Your doing good things Jamie. You speaking out about sparring is big. I love and agree whole hearted. You really don't have to be stuptified to become a great fighter. - blessings2u brother

I really hope he rests and fully heals up for a year or 2, and if he feels better than ever and is training really smart then maybe he'll think about stepping back in the Octagon. Dude's such a beast and he's in his prime, would be such a loss to the MMA world not to see this guy do what we all know he can.

UFC employing Jamie Varner so he doesn't potentially start a fighter's union lol. Smart tactics.

blackhog42 after you get so many concussions and blows to the head you cant really heal from he just doesnt want to slur and wants to know where he is when he gets older.

***** I posted that before he came out and talked about his sparring wars with big guys in training and that he's actually had some scary signs of damage with speech and memory etc, now I think he definitely made the right choice. Still such a shame

He calls going 70% 'light sparring', haha! I'd call 70% quite hard sparring. I've been classes where we went 90-100%, but people would get KO'ed almost every week which was really stupid. It lowers your testosterone and slows down your reflexes as well as your overall brain function. I think full speed sparring at 25-50% power twice a week, and hard sparring at 70-80% power once a fortnight is good.

Yeah, sparring too much can ruin a fighter. I’ve seen it first hand.
