I actually bought this on amazon after watching your review. It turned out to be extremely enjoyable and a game I wish I owned as a kid. Keep up the great reviews man. EDIT: I got it about two weeks ago and beat all best laps/mirror cups & championship, still play a race or two daily. Its just addictive.
Wow... Thanks for the review. I saw some great gameplay while you have your pros and cons about it. If not for you, I would've never seen/known about this game. I'm a huge racing fan. I'm definitely picking this up!!!!
Hey Mr Plant! Love your channel and I am quickly working my way through each and every video. When you've covered all N64 games, whats next? Gamecube Series or perhaps Super Nintendo? Thanks for the vids!
It does look very much like Sega Rally, some of the tracks look quite similar to both Sega Rally 1 and 2 (was 2 out that long for them to have played it?) But rally games, I was forever picking them out of the Blockbuster ex-rental bins as they'd always be dirt cheap (excuse the pun) like a fiver each, and some had only just come out, so no one ever rented rally games it seems.
Yeah I remember v rally specially being on sale for half price at blobs video the weekend after it came out. Won't be making rental money back at all on rally games
***** Oh, V-Rally was a staple of ex-rental bins. It's like some kind of unwritten law that every bin had to have at least one copy of V-Rally in it. That and a PS2 copy of Red Faction.
I checked this game out yesterday on my PC and had a good time in the arcade mode. Didn't take me long to get the gold trophies. I found out that spamming the brake button when taking big turns really helps to avoid hitting the walls. Later today I'm gonna do the championship mode. Btw the reflections look awesome.
Go!...Go,Go,Go. haha, good times with this one back then. I always chose the SEAT primarily because it looked so cool and couldn't be found anywhere in North America.
How dare you mention this game and Sega Rally in the same breath!! Just shows what an achievement Sega Rally was, on the Saturn and realised 4 years earlier. I didn't realise this was a sequel to MRC though....think I have this on my Everdrive so may give it a bash.
I actually think this game is ok. It`s probably as close to Sega Rally as rally game could legally be on N64. Too bad Rally Masters was cancelled for N64...
Great review, I played this shortly after watching and this game 100% has that pick up and play factor. With. 64 games now (generally) available cheaply (particularly unboxed) the last ability of a game is less important. That wasn’t the case when I was a lad and having to drop £50 on a game 😅
What is terrifying is there are some Switch racing games that look like this just in HD. Because some game devs/publishers have no shame. Also motion blur is the devil. Always.
For me, just the Controls/Driving Physics alone put this Game into the List of the best Racers of that Time. Colin McR. 2 looked better, others had bettet Tracks, but the drifting in this one here feels very satisfying. Cars handle different and i see why People crash into the Walls, but if you knew when to hit the Brakes with each Car, you could slide through the turns left and right and it felt great. Looks good in 4k on Emulators. The Reflections are one of a kind. I still prefer this on a Gaming Day over a modern Borefest like FM. Its also better than the Top Gears which handle awfull in comparison. V Rally 64 was bad. The only 2 other real Options on the N64 would be WDC and RR64. Or the F1 Games of course.
I think it’s nuts so many people have either never heard of this title or overlook it simply thinking it’s like MRC or VRally when there’s actually so much differentiating it from those titles
Graphics-wise, Rally Challenge 2000 isn't bad. Each car looks different from each other and most of them look very nice. Sadly, the courses you race on look extremely bland.
I recently played this for the first time using the Everdrive 64 and it has quickly become one of more favourite N64 racers. It does have that arcade drifting feel of Sega Rally. Possibly Genki's best racing game?
I do like the Kaido Racer games on PS2, but I agree they didn't seem to make many great games. Thanks for the Everdrive64 video review btw. I would never have played Rally Challenge without it.
The announcer in this game sounds like he's whispering everything he says. I found the handling weird. There was no need for the brake button and you simply had to use hard turning without acceleration to get around corners. Still, like you said, Glenn, there's something addictive about it.
I've never played this game, with all the racers I have on the N64 I probably wouldn't go out of my way to get this but would pick it up for cheap if I found it in the wild.
This game seems to be a nice one but I think Top Gear Rally 2 was awesome and maybe the best rally game on the console. Very hard also. You should review that game as well! Cheers Glenn!
I'm sad that no quality rally games like Colin Mcrae never made it to the 64. All of the rally games on the 64 just feel like budget titles with bad physics.
Maybe it's just me, but this just looks like another one of those generic racers on the N64. There are SO many racing games for the system, it's crazy!
And even MORE confusing is the Rally Championship series for PC! I reviewed one of those (shameless, shameless plug) back in my shitty/early days. ;) Love Rally racing. Very strange for someone as American as I am.
The Examined Life (of Gaming) we have the perfect weather and scenery for rally racing in europe so its popular on the continent, even here in Britain too
if you enjoyed this game, maybe consider giving some of Genki`s other racers a try. Tokio Extreme Racer for the dreamcast or ps2, or Import tuner challenge on the xbox360 are all extremely fun, addictive and deep arcade style racers. These are my favourite racing games, and for a long time I couldn't really enjoy other racers because they just couldn't compare.
I bought this game a few years back just based on it's graphics alone. When I popped it in I didn't really know what to think honestly. I seemed to be enjoying it ok even though the co driver sounds like he's taking a dump when calling out directions. There is something that is just flat about this game. The control doesn't seem to be as free and lose as it should be. Overall it's capable of being enjoyed if your options are limited, but I have racing games that are way more worthy of my time than this one.
Aaaa grasias este videojuego es mega grandioso ya qu no se puede emular en android solo sparecen llantas sin coche solo si tienes un n64 o tienes un emulador de n64 muy bueno o potente grasias rally challenge 2000
Yeah it really is, anyways thanks for the content its great to see videos from the 5th gen as i was a N64 owner back then and also play alot of saturn nowadays.. sad to see alot of ppl overlook this gen and make it sounds like alot these games are unplayable because of the early 3D graphics.
Emandudeguyperson He's right man. Multi Racing Championship is easily one of the most fun, and best handling racing games on the N64. It's incredibly well made, and its only real huge drawback is it's lack of tracks, but throw in a racing wheel / pedals and you have what's easily a top shelf racing experience for the system, hands down.
I'm impressed by the car models and the reflections on the windows.
The reason it reminds us of Sega Rally is because some of Genki's employees were former employees of Sega.
KT Johnson well thats a damn good point!
I actually bought this on amazon after watching your review.

Thanks for letting me know - always cool to hear people refind games from
Their childhood
Man that Golf Sony Rally car is so nostalgic, I used to rent this game when I was a little kid with my N64, I actually had fun with this game.
Ahh, I love these reviews...these have led me to several N64 game purchases within the past few months. Great stuff man!
Cool to know Brandon! Glad I could help!
Hey Glenn, just curious. What are your top 5 N64 racing games?
This was a common rental for us. Race games were some of the only games my brother could beat me at and he was damn good at them.
Wow... Thanks for the review. I saw some great gameplay while you have your pros and cons about it. If not for you, I would've never seen/known about this game. I'm a huge racing fan. I'm definitely picking this up!!!!
Such a shame this didnt get a release here!! it looks fun and wanted to try it :(
Never played this one, your footage make it seems like it worth a try, but I've always been disapointed by rally games on N64.
I - CANT- WAIT!! till you do WORLD DRIVER CHAMPIONSHIP!
Top notch review. Love your commentary.
Spicy Karl Assessment thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it
Hey Mr Plant! Love your channel and I am quickly working my way through each and every video. When you've covered all N64 games, whats next? Gamecube Series or perhaps Super Nintendo? Thanks for the vids!
I never knew MRC had a sequel... This just blew my mind! I must get this!!! 🦄🦄🦄
Had this game and MRC as a kid, but never knew 2000 was the sequel.
Rally Challenge 2000 is a great Racing game in the same level as Sega Rally and overall the best rally-racing game on the N64
I like it, very fun nd easy to pick up and play
@@n64glennplant code cheat pik up

I remember this and it looks to be a lot of fun but I do agree that the fog in this game is not that good great review Gleen ^_^
Rally 99 and 2000 are the same game, it wasn't a prequel, it just came out in Japan and NA first.
Yeah it is quite illogical why this game wasn't released in Europe considering the popularity of rally games here...
Bonito juego siempre m gusto gracias a rally 2000 pase horas de diversion es de los mejores cartuchos del n64
Go!...Go,Go,Go. haha, good times with this one back then. I always chose the SEAT primarily because it looked so cool and couldn't be found anywhere in North America.
I played this religiously.
You finally mentioned it.
Marry me.
UndeadAirwaves haha its cool to know there are people that like this game too!
@n64 Glenn Plant
Am I crazy or can I not find your MRC review?
Not reviewed yet 👍
How dare you mention this game and Sega Rally in the same breath!! Just shows what an achievement Sega Rally was, on the Saturn and realised 4 years earlier.
I didn't realise this was a sequel to MRC though....think I have this on my Everdrive so may give it a bash.
Lord Maximus give it a try....im sure you'll have it on your ED. if you play it with the sound off and squint....it may, just may look like it :)
And sing "game over yeaaaa" when the time runs out
as a big Sega rally fan I actually had more fun with this than the Saturn version of that game.
been a hard segarally player i never knew of this game (EU), and se how the car handles it do reminds me of that titel
Does anybody have a clue how to save the progress in the arcade mode?
BTW, Rally Challenge 2000 introduced me to the Seat, Skoda, and Proton brands. Wish their cars could be sold in the US...
Good review :)
@N64 Glenn Plant I love Codemasters Colin McRae Dirt, BigBen’s WRC Series And V-rally 4
1:00 Errr the Japanese Rally Challenge 99 and the US Rally Challenge 2000 are the exact same game.
Capsuledragon same game but there are graphical differences between the two
I actually think this game is ok. It`s probably as close to Sega Rally as rally game could legally be on N64. Too bad Rally Masters was cancelled for N64...

Also motion blur is the devil. Always.
Sega Rally, and Touring Car Championship both look far better than this, except for the windows reflections. The N64 SHOULD have used CD.
I quite liked it as a cart system
If it would have used CD some of the effects would take even more time to process and would result on very long loading times and slow-paced games
Slow loading times, scratched discs, noisy drive, no thanks
Imagine asking your parents for Mobil 1 Rally Championship (which was also sold under the name Rally Championship 2000) and getting this instead.
the only rally racer game i really enjoyed is Colin MacRae rally 2 (ps1)
For me, just the Controls/Driving Physics alone put this Game into the List of the best Racers of that Time. I'd think it is too, they aren't known for many great games but this is one of their better ones
I do like the Kaido Racer games on PS2, but I agree they didn't seem to make many great games. Thanks for the Everdrive64 video review btw. I would never have played Rally Challenge without it.
have you heard of a game called automobili Lamborghini?
Yes I've already reviewed that
Damnit I have so many more of your vids to watch I'm only quarter the way through
Great game.
The announcer in this game sounds like he's whispering everything he says.
I found the handling weird. There was no need for the brake button and you simply had to use hard turning without acceleration to get around corners.
Still, like you said, Glenn, there's something addictive about it.
I remember renting this back in the day. It was ok, not really anything special but it wasn't horrible either.
Yeah it's like so many games it's just meh
I've never played this game, with all the racers I have on the N64 I probably wouldn't go out of my way to get this but would pick it up for cheap if I found it in the wild.
That's the right idea with this one!
Your explanation of the co driver was hilarious XD hope you are well bid :-)
you too guys! you need to head back to youtube!
brill review Glenn, not played this one though, but if it plays like sega rally that cant be bad!
TootyUk its quite quite as good but the controls and courses etc are very similar in style
Best rally game ever is Power Drive Rally on the mighty Jaguar!
I'd love to give this game a try, but if it wasn't released in Europe, then I'm fucked :/
Good content
This game seems to be a nice one but I think Top Gear Rally 2 was awesome and maybe the best rally game on the console. Very hard also. You should review that game as well! Cheers Glenn!
André Araujo i still need to do top gear rally one first :)
I will try to do it soon :-)
I'm sad that no quality rally games like Colin Mcrae never made it to the 64. All of the rally games on the 64 just feel like budget titles with bad physics.

Skyler744 yeah theres a ton, some good some bad, some like this - mediocre
And even MORE confusing is the Rally Championship series for PC! I reviewed one of those (shameless, shameless plug) back in my shitty/early days. ;)
Love Rally racing. Very strange for someone as American as I am.
The Examined Life (of Gaming) we have the perfect weather and scenery for rally racing in europe so its popular on the continent, even here in Britain too
***** I'm from Oregon, so rainy forests are sort of my milieu. That must be why.
The Examined Life (of Gaming) ps how the heck wasn't i subbed to you already? anyway I've sorted that now
***** Who knows! Probably because I only do three or so videos a year, so it's hard to tell.
if you enjoyed this game, maybe consider giving some of Genki`s other racers a try. Yeah even vrally offers a better sim and if you want arcade rally then top gear 2 is the obvious choice
Aaaa grasias este videojuego es mega grandioso ya qu no se puede emular en android solo sparecen llantas sin coche solo si tienes un n64 o tienes un emulador de n64 muy bueno o potente grasias rally challenge 2000
This is on an n64 console ✌️
Looks like another game too look out for when I'm out retro hunting, but I would not pay more then $5 for it.
That would be about fair
Why would you not release this in E.U? That's like making a baseball game and skipping a U.S. release lol
Pretty crazy right
Yeah it really is, anyways thanks for the content its great to see videos from the 5th gen as i was a N64 owner back then and also play alot of saturn nowadays.. sad to see alot of ppl overlook this gen and make it sounds like alot these games are unplayable because of the early 3D graphics.
And rally challenge 2000 is not in europe
I would've though this game as just another poop racing game, but it actually looks kind of cool. I will have to keep an eye out for it.
Yeah it's worth a play, it's by no means great but it's a fun one to have a blast with
If I want to play a game like this, I'll pick up a more recent release. N64 and realism don't really go well together.
Jaeger Newman its a weird mix, there are some simulation elements but its very arcade like in gameplay
I'd rather it be purely arcade on the N64 rather than a mixture of both.
good but, MRC is better than rally challenge 2000
Emandudeguyperson He's right man. Multi Racing Championship is easily one of the most fun, and best handling racing games on the N64. Nuh Uh...I'm First!
edgarschainsaw i think everyone should listen to you...or else!
Yay, first view!
Joe Tungate and first comment too!
