Maybe the WRC could give these guys a chance in a real car?! 3

Stuff like this demonstrates why you need stages that are too long to easily memorize. Someone needs to make a modern Mobil 1 Rally.

YES, imagine, then, how REAL drivers like Sebastian Loeb and Ari Vatanen and many other drivers of REAL cars at REAL events are able to MEMORISE each REAL turn on REAL events such as Pikes Peak Hill Climb (12.42 miles (19.99 km) with over 156 turns) WITHOUT the assistance of a codriver. Simulations like the one shown become 'just games' after those considerations!
Nothing will truly replace REAL DRIVERS driving REAL CARS on REAL COURSES!

@@rallymaster001 Pikes Peak is shorter than the Nurburgring. You're telling me that when Vatanen won the Safari Rally in 1983, he had memorized all 1,007 miles of it? GTFO of here. Even in modern rallying, where they do the central service area, you're looking at 200 miles of stages. If they were memorizing them, they'd ditch the co-drivers to save weight.
The longest rally in WRC10 is Japan at 14 miles. 28 if you count driving it reversed. The other stages in that country are just chopped up sections of that one stage. If you do a realistic length rally, you spend an hour and a half driving the same thing over and over.
In Belgium there is one 7.4mi stage. You drive it over and over, mostly in smaller sections forwards and backwards, for less than an hour in a full-length rally. The real 2021 rally was 184 miles and the winner finished in 2.5 hours. And that's a short rally, even by modern standards. The shakedown in real life was 6.1 miles long, that's almost a WRC10 epic stage.

@@jasonmoyer Thank you for your reply. I did not watch the video through its entirety, due to my general lack of interest in rally simulations. My involvement in the sport dates back to 1990, sitting in REAL cars next to REAL drivers as a REAL navigator/codriver in local, state and national level gravel and asphalt events here in Australia.
I am unsure of your involvement in the sport and I do not aim to insult you by talking down to you.
Typically at a REAL rally, crews compete once or twice over the same stage during an event, sometimes in reverse direction. This allows for the minimum of roads being used while reducing the need for so many officials to close the roads off and to conduct these stages. Your statement 'If you do a realistic length rally, you spend an hour and a half driving the same thing over and over' is not quite correct as it infers that they continually drive through it.
Similar to sims, REAL drivers at SOME EVENTS have the opportunity to drive through the stages AT NORMAL ROAD SPEED noting the curves, road conditions, etc.. on their notes, prior to competition, however this is typically done only two or three times along each road just prior to the actual event. In most rallies during my involvement this has not been the case,. Typically these are called 'blind rallies' where no prior knowledge of where the actual course goes, which heightens the challenge of navigating and passing quickly through the stage as fast as possible. Navigators plot the route onto maps or read the road book instructions to the driver. Therefore the driver needs the navigator to tell him where to turn, in what direction to head, where to turn, etc. This is the challenge (and use) for the navigator, otherwise I'd be out of a job/ride!
Please re read my initial post. I did not quote the Nurburgring which I know IS longer than Pikes Peak, nor did I quote Vatanen's win at the Safari Rally in 1983. I referred specifically to Pikes Peak which, technically, could be likened to a special stage on a modern rally, especially to some conducted on long distance events.
In the cases of Vatenen in the Peugeot 405 Turbo 16 mostly on gravel at the 1988 Pikes Peak International Hillclimb and Loeb in the Peugeot on asphalt in 2013, both drivers had the opportunity to predrive its 12.42 miles (19.99 km) and its 156 turns. Without a navigator they HAD to memorise the course!
Now, concerning the Nurburgring: Currently it has 12.7 miles and 73 bends which WEC drivers drive over constantly during races such as the annual 24 hours race, therefore drivers get to memorise the circuit, as racers do on other tracks, from Formula Ford to F1. According to her own estimates, the late great 'Queen of the 'Ring', Sabine Schmitz went around the track more than 20,000 times until her untimely death last year. I'm sure she could almost have done it blindfolded!
Unfortunately, simulations are the main/only way for most people to experience some of the thrills of this type of spirited driving. In these cases, users can drive the course MANY times over and when they crash they simply start again. This is typically NOT what REAL crews experience!
Sadly, with the current social and political climates, REAL rallying is becoming difficult: closing of forestry tracks and around /through villages (in Europe) for these events, political borders on lengthy events covering different regions/countries, climate change concerns, etc. Sadly, in the future, these simulations may be the only way to experience some of the thrills of REAL rallying, however I believe that my point still stands: Nothing will truly replace REAL DRIVERS (and REAL navigators/ codrivers) driving REAL CARS on REAL RALLY COURSES!
Have a great day! Regards from Australia!
The late great Queen of the 'Ring,

@@rallymaster001 Not everyone has the opportunity to sit in a rally car, so games like this are as close as it gets for most people.

@@wilhufftarkin8543 Yes, you are correct in your thinking.. Sadly, that is the case for most people. I KNOW that I've been lucky to be able to actually compete, ewven luckier that I've been able to sit beside some very talented drivers on some very demanding courses. At least these games are giving many people a bit of the taste of real rallying! Have you rallied in a real car? I hope you get the opportunity some time. Good luck!

It was surprising how much of a difference the on-board camera made. Sure, the sound is awful, and the graphics aren't great, but it shows that it would probably help to have a better and more dynamic chase cam, if you decide to have one at all
