literally have Vegeta as my pfp you clown. I don't only like Reagan because she's female, but it makes it easier for me to relate to her for very obvious reasons. If you don't understand why there probably isn't any way for me to explain it to you.
@@themooshening9973 oh no, sorry, i wasn't against your point, it was directed at people who don't agree on Reagan being a good character only because of her sex. I actually really liked the video and watched all of it, and agree with you on your stance on the show and the characters in it. Sorry again for this misunderstanding.
wow this is a really nice and indepth review of inside job season 1 !!! your review really made the characters sort of expand,, and i really cannot wait to hear what you have to say about season 2,, at the time i watched this i had already seen it and so a lot of what you said seemed to click in my mind,, and i'm really curious about your thoughts on season 2 because in my opinion it's sort of different in a way,, i really loved this video !!! rand is so complex and fascinating from a character standpoint and it's fun to see that acknowledged !!! also i love your analysis on how reagan is like a really great female representation,, also how she's like the best ever (i love her) !!! also i liked hearing about your thoughts in brett,, i love brett
The reason I think Rick is a better father than Rand is because Rand just can’t see how he’s in the wrong, sure he knows he’s wrong but he still believes that he’s in the right, Rick has jumped through so many different dimensions that he’s desensitized to practically everything yet he still keeps his distance from Beth due to what happened to his original daughter he cares but would rather implode the universe than admit it.
@@themooshening9973 basically Rick understands he sucks and avoids his family emotionally because of that while rand doesn’t want to understand his failure as a father and manipulates his daughter
For me Rick knowing that he is a bad father only makes him worse cuz even knowing that he still chooses to be the same while Rand does not want to do the changes because he does not think he needs to but If he realized that he was indeed a bad father he wouldve changed because thats exaclty what happens in s2
Honestly, I only keep paying my Netflix subscription each month just so I can continue to have legal access to Inside Job and another show that they have. I really think more people need to watch it because it's one of those rare adult shows that don't feel like they need to rip off South Park or Family Guy to be "adult." This show also felt so cathartic to me, as I see so much of myself in Brett and Regan as someone who grew up with abusive and neglectful parents and now has PTSD and years of trauma as an adult. I may have cried while watching this show at some points. I am also beyond annoyed that the writer of that article ignored the fact that the show was created by Shion Takeuchi and attributed the creation of the show to Alex Hirsch. At best, this just proves that she likely did not pay attention to the show at all except for whatever small thing she wanted to complain about. At worst, the writer intentionally erased a woman's achievements and credited it to a man who likely wasn't even involved in the show's writing for web clicks. Ironic.
im surprised Reagan wasn't smart enough to be able to ignore her past like the father. She needs to remind herself of her negative memories almost acting out of emotion not thought.
I think Rand is a terrible father but I love his character and that the show unlike rick and morty goes out of it's way to show you that yes he's a awful father. He loves his daughter and he's complicated but he's still terrible. Also I just really for once want a show where you don't have to forgive someone that has hurt you just because he's a sad boy and/or a genius... al a rick. He knows what he did was awful because he hides it from Reagan but it was so much easier for him just to push that guilt down and not think about that because look his daughter is everything he wanted her to be. He would have taken what he did to her to his grave if he could have. Rand is human, he made mistakes and he loves his family but there comes a time when you hurt your family over and over again that it's just not something you can come back from. I want Reagan to be happy, she loves her dad but I don't want him in her life. Much like how he just gives her a random old diploma pretending it was her's at 38:08 (says "his proficiency", she was 13 when she graduated so the date 1999 doesn't line up) everything he does for Reagen is always half assed. She wants a hug from him, he builds her a robot so he doesn't have to bother, there are quite a few more examples. Again you are right he's an excellent character and i'm sure he can be interrupted as a okay person, you make a lot of good points, I just think he's done too much to hurt and tried too little to fix.
Whether Rand is in Reagon's life or not is not up to you tho. You're not Reagon. She's a fictional character. I'll talk more about the symbolism in this show in my next video. There's a reason why this is an adult animated comedy. Keep in mind all the characters are in their 30's.
@@themooshening9973 Oh no I absolutely get that I just want it to be what happens, in the same way i'd love if Reagan and Brett just stayed friends, a gal can hope that a show bucks normal tropes haha.
What do you think about season 2? I think they pretty much delivered in Rand being a more interesting character than just "Evil". Not comenting on other things because really this was a Rand video, I'm not mad though. If there is something that I don't agree with you is that Tamiko isn't a narcissist. She is emotionaly detached from her daughter but that doesn't translate to narcissism. Now, I'm pulling this out of my own ass so take it with a grain of salt, but I think Tamiko never really wanted children, and while it doesn't excuse neglecting her daughter like that it would explain why she seems to be interested in more of a relationship with her now that Reagan is an adult. Rand on the other hand is pretty much textbook narcism: seeing his daughter as an extension of himself, having delusions of grandeur and a general believe that he is above everyone else. And much like with Tamiko, it would explain the different relationships he has with Reagan as a child (an extensión of himself that he can control) and a adult (a woman that while separate from him he still relates with through the filter of his own ego). Being a narcisist doesn't mean he can't connect to others but definitely shapes his relationships.
You're free to see things the way that you want, but the fact that Rand accepts criticism and eventually admits he was wrong, and Tamiko doesn't is enough to prove that he isn't a true narcissist. He may have narcissistic tendencies but he's definitely not a full blown narcissist like his ex-wife is. I'll go more into that when I review part 2. But as I said you're free to interpret things the way you want.
i really like the show, but its clear as day that the writers cant kept they political bias to themselves, from what i have seen maybe 2 or 3 jokes were about the "political left" and practically every episode has a joke/parody to the "Political right", if there is something i dont like in shows, games, etc is when they try to shove down my throat political beliefs, except that i think the show is really good
I'm not sure but I got it from epidemicsound. That's where I get all the music I use in my vids. I have a subscription. If I remember what the song is called I'll reply again and tell you what it is.
Reagan and Bret are two sides of the same medal. Both emotinally damaged in their childhood but they turned out verry different as an adult. Reagan being awkward and asocial and Bret being super social but extremely anxious. However they fill in what the other lacks and respect eachother for it. Also I dont bielieve that Rand doesnt care about Reagan and Tamiko. Rand however does not take any critisism on how he handles things. He blames it on others, tries to rationalise his disicions or just brushes over it and wants to forget it inmediatly. Without critique and having a good look at yourself, how can you possibly become a better person? This could explain why he constantly falls back to being a jerk and an awful father. He doesnt put any real effort into becomming a better person. Rand verry narcisisticly believes he did never do wrong. However everything points out he clearly did. He's hurt the people he loved, Reagan and Tamiko. His career is in the toilet. He's not exactly a stable person. Still he refuses to take any responsibility for his actions. And when he does he quickly falls back to his former self. Stil he does care about his family and in the end wants to be again like the way they once were
The whole point of the character of Rand is that he did not understand that he was a bad father for a long time. He certainly doesn't like being criticized, but he got to the point where he accepted that he was a bad father (due to Reagan criticizing him) and he did listen to Reagan (admitting he was a bad father and then later telling her he's proud of her and supporting her promotion) and was trying to change. People can't change their entire personalities on a dime, but he was clearly making the effort to change when he realized what a bad father he'd been. Reagan finding out about Orrin caused him to backslide, (there are a lot of reasons why he wouldn't apologize in that moment but I already went over all that) but he got back to how he was before and he admitted his wrong doing and apologized near the end of part 2. Rand is no narcissist. Narcissism is a very serious personality disorder. Narcissists care only for themselves. They are very selfish, unwilling to accept criticism, and are very cruel to the people closest to them. They are not even capable of empathy. It makes no sense to say "Rand loves Tamiko and Reagan" and also believe he is a narcissist. Tamiko is the narcissist. The show makes that very obvious. She literally married herself. She's in love with her own reflection just like narcissus from greek mythology. Tamiko didn't even have a job and was completely uninvolved in the parenting (letting Reagan get hurt over and over and doing nothing to stop it) and blamed Rand for everything and accepted no responsibility for being a terrible mother and a lousy wife (just like narcissists always do) She was a complete leech for their entire marriage. She's a far worse parent than Rand.
@@kloothommel6569 It's alright. If you don't have experience with narcissists or if you haven't done research on how that disorder works, it can be hard to spot them. I dunno that I would have gotten that emotional about the show if Netflix had just aired season 1 as a whole like they were supposed to. But yea don't worry about. All good.
Women make so many great shows, films, manga etc & it's not a big deal. I wish all of them got more recognition so that people weren't so sexist. If only we all had a bit of media literacy
@@themooshening9973 I wasn't referring to you I meant the reviewer who wrote that article & people like them are so weird: instead of appreciating a show like Inside Job they'll go after some weird agenda. I've watched shows I love like Tuca & Bertie get cancelled (twice) because people prefer to talk about what they hate instead of what they love, so I actually really appreciate you so much 🙏🏽 I don't make videos so I can't vouch for shows to as many people so thank you
I got six episodes in and I just couldn’t continue it. I like a lot of the concepts and I feel like it could be great, but the constant SA jokes with Brett and how annoying the side characters are were just too much. I loved Brett tho, I think he’s almost a perfect character and he deserves better. I hope maybe after some time I can try it again and maybe the later episodes are better
I've seen the first three episodes till now and I think the show is pretty jarring. A lot of jokes are just references and dont stand on their own, the writing feels forced / rushed which makes certain scenes feel unearned (the whole relationship in the first episode like). There also feels a lack of consequence for the most part. People do stupid shit and get away with it. The whole Mic episode was Mic being a problem to the team (sabotaging the operation) and instead of fixing the problem they just accept him for who he is which isnt a bad premise till you realize that he still is awful at his job and still should be fired. I especially dislike the b plots so far, they feel random and out of place. First episode; the drug and the shark guy are excluded from the party. This leads to nowhere. Then you have the love in popeless place episode (great title btw), where the old boss is just shitting on the desk. It feels so disconnected, it doesnt progress the story at all. No plot points feel earned. The writers should take a look at how blake snyders beat sheet (save the cat) work, there the b story always contribute to the ending of the movie or episode, which makes the story feel coherent and good. I'm debating if i should continue watching. I liked Keanu Reeves episode tho funny guy.
I'm not sure what to tell you. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean the entire show is poorly written. If it doesn't appeal to you, then that's fine. I agree that not every aspect of the show is perfect and there are definitely jokes that don't land. I agree that some of the middle episodes are quite strange, and frankly I don't care about most of the side characters but the main story between Reagon and her Dad and her dealing with the effects of emotional abuse is very well written. But if that doesn't appeal to you because you can't relate to it then I'm not surprised you don't find it interesting. That's kinda how story telling works. There are a lot of very popular movies/shows that I don't care about. Ready Player 1 for example bored me to tears. To me, it was like poorly written fanfiction. It was one of the worst books I ever read, but it was very popular. Maybe quit watching it if you don't like it?
@@themooshening9973 i understand what you trying to say. I wouldnt say the show is bad, i quite enjoyed the first season because it felt innovative and the world building is really well done. The ending of season 1 was really great, they nail the emotional beats that you are describing. I love emotional/drama shows and if you do too you should definitly watch Bojack Horseman, that stuff is filled with moments like this. I just missed these emotional beats in the first half of the second season so far. If anything, I feel that the show barely mentions the revalation of the last season if at all. They kinda brush over it in the first episode and its like oh its okay now because she loves someone now. I really dislike that part. I think it actually hurts the show to not adress it. It invalidates the emotional beats of the first season and its just make the show feel like a drag. Its just missed potential and in my opinion, it adds to that "no consequence". I do wonder if that gets better in the second part of the second season, so Im wanting to ask what you think of that. Does it get better and would you recommend watching through these episodes? I also wanna mention that what I wrote earlier was more as a comment on that the episodes are structured poorly (rushed relationships and beats, disconnected b-plots) instead of that the writing is just bad. It does have it moments (but then again, mostly what ive seen in season 1). Also i agree on what you say about the side characters. I'd say that I objectively dont care about most side characters (except brett). And Ready Player 1 also suffered from major problems. It feels more like a nostalgia cashgrab then a coherent emotional story with deep and rich characters. I'm curious what you think off all this. I dont mean it to critique your video at all, I'm just grateful to have a conversation about this subject. If you love this show then thats great, more power to you. Dont let anyone ruin your enjoyment of it just because they have a different opinion.
To me it is, especially in terms of adult animated comedies. I've never related to a female character this much, and I've never seen an animated comedy with such adult themes. I'll talk about that more in part 2.
i think i would love this show but the comedic timing is really bad. characters almost never talk over each other, the dialogue is very turn-based if that makes sense, and it’s just toxic to comedy. sometimes a character will walk on screen just to deliver a joke. the jokes themselves aren’t bad but they’re timed really badly.
I guess it just depends on personal taste. There's nothing wrong with you not liking it. I don't care for some of the humor either, some of the side charcters are pretty unlikeable and there are definitely jokes that don't land. I like enough about the show to ignore what I don't like about it. The overall story and character dynamics between the characters that I do like (reagon, brett, rand, ron) are well written, so I still enjoy the show for what it is. Then again I've always been able to pick and choose what I like about a fictional character or story and enjoy something even if I don't like everything about it. Rick and Morty for example is funny but the writing is rather childish, the characters are very unlikable and it doesn't have any real depth to it imo. It's funny tho so I get why people like it. Your opinion is completely valid, and you can enjoy or not enjoy whatever kind of media you want for whatever reason. Thanks for the comment.
the show just wasn't funny enough. I see this a lot with animated shows where they either pretend to be edgy or try way too hard to be edgy. One show that nailed edgy humor is south park, compare that shows humor to this show and it's just this unfunny, trying to be relatable/quirky mess that feels more annoying than funny.
I love the thoughts and effort but please get a better microphone or record in your closet or something the audio quality is giving me a headache while simply trying to enjoy, I love all that went into this just please fix the quality of the audio
I appreciate your kind words. It took me awhile to figure out how to approach talking about part 2, but I'm working on it. There will definitely be a 2nd part, and I'll keep making other videos as well. I have used discord in the past but I don't anymore for personal reasons. I really appreciate the encouragement tho, and I'm glad you enjoyed the video.
The reason I loved Brett is because yeah, he's our special lil dumbass, but he holds himself to a HIGH ASS STANDARD with the way he treats other people. Just a genuine kind person who cares about other peeps.
Yea, Brett is a sweetheart.
And I think a lot of his likeable qualities comes from him recognizing Reagen as the better one of the two, and often will follow her plans and get the rest of the team to follow them.
the part about Rand really hits the nail on the head after part 2
This was me 7 of 8 I was basically ignored never felt close to mom or dad both are gone now but I'm ok with that I will always hold some bad feelings for stuff that happened
I would like to say I turned out ok but that would be a lie I have a lot of problems finding friends I think by the time I came along my parents had checked out I never was hit but there was plenty of emotional abuse in our family.
Cool story bro.
Reagan has to be the one of the most relatable fictional characters
She's very well-written.

I like your analysis of the Ridley family especially with Regan's and Rand's relationship. Very thoughtful and well put!
Honestly I really liked your analysis of all the characters and even other shows you mentioned especially with the R&M comparison.
I’m glad someone made a video on it I feel like no one is talking about this show. I’m glad it’s getting some love. Hoping for a season 3
[SEASON 2 SPOILERS]
1:00:54 Well that aged like wine
Always liked the writing in this show but couldn’t really fully see why. Very good and in depth analysis of this shows complex writing!
This video as a whole is underrated. I love how you explored how Rand is more complex than he seems. Overall great video and worth my time watching. Can't wait for a video on season 2.
You made a very good stance of rand being complicated rather than evil
though rand is evil objectively, the daughter and father dynamic just solidifies his actions and makes the progression of events much more seamless
rick on the other hand, just baffles in comparison, sure there is the sudden shift in rick's personality in recent seasons, but still felt abrupt and meh in comparison
still love both shows, but inside job might take a higher spot in my list
The thing that really made me choose to keep watching was when Regan in episode 1 said "Jet fuel? You know this can't melt anything."
This is great please do a part 2
I'm already planning to. A lot of what I believed about Rand from the beginning was correct, and I have a lot to say about it. Thanks for the comment!
Rand is bizarro-Doofenshmirtz change my mind
but like seriously everything that redeems Doofenshmirtz condemns Rand. He is if Doofenshmirtz was truly evil. People say he was a Rick clone but he's really just alternate reality Doof (which I know already exists in 2nd dimension but still, it's uncanny)
rands mentality is like omni mans but hes just a regular dude
ok w the autism thing I have a different much more nuanced take.
1:00:54 the irony of hearing that after watching the new episodes
8:08 “people don’t introduce themselves by saying ‘hey in Mary I’m autistic’”
Wait I do that
“At least people with actual personalities don’t”
Yeah no fair enough I don’t have one 😂 Very good joke, here’s approval from a random stranger on the internet 😊
Her mother and her relationship has more focus in the second season
@ 1:40 loved the labs in the background. One floor with humans experimenting on bug aliens and another floor down, we get the bugs experimenting on humans!
Ok, I'll admit, you opened my eyes on Rand.
I hope you've done a season 2 review of this show or at least working on it
I'm definitely going to review the 2nd part.
I liked the vid and subscribed, I have no idea when you're making a video about part 2 but I'll be sitting here waiting patiently for it, keep up the good work!!
i really liked your review of this, it’s one of my favourite shows and it’s nice to see it’s getting like an analysis and things like that, can’t wait for your review of part 2 bc i really enjoyed watching this
Thank you! I'm really glad people like the video. I'm not sure when part 2 will be out, but I'm working on it.
@@themooshening9973 Part 2 is already out.
Yes I've seen the newer episodes. I meant I'm not sure when my next inside job review/analysis video of the newer episodes will be out.
The end of the second part hit hard because of this as well
That article also said "Alex Hirsch's Inside Job is no Gravity Falls 2.0" and that IMMEDIATELY should tell you how unreliable and ridiculous it'd have to be, because it's NOT Alex Hirsch's show.

If you don't understand why there probably isn't any way for me to explain it to you.

i love how u came for that one article 😭😭
It made me mad. Glad you liked that part. lol
good vid, showed Rand in a new light
The reason I think Rick is a better father than Rand is because Rand just can’t see how he’s in the wrong, sure he knows he’s wrong but he still believes that he’s in the right, Rick has jumped through so many different dimensions that he’s desensitized to practically everything yet he still keeps his distance from Beth due to what happened to his original daughter he cares but would rather implode the universe than admit it.
I'm not really sure how to respond to this. None of what you said made any sense to me.
@@themooshening9973 basically Rick understands he sucks and avoids his family emotionally because of that while rand doesn’t want to understand his failure as a father and manipulates his daughter
@@tuskalicious Rick not caring makes him boring to me. If he doesn't care then why should I?

Ironic.
That's really sad they canceled the show
9:21 Wth is she talking about? They clearly both equally save each other from becoming train wrecks
im surprised Reagan wasn't smart enough to be able to ignore her past like the father.
@@themooshening9973 Oh no I absolutely get that I just want it to be what happens, in the same way i'd love if Reagan and Brett just stayed friends, a gal can hope that a show bucks normal tropes haha.
really underrated video!!
Thank you! Hopefully it'll get some traction eventually, but either way I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Im sure Rand loves Raegan, espicially season 2 cements this. But he really is an awful father. And it doesnt excuse his terrible behavior.
I never said he wasn't, and I never excused his behavior. There is no excuse for any parent abusing their kid.
Hour and 55 second mark. Wow exactly what happened in a 2 he literally was trying to pull a rick
Great video!
Thank you!
I like your opinions
39 and you're right, it is pretty damn impressive, my favourite character is JR

i really like the show, but its clear as day that the writers cant kept they political bias to themselves, from what i have seen maybe 2 or 3 jokes were about the "political left" and practically every episode has a joke/parody to the "Political right", if there is something i dont like in shows, games, etc is when they try to shove down my throat political beliefs, except that i think the show is really good
I know what you mean. The political humor is pretty bad. It does get annoying, but I just try to ignore it.

People hated this show?? I absolutely loved it
Love this show so much!
Yea it's pretty great.
Good video. I would like to know what are your current favorite shows? Besides Inside Job, of course.

I mean florida alone...
The show is obviously made by a woman that can actually write? Is this a rare thing?? 🤔😉😜
To me it is, especially in terms of adult animated comedies. I've never related to a female character this much, and I've never seen an animated comedy with such adult themes. I'll talk about that more in part 2.
@@themooshening9973 aaah! I see what you mean now. Thank you for clarifying!
1000th like.
Thanks for commenting!
i think i would love this show but the comedic timing is really bad. characters almost never talk over each other, the dialogue is very turn-based if that makes sense, and it’s just toxic to comedy. sometimes a character will walk on screen just to deliver a joke. the jokes themselves aren’t bad but they’re timed really badly.
13:30 welcome to the modern landscape, where literature and nuance is dead and these people are the loudest
I think the brand part of him nice is fake and he edit it to her memory
the show just wasn't funny enough. I see this a lot with animated shows where they either pretend to be edgy or try way too hard to be edgy. One show that nailed edgy humor is south park, compare that shows humor to this show and it's just this unfunny, trying to be relatable/quirky mess that feels more annoying than funny.
It’s decent at best. Disappointing or jokey at more often than not
I love the thoughts and effort but please get a better microphone or record in your closet or something the audio quality is giving me a headache while simply trying to enjoy, I love all that went into this just please fix the quality of the audio
Disenchantment is pure garbage.
amazing i love this please keep doing TH-cam ik you'll blow up and id love to talk to you on discord about it
I appreciate your kind words.
