the purpose for a lot of the out of bound area is simply to have a backdrop so that if your looking out from lets say the top of death mountian it is meant to look like there is more than just hyrule and yes it takes that much space to make it convincing.
now the "infinite" ocean I'm pretty sure is a bug as a result of the world trying to constantly change the water textures and an attemp to do it in such a way that doesnt seem like a grid pattern. another part of that is later the day night cycle dynamic textures

This can easily be debunked just by comparing their channels. Mety is spreading false info. He wants all the viewers for himself, even at the expense of other TotK creators. Spread the word!!

It would have been so trolling from nintendo to add a little colision at the beginning of the "exterior" and a sign that reads something like "to Labrynnia" or "to Holodrum" or something like that. Awesome video btw, I'm amazed of how big it is and the PATIENCE to explore like that for SO many hours.

I don't understand why some people are apparently confused about what's beyond the map of Hyrule. I would totally expect there to be other lands and probably other kingdoms. First of all, it's not Planet Hyrule, it's just a kingdom on an earth-like planet. In some of the lore from the early games Link is said to come to Hyrule from somewhere outside the kingdom. His uncle, I think, asks him if it's his first time to Hyrule. So, I've always thought there were other places in this world besides Hyrule. I have a feeling it'll continue to get fleshed out as the series progresses. It's definitely fun to speculate, though, and this video was a fun exercise in that regard.

after comparing, going to totk's highest sky island..... yep. they definetly changed the continent. the easiest thing to notice is, if you look south of gerudo desert, in botw there was a small island. in totk it's a peninsula. also this might be a stretch but i feel that to the north of the entire continent, there used to be a peninsula but it kinda looks like an island now? also was a huge island south of the continent but it kinda looks a bit bigger and connected to the main continent now
