I've been a "Doughhead" all my life. I've made hundreds of pounds of dough and have made tons of creations for gifts, sell them at craft sales. I'm a huge fan. I have always baked them at 180-200 degrees for 3-8 hours. In the wintertime when your house is cold it's really nice to have the stove on and it smells like something is baking. What may have caused the bubbling is perhaps if self-raising flour was used. In my experience you don't want to use that. I have used wheat flour to make a nice baked brown color and I've also colored my dough with powder tempera paint. When I was young I would use varnish to preserve them. Yes, it makes them last forever but polyurethane does make it yellow over time. I've used clear spray although they can crack over time and they need to stay away from moisture. I've had great success and failures with dough. I've also made the cinnamon and applesauce ornaments with cheap brands cinnamon and applesauce. They're neat too. I just made smaller ornaments. This craft style originated from Germany I understand. It's a very old craft form used when they made ornaments for their Christmas tree. I am now going to use the resin I think I should be able to find it at a decent price now. ---life long dough fan ❤

Oh Joann I made Gobs ornament lol your recipe, iv been painting them very pretty, thank you for sharing I used to make them years ago in my younger years, kinda forgot so last year I think when you put your video out is when I got it, yes iv been working on ornaments, not Halloween lol, I don't do to much for Halloween, been trying to get some of my Christmas stuff don't, I'm ,64, yes I'm in Arizona n it took about 6 hours to dry I didn't start painting them till a week later they were good n dried, I did make them a bit thicker didn't want to take a chance one would break. I’m loving this!! I’ve made salt dough ornaments and still have them after a few years! I have never tried resin , so I will have to try that! How thin are you rolling the dough? 1/4 or Less? And what kind of resin do you use? And do you dip the whole ornament into the resin? Thanks for sharing and I subscribed to your channel ❤️
Hello Sweet Friend and Welcome to my channel, appreciate you so much!! I roll them about 1/4 or less and I use Envirotex Lite High Gloss Finish from Michaels. I just hold them in one hand and spread the resin front and back and place them on wax paper. It takes 24 hours to dry. Sending you Crafty Hugs!!

I'm kind of scared to use resin, but I'll try my Paper Glaze from Aleene's. Otherwise I use Fascoat from Faskolor. I've used it for years on my plastic ornaments. It's water based and non-toxic. So far it hasn't yellowed. Fingers crossed! Edit: On the other hand, I doubt it'll be as sturdy as with resin!

Erick got so busy and working out of town a lot, he was not able to film on a regular basis. He taught my hubby how to film TH-cam lives so we could continue sharing craft ideas with everyone. When my girls were in 1st and kindergarten, I made a gingerbread boy and girls out of salt dough. That was 175 ornaments.

I first started making them when I was a stay at home mom. I wanted to make gifts for my kids teachers and classmates but didn't have a lot of money to spend at the time and then this idea fell into my hands. I made these 50 years ago . But.I did and would you believe weevil Scott into the ornaments but you’re using the resin and I haven’t seen you do this part yet, but I’m anxious to try it again.

I’m loving this!! I’ve made salt dough ornaments and still have them after a few years! I have never tried resin , so I will have to try that! How thin are you rolling the dough? 1/4 or Less? And what kind of resin do you use? And do you dip the whole ornament into the resin? Thanks for sharing and I subscribed to your channel ❤️
Hello Sweet Friend and Welcome to my channel, appreciate you so much!! I roll them about 1/4 or less and I use Envirotex Lite High Gloss Finish from Michaels. I just hold them in one hand and spread the resin front and back and place them on wax paper. It takes 24 hours to dry. Sending you Crafty Hugs!!

I'm kind of scared to use resin, but I'll try my Paper Glaze from Aleene's. Otherwise I use Fascoat from Faskolor. I've used it for years on my plastic ornaments. It's water based and non-toxic. So far it hasn't yellowed. Fingers crossed!
Edit: On the other hand, I doubt it'll be as sturdy as with resin!

Hello Sweet Friend, I have been thinking of you!! I saw the ornaments that you sent me several years ago and they put a big smile on my face. Erick got so busy and working out of town a lot, he was not able to film on a regular basis. He taught my hubby how to film TH-cam lives so we could continue sharing craft ideas with everyone. We try to film twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday but sometimes life happens and we have to change the days to Wednesday or Friday. So glad to hear from you Sweet Friend, sending you Crafty Hugs!!

I made salt dough ornaments for years. I stopped making them because they would get brittle and end up breaking from years of storage. I've never used resin but really interested in trying. What resin do you use or recommend?????? ❤❤❤😊

Hi Sweet Friend, Thank you for watching, appreciate you so much. They do not have any markings. I think the Santa was in a Wilton’s decorating kit and the Angel was a Hallmark buy. Crafters found some last year on EBay under vintage cookie cutters.

Joanna how do you do it with the resin so it won't stick or drip from the clay? I tried it but they all got stuck to the rack.

Instead of resin can you use brite tone its safer alternative to epoxy
