There's a secret dream sequence in MGS3 exclusive on ps2 where you play a hack and slash mini game of sorts called Guy Savage. Nanobreaker came out a year after MGS3 was released and would eventually be used as spare parts for MGR. I remember thinking that it would be cool if this dream sequence had something to do with Raiden because you "run in" to his MGS3 counterpart moments before this dream sequence is accessible.

Honestly its like someone time travelled back in time after rising and made this game hoping it will blow up like rising. JAKE/JACK, that awsome scene with the blade reveal and electricty.
Nanobreaker is basically the MGR equivalent of the Contra franchise
I feel like the fact that I played a bunch of both Chaos Legion and this says something about who I was.

I loved Nanobreaker when it first dropped. Spent a good couple weeks unlocking everything and just fucking around. Granted I also really liked Chaos Legion when it came out.
This game is actually pretty fun to 100% if you're into hard games, playing as Jaguar from Neo Contra is probably the hardest thing ever in an IGA game, he has a tiny health bar.
I remember having fun with this. It actually inspired me in my concept writing more than I realized.
I actually had this growing up. Found it for cheap at a k-mart back then. Only thing I really remember is you can change the blood colors to rainbow

The only thing I remember about Nanobreaker is a review in OPS2 where they went on about how the blood was measured in gallons. Quality shit.
Nanobreaker is a somewhat interesting and oddball game within Konamis and IGA’s portfolio (as he was the producer of this game). It shared nearly identical gameplay to Castlevania Lament of Innocence as this game used a modified game engine of that game and the protagonist is even a bit similar to Leon Belmont in appearance. The odd thing is that this game was released in the same year as Castlevania Curse of Darkness (Nanobreaker in February and CV:CoD in November) as Hector plays nearly identical to Jake whenever he uses a sword weapon and in both games the protagonist have a rival character (Keith to Jake and Issac to Hector) that they fight multiple times in the story. It seems they took a lot of cues from this game when they got to finishing development on CV: CoD. I also like to think this game indirectly inspired Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance as it also shares a lot of traits with it, for all we know it could’ve been a indirect spiritual successor to Nanobreaker.
As goofy as that intro looked, there were some neat ideas in there!
Robots that look like little kids to trick soft, squishy, delicious humans; shooting the bigger ones just feeds the machines with the bullets, eating stuff around them as feed mass to create more nanobots.

Haha reminds me of better sci fi like “Second Variety” by Phillip K Dick, or the melding plague from Alastair Reynolds “Revelation Space” series. Speaking of which I should do a reread of those :)
In here to point out that in Yugioh, there is a card called Nanobreaker, which was based on this game. It is an old card from 2006.
This game is the culmination of my very weird history with the PS2. I went from having a PS1, N64 and DreamCast to never buying a PS2 until near the end of its life cycle. My first unit was a Mini, which I bought to get Katamari Damacy. From there, I bought a handful of titles, including FFX, which I played for maybe 2 hours, Yanya Cabalista, and SMT: Nocturne. I was working at a game store, and we got a demo disc for this. I actually pre-ordered Nanobreaker. I think that was basically all the games I ever owned for PS2.
You know what this game makes me think of? The "Guy Savage" demo in MGS3. The timeline almost fits up, and I wonder if it's running on a similar engine to that.

Oh dear God, I remember this game too. The blood was one of its few redeeming qualities
Now this is a blast from the past, I remember actually being hyped for this game just because I wanted a cyborg Castlevania game, I don't remember it being so slow but I remember enjoying it all the same.
I still love this game, no matter how awkward the combat was.
I only know of it from Yu-Gi-Oh! Since they do have a few cards based on their old franchises.
The concept behind this is actually pretty cool.
this is so weird, I was reminded of this game last night when I was going to bed, just an out of nowhere thought of "huh, what was that game called again? Nanobreaker?" so I looked up to make sure it wasn't a fever dream, satisfied my curiosity and went to bed, and now you do a video on it.
I actually didn't recognize this until that scene with the bullets being absorbed as they're shot into the Orgymegs.
After completing the game you unlock "Jaguar" from Contra
The only thing I know about this game is that there's a Yugioh card based on it.
It’s weird, too. The Metal Gear reference card’s character is clearly Solid Snake, but the Nanobreaker card is just… generic anime woman with final fantasy sword, for some reason, rather than any specific identifiable character from this game. The sword doesn’t even look like a high frequency- I mean a plasma sword.
7:40 - that first boss is totally a Sinspawn from Final Fantasy X, and you can't convince me otherwise.

When I was trying to do game streams I wanted to actually announce "We are going to play that Konami game with a white haired dude with a blade and nanomachines."
Psh, I've played this and Chaos Legion. Play E.O.E., Eve of Extinction, if you want a true unknown ps2 action game. That or Rygar. Or Extermination. Or Chain Dive, that was never released in the U.S. except for a magazine demo disc.
I still remember playing a demo of this thanks to the demo discs from the Official PlayStation magazine here in the U.K, could never find an actual copy of it though

I wanted this game as a kid and never got it, then I emulated it on my pic when I got older. Safe to say it’s good I didn’t get it when I was a kid XD
oh my god he even dives out of the plane like Snake jumping off the bridge in MGS2
It has the same battle system as Castlevania curse of darkness it was like a testing ground for the engine love this game beat it and get the rainbow blood so good
I played and beat both Nanobreaker and Chaos Legion! Even grinded out the ultimate summon in CL; after getting all the fragments you need a shit ton of kills to evolve it to the final form, so it's WAY worse than you think. I've relished in the bad, even as a child :P

I find this game to be a guilty pleasure of mine. I was actually looking forward to this game way back when. I purchased it for PS2, played through it, then never went through it again. It's good while having serious flaws. If it came out now, it could be a drastically better game. It just came out at the wrong time when we were far more limited on what we could do with the PS2. If Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, or this game were to come out today, they could be fantastic. We all know Konami sucks now, so that'll never happen. EDIT: I really do miss the days when Konami was good. :(
This game was a weird one in my collection. Shadow of the Colossus, DMC 3, Ape Escape 3, GTA SA and VC… Then Nano Breaker right at the end, gathering dust

This is a great surprise to see this game. It was painfully hard because of its scarce checkpoints and tough bosses. It was an achievement to complete this game.

Damn I played this game all the way through. Forgot most of this game and did think it was very drab in the environments. Oh and they also made a Yu-Gi-Oh card of Nanobreaker named Nanobreaker lol.
I would be down for some more Nanobreaker, it seems like one of those gifts that keeps on giving.

The color would also update immediately, so you could change the color in battle and have different colored "rainbow puke" all over the floor.

this reminds me a lot of the movie Gunhed (1988) where:
"During the year 2005, the Cybortech Company built one of the most

I thought i was the only person who knew this game. I beat it a single time and the only things i remember It had a really nice combo system and you could makke the blood any color, including rainbow.

I know Nanobreaker from a Gamepro or GameInformer magazine and I was all like "omg look at all that blood" in the screenshots with my dumb baby brain, but never got anywhere close to that game.
