Love this! Will call it "Developers Pyramid" and teach the kids how to play. I'll keep idiot out of the name - I don't want them to see losing as idiotic. Its just about learning and having fun; not about judgement and labelling. Especially with the kids
@@SolitaireWithTheCardGuy Haha, yes. If only that term (mindset) had stayed in the 30s! It is alive and well... but doesn't need passing on to my kids or by me to anyone lol. In similar vein, I'd look at card pack design. I'd have 2 Jacks and 2 Janets not 4 Jacks etc. Girls just as much as boys, i mean. The Jacks being what matters date back to priorities/ thinking that is now very dated - in the Western world at least Personally I'm getting Gold, Silver, Bronze packs for the kids instead of King, Queen, Jack I think. Keep King > Queen out of it as that's not valid any more
I find this game delightful! Especially enjoy the sfx and Stooges reference. Fun Fact: Editors often have assorted unused clips at the end of their timeline when finished and refer to this collection of outtakes as "the boneyard".
This game feels like a good path to FreeCell, which I have seen but not played. This game seems to have much in common with FreeCell, specifically 1. manoeuvring visible cards individually, 2. using "free areas - cells or columns strategically to do that manoeuvring. Indeed the FreeCell rule that you can move blocks of cards 1 bigger in total than the number of free cells applies to free columns in this game even if not formally stated in the vid...
This game looks great but I can’t find rules for this game anywhere. Were those rules published but the United States Playing Card Company in 1950 also? When I look up idiots delight I find three very different games: Aces Up (Drivel Patience/Firing Squad version), King Albert, and Perpetual Motion. However I also read “idiots delight” is a a pejorative term for any patience or card solitaire. Does this game have an alternative name?
I found this version of Idiots Delight in a card game book by Vernon Quinn published 1933. It's described as a simplified version of the game "according to Hoyle." Unfortunately no other game names were provided.
I dont understand one part. On my tableu I dealt a 3 of spades and with a 7 of hearts on top of that. Can I move a black 6 thats also on the tableu on top of that or do I have to have the top card count up. If you understand my question
I believe I understand your question. Yes you can take an uncovered black 6 from the tableau and place it on an uncovered red 7 also on the tableau. Remember: you build up in suit on the ace foundations, and you build down in alternating colors on the tableau. Hope that helps. Thanks for the note!
Is there another name for this game? When I Google Idiots Delight most of the other versions are quite different. Just trying to find more info. Thanks!
@@Serenitynow1027 Thanks for writing! I bet this version is tough to find as I found it in a card playing book published in the 1930’s. Maybe it fell out of favor! Still fun though …
I'm really taken with this game. The early moves are a great brain teaser as they need to be smart and after that, if they are dine right, its faster and easier to complete a win. Does anyone have a sense of how much you win (with experienced/ good play)? I'm fairly confident it is not every time. It feels like you win more often than you lose from a bit of playing... perhaps 2 out of 3 games ???
Can u take a entire run and put it on another card? First example you have a queen in one place and a jack , 10 and a 9 in a nother space. So could you take the jack with the cards below it and put it on the queen?
Yo card guy can you please do a game that is exactly a 50/50 i know u prob wont do one but please create a vid about a solitare that is 50/50 . If u dont i still love the chanel and u make my day so much better either way uploading . Please never quit bye bye !!
It sure can be lost! But good tactics (e g. keeping plenty of free spaces to work in) makes it winnable. I think it's a great way for those developing card skills to learn tactical thinking (by learning themselves and/or being given tips etc. I'm using it with my kids for sure
Such a satisfying and simple game! Thank you for the demo!
But of course!

@@duncanellis4632 Great call. This game I found in a booklet from the 30’s. Nowadays we can retire the term. Enjoy! Let me know if the kiddos like it.

FreeCell is excellent. Check out my tutorial on it, and for a fun variation try penguin!

Hey card guy, i want a game with 2 decks that is short, fun and a bit complicated.
@@Nate_Gaming47 Excellent suggestion. I have a 1 pack game in the works now, but why not a 2 packer next!!
For now, give this one a try. Fun to-lay and addictive!
