Ringling Brothers Circus has been caught on video numerous times beating their elephants. They testified in court, that they beat the elephants. These "tricks" are unnatural and painful for elephants to perform. An elephant would never do a handstand in the wild. Its 2014 and we still have animals in severe confinement/captivity, doing ridiculous tricks as entertainment?

These animals are tortured with whips and electric-shock machines to get them to do these bizarre stunts. If they refuse, and cause a stampede instead, they'll get twice the punishment. They've been captivated, and deprived of their natural habitat. Look at 1:00 - Each member is holding a cane.

They are clearly tame & they trust the trainers, or they would revolt, as angry elephants have done in the past. You & others like you, assume you "know" that the elephants are unhappy, but there is no sign that they are unhappy, plus they're not alone, as they have all their elephant friends with them all the time.

i did my school project on this, and in it i put a video of an elephant rocking back and forth from being abused and forced into doing tricks, my project was to stop the school excursion to the animal circus, my mum was horrified. my project raised awareness and at the end of the day all of the kids parents didn't sign permission papers. i cried a lot and it makes me very sad that people do this for their own entertainment.

also noticed two things, 1 . most the stadium is EMPTY, 2. all the handlers are armed with billhooks and whips, the bull hooks are pained black and the hooks are made to be less noticeable, to make them so they don't stand out and are harder to see in the dim lights.

However, there are a small amount of circuses who treat the animals with respect. But those are the circuses you never hear about and didn't do many gigs cause it took so long to train an animal

This is the miserable life for Ringling Bros Circus elephants
They are in chains, beaten, prodded with electric shock prods and bullhooked in order to do do unnecessary circus tricks.
They suffer horrific conditions, get chained 24 hours a day and brutally tied up for training.
Mother elephants are never allowed to see their own baby calfs, they are pulled away from their mothers. Elephants calves that deem no good are often destroyed on day 1 by shooting them or letting them dye a horrible death in a separate part of the shed. Witness saw sick and injured calfs, juveniles and adolescents abandoned to a prolonged and painful death.
The terrified elephants are dragged onto lorries and towed in windowless containers for hours and hours. When they arrive, they are chained up swaying for hours on end.
The elephants are deprived, beaten and malnourished for the need to do tricks. They are kept in dark cold filthy sheds with no bedding what so ever and forced to live on gravel or concrete and possibly in their own waste which is very bad for their health. When they try to escape, they are often tranquilesed, beaten and forced to walk back and they are chained up again.
They are often starving and receive no medical treatment for illness or much food or water.
They are only allowed water about twice a day which makes them severely dehydrated. The only enrichment they get is their own chains which is not enrichment or amusing to them at all, in fact it's very distressing, terrifying and can be lethal. They kick the side of the sheds in intense distress desperate to be free, fear and pain and sway in chains.
They suffer in agonising pain and imense distress from the chains, there is no medication so they just have to endure the extremely difficult sad cruel ghastly obnoxiously disgusting living conditions
Elephants who are deemed no good have no retirement, just more abuse. They are cut open whilst still alive or die agonizing deaths.
Other elephants amwere hurled to slaughterhouses where they were jolted with electricity m, hung up side down by one leg, slashed across the throat, bled and skinned.
Their body's are then cut up to be made into ornament, suit buttons, wedding / baptism peasants and other traditions.
This is their very sad every day life of circus elephants. Please only visit large green sanctuaries to visit animals.
The next time you go to an elephant circus, please remember the lives they endure
1) Swaying in chains
2) Living on GRAVEL or CONCRETE
3) Giving rides and performing unnecessary circus tricks.
This is the life they endure which is a life of abuse, frustration and life long suffering.
The life of sanctuary elephants is
1) 24 hour freedom
2) Living in grass and water
3) Recieving treats and having a wonderful life
Visit ELEPHANT SANCTUARIES not ELEPHANT CIRCUSES.

How does the elephants existence benefit from this? Obviously there is no benefit to them, apart from they are kept alive, at the expense of a life in captivity and forced to do pathetic tricks to entertain the people, (who are these peope who go to watch these events, surely they know better by now. It's so disappointing that man believes he is all important and can treat creatures like this) to loin the pockets of people getting rich at an animals expense.
All we can do is try and help people around us understand why captivity doesn't work in the present day and should be looked on as a date past time that is frowned upon!

Even further, this is abuse. Their whole life is abuse. The inherent cruelty of severe captivity and travel is abusive. Its hard for people to see that since its not outwardly hitting, but the depravation of anything natural, for years and years is extreme abuse. So I just wonder why you would take the time and somehow try to defend this? Those animals would ask you the exact same thing and also ask you, what did they do to deserve such treatment?

People still enjoy the zoo and think animals are a spectacle. National parks that replicate habitat are the progressive way of homing zoo based animals. A total ban on captivity will hopefully occur some day!

As a kid I saw one of this. Back then I thought I was weird because all the kids are laughing, giggling with joy while I felt different. I felt traumatized seeing the animals’ sad faces. The most unhappy looking animals I’ve seen as if they wished they’re dead. In most living creatures, the eyes are indicators of what they feel. You can see deep sadness in their eyes, elephants, liomst, tigers, monkeys. The only living creatures looking happy are the audience and the performers. This cruel industry must be stopped.
When I see poor animals in circuses it always remembers me how bad people's life too, we can not live our life naturally anymore, we are also a part of a big circus. You have to do a lot of pointless things for a living and you don't have time for what you really need.

Ringling Brothers needs to stop listening to the weak opinions of people who don’t ever want to know anything. If they did, they would know that these elephants are better off with Ringling Brothers than out in the wild where all day, every day is a constant battle for the elephants 🐘 to keep their offspring and even themselves from being eaten alive by packs of lions and hyenas or whatever.
There is no cruelty the elephants got at Ringling Brothers that remotely compares to being eaten alive by lions.

It paid pretty well, especially for a second rate brass player in school, but I quit after I saw an adolescent elephant be effectively tasered for running. It had so many scars around it's ankles from being chained and tied, that it almost bled from something it hadn't done in years. To anyone that says that this is natural or normal, I harbor no hate for you, but I hope that one day that you can see the damage that this does to the elephant populous and to desensitize people from these modern atrocities.
@Jamie . W do you. hear yourself right now? Do you have any evidence the animals aren’t being abused?
Why is nobody crying out about the humans forced to perform in front of people in order to meet their need?? People do horrible jobs so they don’t starve.
Listen everyone, all the elephants has been retired. So stop your hating on the circus, at one time the circus was a thing. “Times has changed” Now” We are in an age were humans are the animals, wait humans has always been animals. Lol..... I’m building a 1:87 scale of Ringling Bro’s Circus, it’ll have elephants, loins, tigers, bears, giraffes, hippos, horses, dogs, zebras, polar bears and monkeys! I’ll keep the circus alive on my train table! Oh yeah! I even managed to get caged loins and tiger wagons, you’ll love the Circus train it is the bomb!

...if you know some facts about elephants they can’t even jump. And their forced to climb on balls and small stools for entertainment. I’m so happy that they got shut down for abusing the animals.
