    VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
    Level of Detail calculations also known as LOD's can be very confusing even for seasoned Tableau users. A majority of the time the confusion begins because we are calculating at a different level to the visualization that is in front of us. Hence, it requires some imagination to do it sometimes.
    In this video I'll show you how I build LOD's in steps so you don't confused and you can see where the calculation is applying itself. We'll also go through what Level of Detail means and why the lowest level of detail for aggregates is crucial in understanding LOD's

    Just found you and love your explanations. Quick question. This also would've worked with a fixed on category, correct? Why/when would you choose exclude over fixed? I work with Tableau regularly but excited to take your classes as I understand the way you explain it!

    • @jellymaneducation6168
      @jellymaneducation6168  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Awww thanks. Yes that's correct. Depending on your skill with Tableau you can use any of the three depending on the situation.
      Personally, I always go for Fixed as a default just from a long term maintenance point of view. However, if I need more efficiency and cleanliness, I'll go exclude/include if I have too many fields to deal with.

      I specifically stated "Supra" because ,if i remember correctly, a Supra was on your computer desktop background.
      If that is correct then I was trying to make my comment more personable for you. To be be honest with you, I would tour Australia in a Toyota LandCruiser. I won't worry as much getting stuck as I tour the beaches and desert.

    Thanks for this excellent explanation of EXCLUDE LOD.
    I would like you to cover why FIXED LOD shows up with a SUM aggregation whereas INCLUDE and EXCLUDE LODs show up with ATTR around the field. It would be great if you could cover this in one of your videos.

    • @jellymaneducation6168
      @jellymaneducation6168  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Deepak, I'm not going to lie. I'm not the expert when it comes to the ATTR() functionality. Reason being it's never gotten in the way of my work. However, if you want to know the exact behind the scenes details, here is a great article on it. kb.tableau.com/articles/howto/when-to-use-the-attribute-attr-function

    Hello Jay, hope you do a video on the Fixed LOD.
    In the meantime, can you show how to take a total of all Orders from the Consumer Segment then divide it by the Total of Segments, comprised of Consumer, Corporate and Home-Office?

    • @jellymaneducation6168
      @jellymaneducation6168  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Will do! I've got a few more LODs coming including FIXED! Also for the example you requested, basically, using LOD to compare two calculations which are filtered differently. Correct?

    could you do the same thing with { FIXED [Category] : SUM( [Sales] ) }
    is that equivalent result to using EXCLUDE in this case ?
    edit: ok, I just tested it and it appears to give the same result -- I just don't see the use of EXCLUDE

    Hello
    May I ask a question? Is there any difference that compare to your last video if use "Fixed"?

  • @sjame11
    @sjame11 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hello @Jellyman Education , thanks so much for the video!! One question could we combine Fixed and IF formula? What I want to do is upload some numbers at arrival date to my datasource (these numbers donot exist in the data source so I want to add them manually), we have different values depending on the year and arrival month...so I would like to build a formula such as:...If [Year]= 2020 and Month( [Arrival month])= 1 then 22000.....as I have millons of lines in the data source, I was wondering if I can combine in with fixed formula...just to add these numbers at year and arrival month level and later on, get a subtotal for quarters....is that possible?
    thanks for your help and if you have a video on this would be great! thanks in advance
