    Thank you for your comments.
    It was pointed out to me today that Olympian Sam Mikulak is promoting your video on his FB page. For me his support by definition is the final word on the issue in-so-far as he represents and represents directly a thousand plus years of tradition and practice experienced by Olympic level athletes from around the world.
    My support or lack thereof is just so much low amplitude white noise when compared to Mikulak's.
    Have a great spring semester.

    The fact that this team would go on to win the big ten and ncaa championships that exact season makes this video 1000x greater

    Congratulations to the University of Michigan men's gymnastics team, the 2013 national champions! Sam Mikulak won his 2nd all-around national title, and Adrian de los Angeles finished 2nd in the all-around competition. Sam's only a junior, so Michigan will be in good shape to make a run for the 2014 national title as well, its 6th national title in men's gymnastics & its 3rd national title in 5 years. Go Blue!

    This is really good! You guys had a high bar fall hahaha! that's crazy. I actually had a high bar break in between my hands doing a dismount at Illinois. Half the Bar went through my roommates arm. Crazy day. Best of luck this season.

    Wow, tough to pick a favorite...as a former gymnast and current high school coach, I frequently can't watch this kind of thing, as it's put together by people that don't know the sport, or other crash videos, as they just make me cringe. This, on the other hand...was art! Again, from my viewpoint...some, nay, most, of these hurt, but not for long. Two high bars breaking? wow! And...I will be showing part of it to my kids as a lesson to finish the skill. Less injury occurs that way. Nice video.

  • @Mgymnast
    @Mgymnast 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    It's not an issue of "poor risk management protocols" it's just a risk of the sport. Equipment failures are also an unavoidable risk. There is no negligence, and I am positive that no one will be suing for injuries. Most of the falls in the video did not result in injury anyway.

    This is an awesome montage, but why did you use video of recording a tv playing the footage? You should make a high quality version with the actual footage.

    No way, most gymnasts are superior athletes to football players, but Michigan has a legendary football program. That may be why it gets more attention & support. However, the ice hockey and men's swimming & diving teams are the greatest all-time programs in IA. The football program is the all-time, most winning program with 11 national titles (not the most), but the hockey and men's swimming & diving programs have the most national titles of all programs in IA. They should receive more support.

    uh, okay. but no one is losing a finger, hand, toe or foot here. Apples to apples. Even with regular equipment maintenance, and spring floor rotation, you will get "dead spots," equipment can and will fail, accidents will happen. no one is talking about sitting back and waiting for equipment to fall apart. The video was a collection of many years of practice footage This program is the 2013 national champions. If these kids need a personal injury lawyer it's not going to be because of negligence

  • @gpackwood1
    @gpackwood1 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I had no idea the U of Michigan needed to De-Market their men's gymnastic program by showcasing poor risk management protocols for student athletes. Especially the high bar collapse which we were allowed to see ... twice!
    U of M donors, physicians & the AD must be thrilled to see this video record of negligence made available for a world wide audience.
    Perhaps UM risk management. professionals can take on the job of traffic control as personal injury lawyers begin to circle the gym.

    I'm sure you have received MANY replys to this comment.. This is a competitive gym, equipment fails... all the time. Spend a year in a NCAA training facility and count how many mats slip, springs pop, boards break, bars collapse... They put that equipment through hell.. But its part of the game. always has been, and with the sport getting more intense... there is and will always be risk. Don't like it? Put your kid in bowling..

  • @camellane33

    It's not a promo video, but it's unique. I don't like that the men's gymnastics team, which won the national title this year and its 2nd national championship in 4 years, is using this as a promotional video. Michigan excels at sports other than football, ice hockey, & basketball. At least the gymnastics team is getting some support. Please, the men's swimming & diving team won an unprecedented 19th national title this season, and there are hardly any fans on their threads. That's unacceptable.

    Well Gary,
    You should realize that these videos were taken over a long period of time, not all in a week. If you were to put a camera in any NCAA gymnastics training facility, very similar videos could be made. Falling and equipment failure is part of gymnastics and can be an everyday occurrence; any gymnast will agree. If you believe this is negligence, you clearly aren't a gymnast nor do you know much about the sport. Please take your negativity elsewhere because clearly its not wanted here.

    Oh Yes I have indeed received many MANY comments that I won't soon forget.
    Your comment here reads the same as the justification years ago in the 1930's for factory workers losing finger, hands, toes and feet. It was just part of the job. Or at least it was until the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration and put a stop to that nonsense.
    Today if you have equipment that you know will fail you are in violation of the law.
    And as an aside, risk is a modifying word. Not a noun.

    what in gods name are you talking about? you must not know very much about gymnastics if you think making mistakes is sheer negligence. this is a video meant for having a laugh at because some of these falls are a little humorous. every gym has falls and equipment failures like this, U of M is just able to make some fun out of it. if anything, "donors, physicians, and AD's" should be happy that their gymnastics handle their failures well. Don't comment on a topic you have no knowledge on

  • @WsvanWijk
    @WsvanWijk 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Oh Boo-Hoo......Get over it, gymnasts fall, that has nothing to do with negligence or "poor risk management". Taking risks and falling is part of the game without it there is no progress.

    Now tell me again how gymnastics is gay and easy, and that football is superior.
