The difference is that in Slayers, all the main heroes are of comparable strength. So while it is oftentimes Lina who delivers the killing blow due to her exceptional black magic, it's thanks to everybody's combined efforts that they're able to win most of their major battles. As opposed to something like Dragon Ball or Bleach, where the other heroes are basically just buying time for the main character to show up.
I believe I heard one of the issues they ran into with the anime's longevity (which is also why Try, and I believe Revolution-R as well had original storylines) was because they wanted to keep the four main characters as Lina, Gourry, Amelia, and Zelgadis, but Amelia and Zelgadis are only prominent in the early arcs of the original books and mangas. So the anime basically ran out of solid source material unless they were to abandon those two characters, which they didn't want to do. Assuming, that is, that what i recall hearing was actually correct. It's something I heard a long time ago, so I could be mistaken, or forgetting certain important details.
That's not exacly right. Phibrizo said that double Dragon Slave could deal a severe damage even to Mazoku as powerful as him. But basically Ragnablade is much more convenient to use. And it hits even on Astral Plane.

But in Lina´s group only her is able to cast dragon slave so doing that is not posible.
