    Many time I put the scrim of the reflector in front of a window. Amazing Quality! Both direct sunlight or overcast light look great!

    I often forget that was one of first accessories I bought, need to start using it for bounce, diffuser and negative fill, one great use is in daylight for music videos

  • @DARKLYLIT
    @DARKLYLIT 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great info Caleb. I rarely think about negative fill and it's easy to think "okay, that looks well lit". There's so much more character we can add to our lighting if we give it a bit of thought so thanks for mentioning it. Cheers!

    Great vid.
    Also.... use the black as negative fill to increase contrast in otherwise flat lighting. Use the diffusion to reduce the effect of a sunny backlight, while using the white as a super soft return. Avoid using the gold for a hard sun return, instead, use it to return a little warmth in a north light situation, to help balance out light temp on skin tones. Get two, they're absolute essentials, and practice folding them so you don't look like a newbie wedding assistant. 4:44.... that's some creepy reflector love!

    • @dslrvideoshooter
      @dslrvideoshooter  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Patrick! All good points. Love me some gold!

    • @memathews
      @memathews 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Solid mentions. The gold also balances the cold cloudy sky light, or heavy tree shade green, and can add a slight warmth to reflected LED light to give a candlelight or firelight effect.

    Any suggestions on how to hook in a reflector to a light stand (I have Manfrotto with the spigot on top usually used for lights) - something I can clip it to as a one man band instead of hiring a 2nd person just to hold it - I purchased a 5-in-1 which i thought had a 1/4" screw in the handle but it was falsely advertised, otherwise I'd be able to just screw it into the spigot.

    This is the 43-inch reflector. Amazon is showing now in 2019 a “new” version of 32”.
    My question: 32” or 43” for regular videography, events, outdoors, etc.?
    Please advise.🙏

    Why are all reflectors manufactured to have ether black and silver or white and gold (once you turn it inside out)? I'd rather have black and white or silver and gold as possible front and back sides. Does anyone know brands where it is manufactured in that combination?

    quick question, I'm taking tshirt pictures with my phone, but even with 2 softboxes, the plain white shirt is a darker gray in some area. Do I only do it in a dark room with no light coming in or is it because the phone's camera makes it dark and I should use a DSLR instead? thank you so much (:

  • @bluefilmsltd

    One thing I don't understand is why most DPs don't use the black side of the 5 in 1 reflector as a cheap and effective flag??? The official flagging stuff is unreasonable expensive yet it's cheaper to just get a few stands and 5 in 1 reflectors? Help me out, Caleb.

    The thing preventing me from buying these is that I only need white and maybe black. I don't need gold reflectors, silver reflectors, I just need diffusion. It's frustrating that I can't buy these separately.

    Hey man! Why did you breeze over the gold and silver reflectors? That was the whole reason I watched this. I wanted to know the best uses for those two. You did a great job describing the other 3 uses. Still a good video and you get a thumbs up.

    Hey Caleb, great info as always, I also really liked the way you added informational overlays of prices on your $500 light tutorial in the upper left corner. I would love to see more informational overlays throughout your videos, I found them quite useful! Thanks for what you do!

    Hey Caleb, love your videos and enjoy gaining so much knowledge from them. I wanted to ask a question knowing it's off topic with regards to this video. However I wanted to ask you a question pertaining to vintage lenses and adapters. I have the Panasonic G85 and I have a few vintage lenses - some with a Pentax K mount and others with a Canon FD mount. I want to buy the Zhongyi lens turbo II focal reducer however do not want to buy 2 of them as they aren't cheap. What do you suggest so that I can use both lens mounts with the focal reducer??? Thank you in advance.
