The best pennant race in my lifetime. In 1965 they were 40 games back...in 1966 they were 26 games back...in 1967 they won the pennant on the last day of the season!!! Loved this team as a kid!!! Still do!!!
Jim, It was the best pennant race in baseball history, period. With 5 games left in the regular season, 4 of the 10 teams - *40% of the teams in the league* - were in a virtual tie for first place. On the very last day of the season, three of the teams could have ended up as pennant winners. This was completely unprecedented in baseball history. Never before were so many teams so closely packed at so late a point in the season. With the advent of divisional play in 1969, and then the wild card, we will never see anything like it again. That 1967 season was pure magic.
poor tony c....and you wonder why I rooted for David Rogers and the Dodgers this year. I am so sick of 16-26 year old brats in pink hats bitching that it was two long since 2013 since we won a series!!! Good lawd almighty!
I was in Vietnam during the 1967 season but letters from home kept me updated on how the Sox were doing, My Tour ended on 6 July and my new duty station became Ft Stewart, Ga where I was able to follow the rest of the Red Sox season and eventual World Series.
The voice of Ken Coleman brings back so many great memories. I grew up in Maine and loved the Red Sox. I wrote a letter to Ken after reading his book, "Diary of a Sportscaster". He wrote back and said to come see him at the Radio Booth and he would sign it for me. He did. What a great memory. I actually have some old radio broadcast of the games. I will post them when I find them.
I just found this vynil album in my dad's old collection. He passed 20yrs ago and I had no idea what it was. Just started going through the stuff he left.
My best friend growing up had this album. We use to play it from time to time in his bedroom. He had it all memorized. I had most of it. Just hearing it brings the phrasing all back to me. "At times he seemed mistaken the team had hit the skids But they sounded attack and came battling back. They called them the cardiac kids"
Isn’t it still kind of painful though that despite clinching on the final day of the year that they still didn’t win in the end ? Granted maybe it helped 2004 feel so good
Loved this team and Yaz too. The Bambino curse had not yet been lifted. Listened to the games on my 6 transistor radio. We had such great imaginations. My dad would take us to Boston to see the Sox. Didn't have a TV.
As a seventh grader, this was as close to heaven as I ever got. I recall staying up way past my bedtime listening to the late games broadcast from Anaheim. This was probably August, during the heat of the pennant race. I'd have to look this up because I was hanging on every pitch, trying to keep the volume low on my radio so that I wouldn't keep my parents awake.
During the ‘67 Series, the nuns set up a tv in one of the classrooms. The boys and nuns stayed inside and watched the game and the girls played outside. Also had this album and a signed Jim Lonborg ball. Now watching Yaz’s grandson play out in Nor Cal.
I had to learn it word by word for my Grandfather. And I did. 67. 75. 78. 91 (when Roger got thrown out for being, well the asshole that Roger Clemens was), God almight 1986; 2003. FINALLY: 2004 was Nirvana!
Seen my 1st drunk guy walking to Fenway (my dad always had to park a mile away)the guy on the sidewalk. That was big when you’re a kid.A couple of years later, Bobby Orr, seen live.
Jeeze louise. compare these Ned and Ken to the two nitwits that called the 2018 series for Fox. Well, it is Fox, and the calling did suck. PS. my teeth were Xrayed and cleaned by Lonborg, who last I heard was a dentist in scituate Mass. And you think I didn't feel sick to my stomach to see A-Rod/Roid sitting up there. Gag me man. Gag me.
Ned Martin & Ken Coleman were great!!! Unlike the dopes who chatter on about nothing...laughing & giggling! as so called announcers! I had the chance to meet both of them and thank them for their work on radio!

I always answer Blonde on Blonde when asked my favorite album, but this truly might be.

"And he dives, and he makes a tre-MENDOUS catch!!!! The greatest catch you've ever seen by Yastrzemski in left field..."
Best season baseball has ever seen.... If the Sox Lost just one of those games out it 162 it wouldn't have been

67' Red Sox Nation begins
Poor Tony C. Had that tragedy not have occurred, the Red Sox would have won the world series for sure.
What a season!!

Does anyone have the 1975 album? I played that constantly as a kid and made me a true Sox fan.
Was that album called THE SUPER SOX of 75?
@@johnnguyen270 I think so. I was very young then.....
