To be fair, if I'd been a Power Ranger, I'd stick to my given color, too. :) Like a thing of pride in how huge it had been to my life, and how I'd wear my color as a badge of honor to the good times.
As someone who's not a Power Rangers fan, I gotta say I love how cheesy and true to the original this feels in content and visuals. No new age plot revolving smartphones or whatever, no new tech that's more like today's standards, no hyper realistic makeup or CGI, just guys in tight suits fighting each other for some space reason. It's beautiful.

Yeah, I would have loved to see them. There was a brief almost cameo, maybe you missed it. Their faces were on a billboard that got ruined in one of the fights. It looked like they opened a food truck or something. Maybe the actors didn’t want to partake beyond that. They sure were memorable though.
“They just made it as a regular episode of Power Rangers from 1992,” I’m pretty sure that’s what they were aiming for. This is what every remake is trying to achieve, I see this as a win and not a lost.
YES! In so many big and small ways, it was faithtful to the original show. The fact that it felt like a lost episode of the show that was only just released is a compliment and everything I wanted from it as a lifelong fan.
TBH I love how they kept the cheesiness, the low budget costumes, the goofy fights choreography. They didn’t try to modernize it too much. It’s a good way to say one last goodbye to a childhood show.
Personally, I think it would've been better off if it were a little less cheesy. we're all nostalgic for that time, but 90s acting just doesn't work anymore.
I loved the cgi for the zords... it was super dope. I just got done watching the og movie.. and man the cgi of the zords was rough. It's always odd going back watching older movies with cgi.
You do know that Thuy Trang died over 20 years ago, right? There has been some other stuff done over the years to give her some manner of "send off", but many felt that she was kinda just replaced without much fanfare at the time... Kinda understandable considering the target audience back in the day, but those fans are all adults now and felt that she deserved better, including David Yost (Billy/Blue Ranger). That's why he was so involved in the writing and production of "Once and Always". It was definitely a passion project for him since he and Thuy were so close back in the day.
also David Yost had to leave the PR cast because he had been harrased non-stop by staff due to his sexuality (Saban never apologizing to him was the reason he never came back), so the fact that after he finally returns he gets to be producer of the movie is probaly very cathartic for him.

Kat was a little later so she might cause some confusion. As most people have said, this is definitely for the fans. Yes, that means us 30yo who watched SPD, In Space, Dino Thunder and all the others. Personally my favourites were Time Force and SPD. The special was exactly what I expected and I'm glad Netflix decided to put money into it.

He had too much screen time and his side plot tarnished the actual point of the villains schemes just for us to watch him use his master Morpher and turn into even more rangers. As a fan who hasnt bothered with any of the other rangers, not only was it nice to be able to have spent an hour with people whom felt like I was catching up with old friends, it was a wonderful way to remember and honour Thui, and also give a shoutout to Jason. Plus, Amy has stated that while yes, not making as much as she'd like to come back for it, she's also 52. Reprising a role she did very early on in her career plus her own life outside of acting was something she just didn't want to be involved in. I'm actually pretty happy with this show, the horrifying cg final battle aside.
1. Not a reboot, 30th anniversary special 2. The reason why it only focuses on the Mighty Morphin Team is because it’s their reunion special. The 30th anniversary season Cosmic Fury is coming later this year, but this is specifically MMPR focused 3. Rocky & Kat are from MMPR. Rocky was Jason’s replacement halfway through season 2 & Kat was Kimberly’s replacement halfway through season 3. I know this is all for fun, but I really get the idea that you don’t know what you’re talking about.

To those who don't know the whole story on why JDF didn't come back as Tommy at 7:20 Hasbro stole JDF's Legend of the White Dragon movie script and said he didn't want the Tommy character anywhere near the PR special after finding out what they did, but when he died, Hasbro put him in anyway after changing the script. That's why you see Tommy lose so easily when he fought that monster. JDF never wanted a tribute from Hasbro. You can find it on TH-cam.
Hasbro did not steal any movie script. There is literally ZERO proof of that. Aason is just incapable of promoting White Dragon without trying to shit on Power Rangers.

It's a love letter to the characters and the original version of the show. It is a longer episode exactly how it would have been if it came out 30ys ago, which is the perfect way to do it! It takes us as fans who watched as kids right back to them, with all of the stupidity, terrible acting, plot holes, campiness, and overall a fun adventure! Absolutely loved it!
For once, I actually respect that, whether the fans wanted it or not, they wanted to give Thuy the send off they felt she deserved. I mean, at the time of her death, she’d already been gone from the series too long to justify something like this. I think they were very respectful with weaving that into the storyline. But I do agree with your point of “who was the intended target audience?” My kids aren’t into MMPR or power rangers as a whole like my husband and I are, and there’s always going to be a level of Camp Cheese when it comes to rangers anything. Overall, I enjoyed this special. Cried like a fcking baby at the tributes at the end tho 🥲

I'm 38. Been a fan since episode one. Got hooked when Jason David Frank entered the cast (rest in peace to him) and am still a fan today. I have the anniversary video ready to view as anything with the original cast (or even the in space rangers were also a favorite of mine) I will gladly watch.
When I was a kid I thought Zack was a real teenager but he was already 22 when the show started. He did age pretty slow. Just think he's like 3 years older than Rick from the walking dead.

Just a thing to remember, Amy Jo Johnson had an acting career after Power Rangers. She did come forward and say that it wasn't the pay but the script as the reason that she and Jason David Frank turned down the movie. She's going to be writing a power rangers comic for Boom in the near future.
I’m telling you as a professional Filmmaker that was her polite excuse of why she wasn’t part of the project. Not only is she a sag actress but she’s an actress that’s been a main character on numerous TV shows and TV movies. The Power Rangers get paid peanuts and it looks cheesy as hell like some amateur Film. I guarantee her agent and manager would’ve told her no you’re not doing that. And she probably never gave it a second thought. The actors in this series and they’re lucky if they’re getting about 500 a day. Whereas an actress for a professional TV show is making nearly around $30-$50,000 an episode which is about 5 to 7 days of work. So yeah, it was a mix of money, and the fact that it would look really bad on your career to go back to this from the well received shows that she’s been a part of that are professionally made.

It's a nostalgia thing, it helped launch her career, and I see no shame in joining in a one time anniversary special MEANT to be just as cheesy and stuff as the original. If it was just a badly written movie etc. that would be one thing, but they are purposefully making it that way as a throwback (almost like parody movies like Not Nother Teen Movie as an example). And I'm really surprised Jason David Frank didn't do it either given how long he did the series and how even up to his recent unfortunate passing he engaged with ppl regarding Power Rangers in a positive light, happy to delight old PR fans. I’ve heard about the comic book and I would’ve loved to see her in this special as much as the next person, but if this comic book she’s writing is the only thing that she’ll ever want to do with Power Rangers ever again, so be it, especially if it’s something to do with Power Rangers written by an original cast member, i’m pretty sure in spite of it being a darker retelling, that’s the appeal of JDF’s Legend of the White Dragon.

I haven't watched since Power Rangers Time Force came and went back in 2001. So to be quite honest, I didn't look back (and haven't really) I didn't realize it was still airing on TV until I saw a couple of Dino Thunder clips on TH-cam. While it does have a special place in my heart, I couldn't honestly care about it now. 🤷🏻♀

Life should not be about working your life away just to make someone else rich. No one should have to pay to exist since we have no choice over that. But since we're forced to work life away, we should be allowed to find enjoyment any way we can that doesn't harm anyone or anything. Age expectations are nothing but social constructs. The only age related things we should follow is not having sex as kids or with kids. If more adults would realize they don't have to make themselves miserable because society expects them to, maybe life wouldn't be so shit.
Is it weird I'm actually excited that it centered more around the yellow ranger? She was my favorite as a kid and all the other girls were like 'ew why?' ...like obviously she's the prettiest, she gets her own color (not just a shade of a 'boy' color) and she's a frickin saber tooth tiger! They always relegated her character to the BG and it bugged me. Nice to see in the 30th that they focused on the 'less popular' characters even if it was because they basically didn't have a choice 🥲

I was rewatching some of the original show and I think Trini and Jason had the best acting of the group. I can see why they were ur faves as a kid. You had good taste! My faves were Pink and Blue but it’s hard to back them as an adult bc the acting is so bad. It really felt like a meaningful way to honour the original show and the yellow ranger and actor who played her. I really appreciated that aspect. 💛
At least some later series didn't sideline theirs. Emily, the yellow ranger from Power Rangers Samurai, had at least whole episode centering around her.
It was just an anniversary special on with an MMPR being the most iconic and their current owner linking all PR teams together into a multi-verse timeline. Useing the “morphing grid” as the connecting base for the franchise branches. Also in a newer series the previous teams connections took the form of small figures
So this special was for the cast as a reunion, as best as they can, and for the fans who grew up with mmpr, and still have a love for it, it's what it needed to be, and is exactly what a lot of fans wanted
Apparently the ranger's powers can turn a 8 years old kid into a teenager in the Turbo movie so making adults loose weight is possible. This magic is really strong!
Kat and rocky were technically the last holders of the red and pink Dinoranger power (i mean the green ranger power is also gone and tommy should have been the white ranger) they took over for Kimberly and Jason, then kat and rocky went on to be the pink and blue zeo rangers and then Kat went on to be the pink turbo ranger; rocky would have been blue but he "got hurt " doing the flip kick he did in this movie that "never lost it"
the powers have always been inconsistent. Kat shouldn't have been Turbo in Super Ninja Steel since she gave that to Cassie and MMPR Red are usually traded between Jason and Rocky since it was Jason in Forever Red and we can likely assume it was him in Super Megaforce, Rocky was Red in Super Ninja Steel then we see Red again in Beast Morphers which was Jason. Green powers have been established as being back due to Tommy's Master Morpher.

Technically, Green never left. The majority of the power was taken by Rita, and she held it until her end in Countdown to Destruction where she turned good. So as Good Rita she could’ve handed back the Dragon powers
@@MattZRJSRoxy we already know from multiple crossovers and this very movie that the mmpr rangers at least are capable of eventually fixing their morphers (as adam went from having his morpher still be damaged to all the mmpr rangers using morphers without any repercussions), and I'll assume this also will apply to the green ranger power and a few other ones like Dino Thunder because lore wise, the morphin grid cannot be destroyed, only morphers, and theoretically the rangers can just make new morphers like in Ninja Steel where the rangers make new stars when the old ones are destroyed at the end of season 1 or the cosmic fury rangers creating enhanced versions of their dino fury powers.
@@darkmanstudios3828 the power wasn't stolen by Rita, she was going to get the powers but Zordon told Tommy to give up his coin to another Ranger to prevent this transference which he did but you're right that as good Rita, she likely could've fixed that but due to his Master Morpher, who knows if she did or if it was even needed.
I'm surprised they haven't done a animated theatrical movie for this franchise like they're doing with TMNT. To me I think Power Rangers can work well in animation.
I think it was rumoured that the Japanese company that they license it from forbade them doing any kind of animated movie or series. If you want an example of what it could look like though, check out the anime Fuuto PI. It's pretty graphic in places, but it's a literal sequel to a live action superhero series in the same vein as Power Rangers.

You do understand this is a 30th anniversary movie, as a tribute to it's 30 years since the series premiered, while at the same time it's also a tribute to Thuy Trang and Jason David Frank, right? This is why the movie was made.
I don’t know you but this was great. This is what the fans of original have been waiting for. It was one of epic things ever. I’m so glad they bought back Zack, Billy, Kat and Rocky one more time to become power rangers again. I for one would like to see a sequel. It was one of the best things that ever came out of Power Rangers. This was for the fans. It was a great tribute to the late JDF and Thay. I hope that they make a sequel to this.
I don't know about "the best." I liked the hyper realistic version with Dacre Montgomery more than this. The nostalgia felt artificial to me, idk to explain it

For a fan like me who enjoys continuity and character progression it's good to see what the MMPR team have been up since the end of In Space like Billy having his own tech company, Aisha and Adam being part of SPD, etc. It was just nice to see the old gang back together. RIP Thuy Trang and JDF.

This is a win for me, when people reboot things from 20, 30 yeard ago, it's always left soulless, but this is cheesy, and campy, I love it actually. The young actress is also a nice addition, I thought they would make her more annoying but I understood her motivations and didn't think she didn't fit or something.
I think, maybe, that "wow, this is silly," energy might have been what they were going for. That feeling has some entertainment value in it's own right, and the fact that it feels "just like a classic episide" is kinda cool.
RIP Tommy and Trini :( Won't be the same without them. I had the absolute biggest crush on Jason and Tommy when I was in elementary school. My friend and I fought over which of us was going to marry Tommy when we got older. After his passing, a friend shared a cartoonist's illustration of Tommy's dinosaur Zord looking up at the sky and seeing clouds in the shape of the White Ranger blowing his flute. I cried buckets.
What I like about Power Rangers is that it's super wholesome. I put it on for my 9yo and it held his attention. I was a child of 80s so missed the Power Rangers trend. I always thought it was just a lame show. But as a parent my older kids got into Power Rangers Samurai when they were younger and that when I came to appreciate the shows. It has overacting, cheesy jokes, crazy villan costumes and pretty cool fight scenes, but that makes it quality pantomime and the character transformation sequences are fun and you just want to learn their moves too (well I did as a parent 😂).
Samurai is seen as one of the least favored seasons by the fandom, so if you want a bit less cheesy (but still cheesy enough) I recommend watching seasons like Dino Thunder and Ninja Storm.

Billy’s having a flying car isn’t really something new tho. He’s always had a flying Buggy. This is just an updated version and most definitely a call back to the original episodes.
Regarding the fact that the Red Ranger lost weight after morphing, I think it's fair to say that's a possibility considering that in Power Rangers: Turbo the movie when the blue range gets injured, a kid named Justin takes over, and when he morphs his body also changes to match the body type of the average ranger despite being a child that was only about 13 or 14
The reason they couldn't use a human Reta is because in canon, after having her evil essence destroyed by the Z-wave, Rita eventually went on to become the mistress of all good magic, known as the Mystic Mother from Power Rangers mystic force. She also gets a mention in Beast Morpthers, which started bringing back villains from all over the franchise. That she appeared once again in Mystic Force is because they gave her a send-off in _Magiranger_ (she played _a lot_ of villainous roles in Sentai throughout the 80s and 90s) The voice actress for Robo-Rita is Barbara Goodson, who has voiced her since the start and near as I can tell also put on the costume after they ran out of Machiko footage
I as a casual Power Rangers viewer thought this special was pretty good. It felt kind of lonely which was sad, you could tell a lot of the cast didn’t want to comeback and that Adams actor couldn’t really do anything. But it was quite alright. I was really happy hearing Horvitz as Alpha after years of being cockblocked by randos tryin to bask in his glory, and I was really impressed by Rita’s actress, 30 years later, in her 70’s and. She can still do the voice! Incredible! It was great seeing Billy and Zack as there the only other original rangers who have yet to return for anniversary’s. I was also surprised by how darker this film was, I mean Trini gets literally killed and they say words like “Killed” a lot which I thought was a welcomed edition to da Rangers series. The ending tribute was also touching. So yeah overall I’d give it a, Go Go Power Rangers/ 10

Its was ment for fans of the original show in 1993. the cheese and camp was kept in on purpose because that is what Power Rangers is. its cheese and camp mixed with giant montster and robot battles. nothing more. they did mature it a bit with the dialogue like using the word kill instead of destroy like they used to do back in the 90s. hell Rita talked about killing them in there damn sleep at one point.
Yeah this got dark, but not as dark as Boom comics. But love that it’s kinda leaning towards the Sentai dialogue, a lot of baddies and monster do say they will kill the whole team in Japan.
All in all I think it was a nice send off for the cast, it wasn't the best they could have done but considering how the production of this entire series has been over the years and how it was back then getting this much is a miracle all together.
Rocky and Kat are not from a "different Sentai team", they took over the roles of the Red and Pink Ranger in season 2 and 3, so all the Rangers here are from the Mighty Morphin' years, they just are not all the classic season 1 line up. Adam and Aisha were also in season 2 and 3 as the black and Yellow replacements. The focus is on the Mighty Morphing Era so it explains why they didn't ship in Rangers from other teams.
Rocky and kat are imitations. The originals made a huge impact and by the time these two came around everyone stopped watching. Again they should’ve done this 5 years ago and made sure everyone was on board.

So 5 years ago you'd have Tommy and possibly Zack but not Billy. Jason David Frank and Austin St. John had some bad blood between them at the time too, so we would probably still have Rocky as the red ranger.

That was still peak Power Rangers at the time. Either way it wouldn't matter much. Amy Jo Johnson wanted money and largely has been against to returning so she was probably not in no matter what. Thuy died 22 years ago. Austin St. John having legal issues wasn't something you could predict. Also JDF declined to be in this before he died. So really even if you did it 5 years ago, the only difference is you might get Austin St. John as Jason. Also tbf, JDF and Austin St. John have done returns before. Billy and Zach coming back after years was important to a lot of fans.

This was on people’s minds because there is an entire genre of fans that follow and all cared when JDF passed. And we all felt this was a great send of for Thuy. It was easy to fall back into the fun of it all. Before I knew I was cheering for the action. It was great and fun.
Tbh these guys aren't really actors. They were all martial artists when they initially got hired. And it's been a long time since most of them did any acting.
No Saban made MMPR, Zeo, Turbo, In Space, Lost Galaxy, Lightspeed Rescue, Time Force and WIld Force Power Rangers was then sold off to Disney who made Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, SPD, Mystic Force, Operation Overdrive, Jungle Fury, RPM Disney then sold it back to Saban who then made Samurai, Megaforce, Dino Charge and Ninja Steel And now Hasbro owns it with Beast Morphers, Dino Fury and Cosmic Fury under their belt Oh and also there was a small break inbetween RPM and Samurai, so not consistent releases
Not exactly true. Saban sold the brand to Disney, than bought it again, than sold again to Hasbro, that made the last 2 shows (and the special). And we did have a couple of years between RPM and Samurai without anything new
For real. When he said that, it was easy to tell he did not grow up on this show. I started watching in ‘93, shortly after the series started and my sister and I played Power Rangers for years. I don’t think Kat ever made it into our stories, but we did add in Adam, Aisha, and Rocky joining, though we didn’t stop playing with Jason, Zach, and Trini, just changed what there role was.
I personally would've fixed the ending. Like, Tommy rips Rita's soul out of Alpha's systems and sacrifices himself to take Rita with him, and at his funeral his daughter (JDF's actual daughter), inherits the Green Ranger morpher, and at the end credits her boyfriend (probably played by Tanner Buchanan) gets ahold of the White Ranger morpher by accident. I honestly think this would be a good way to honor the best Power Ranger's legacy
Harvey Garvey is actually an easter egg. He was a reporter who appeared in a single episode of MMPR. He was played by the same actor who went on to voice Ninjor in season three of MMPR.

I actually enjoyed this special. I grew up on MMPR and it was nice to see almost everyone back together again. The acting was hit or miss which wasn't a big deal and the CGI in the end was horrendous but oh well. It was a fun special imo and kinda surreal this happened after 30 years
If you not the original ranger fan, maybe you wouldn't enjoy this special. I actually have a nostalgia watching this. Of course it's not that good or up to standard but, for me, I enjoyed watching this with my wife and son. Maybe it was just me.
It's a 30th anniversary special. I grew up on it... It was a really fun tribute that took me back to my childhood. That's the point of it... It served its purpose. Many mid 30 to 40 year olds will watch this to be transported back to a more innocent perhaps fun time in their lives.
I think you've missed the whole point of the special. And it's because you are not familiar with the original 3 seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. The red and pink rangers are both in the original run. The original red, yellow and black rangers were replaced in season 2. And the pink was replaced in season 3. The newer red ranger also appears in the original movie. Power Rangers is famously silly, corny, cheesy, and maybe even cringy. But that's probably why people (especially kids) like it. And yes, Adults do actually watch the newer stuff. Maybe becuase it's a form of escapism.
look it up, "hip-hopkido" is an actual thing, that the actor who played zach invented, all of the actors who played rangers had stunt experiance, but of them, Walter and JDF (RIP) took it to the next level, JDF became the first american to become black belt in a specific type of martial arts, and both him and walter created their own fighting styles, and taught them to many many people.

My cousin and I were stoned to the bone, neither of us knew anything about this anniversary special, it was #9 on trending movies on Netflix and I convinced him we should watch it to make fun of it. In my adult life I have allowed myself to cry four times: when I had my first serious relationship breakup, when my grandmother died, and while watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always. I fucking cried twice during the viewing. This was a masterpiece. It was silly and bad, but despite these disadvantages it made me feel tremendous emotions.

RPM might actually be my favorite season if I’m being honest. They managed to take the source material which is INCREDIBLY campy and weird (until the last few episodes that is) and made one of the darkest and most gripping stories Power Rangers have ever had. This was done while including some of the funniest moments that I still laugh at now, such as Ziggy doing a partial fourth wall break when mentioning the giant explosion after they morph and the line of, “I’M SCOTTISH!!!!!” xD
Not only is it not a soft reboot of the franchise and is just an anniversary special…it’s also a direct sequel of the events that occurred in “In Space”. I understand Power Rangers not being on your radar..but it’s been a continuing franchise that’s been steadily building its lore for decades, and has even spawned a successful multiversal comic line that’s canon. This feels like its coming from a place of…”ignorance” is a strong word, but..that.
Same here lol, Power Rangers, Pokemon and Ghibli Studios movies were always on T.V for me so it really depended on my mood on which I wanted to watch. 😅

I have never been a fan of power rangers but I can tell they tried to replicate cheesy 90s energy. I can appreciate that.

To be fair, if I'd been a Power Ranger, I'd stick to my given color, too. :) Like a thing of pride in how huge it had been to my life, and how I'd wear my color as a badge of honor to the good times.
As someone who's not a Power Rangers fan, I gotta say I love how cheesy and true to the original this feels in content and visuals. No new age plot revolving smartphones or whatever, no new tech that's more like today's standards, no hyper realistic makeup or CGI, just guys in tight suits fighting each other for some space reason. It's beautiful.

You do know that Thuy Trang died over 20 years ago, right? There has been some other stuff done over the years to give her some manner of "send off", but many felt that she was kinda just replaced without much fanfare at the time... Kinda understandable considering the target audience back in the day, but those fans are all adults now and felt that she deserved better, including David Yost (Billy/Blue Ranger). That's why he was so involved in the writing and production of "Once and Always". It was definitely a passion project for him since he and Thuy were so close back in the day.
also David Yost had to leave the PR cast because he had been harrased non-stop by staff due to his sexuality (Saban never apologizing to him was the reason he never came back), so the fact that after he finally returns he gets to be producer of the movie is probaly very cathartic for him.

Realistically most people who watched this would have known them

As most people have said, this is definitely for the fans. Yes, that means us 30yo who watched SPD, In Space, Dino Thunder and all the others. Personally my favourites were Time Force and SPD. The special was exactly what I expected and I'm glad Netflix decided to put money into it.

He had too much screen time and his side plot tarnished the actual point of the villains schemes just for us to watch him use his master Morpher and turn into even more rangers. As a fan who hasnt bothered with any of the other rangers, not only was it nice to be able to have spent an hour with people whom felt like I was catching up with old friends, it was a wonderful way to remember and honour Thui, and also give a shoutout to Jason. Plus, Amy has stated that while yes, not making as much as she'd like to come back for it, she's also 52. Reprising a role she did very early on in her career plus her own life outside of acting was something she just didn't want to be involved in. I'm actually pretty happy with this show, the horrifying cg final battle aside.

To those who don't know the whole story on why JDF didn't come back as Tommy at 7:20 Hasbro stole JDF's Legend of the White Dragon movie script and said he didn't want the Tommy character anywhere near the PR special after finding out what they did, but when he died, Hasbro put him in anyway after changing the script. That's why you see Tommy lose so easily when he fought that monster. JDF never wanted a tribute from Hasbro. You can find it on TH-cam.
Hasbro did not steal any movie script. There is literally ZERO proof of that. Aason is just incapable of promoting White Dragon without trying to shit on Power Rangers.

It's a love letter to the characters and the original version of the show. It is a longer episode exactly how it would have been if it came out 30ys ago, which is the perfect way to do it! It takes us as fans who watched as kids right back to them, with all of the stupidity, terrible acting, plot holes, campiness, and overall a fun adventure! Absolutely loved it!

I’m telling you as a professional Filmmaker that was her polite excuse of why she wasn’t part of the project. Not only is she a sag actress but she’s an actress that’s been a main character on numerous TV shows and TV movies. The Power Rangers get paid peanuts and it looks cheesy as hell like some amateur Film. I guarantee her agent and manager would’ve told her no you’re not doing that. And she probably never gave it a second thought. The actors in this series and they’re lucky if they’re getting about 500 a day. Whereas an actress for a professional TV show is making nearly around $30-$50,000 an episode which is about 5 to 7 days of work. So yeah, it was a mix of money, and the fact that it would look really bad on your career to go back to this from the well received shows that she’s been a part of that are professionally made.

I’ve heard about the comic book and I would’ve loved to see her in this special as much as the next person, but if this comic book she’s writing is the only thing that she’ll ever want to do with Power Rangers ever again, so be it, especially if it’s something to do with Power Rangers written by an original cast member, i’m pretty sure in spite of it being a darker retelling, that’s the appeal of JDF’s Legend of the White Dragon.

Is it weird I'm actually excited that it centered more around the yellow ranger? She was my favorite as a kid and all the other girls were like 'ew why?' ...like obviously she's the prettiest, she gets her own color (not just a shade of a 'boy' color) and she's a frickin saber tooth tiger! They always relegated her character to the BG and it bugged me. Nice to see in the 30th that they focused on the 'less popular' characters even if it was because they basically didn't have a choice 🥲

Also in a newer series the previous teams connections took the form of small figures
So this special was for the cast as a reunion, as best as they can, and for the fans who grew up with mmpr, and still have a love for it, it's what it needed to be, and is exactly what a lot of fans wanted

Kat and rocky were technically the last holders of the red and pink Dinoranger power (i mean the green ranger power is also gone and tommy should have been the white ranger) they took over for Kimberly and Jason, then kat and rocky went on to be the pink and blue zeo rangers and then Kat went on to be the pink turbo ranger; rocky would have been blue but he "got hurt " doing the flip kick he did in this movie that "never lost it"
the powers have always been inconsistent. Kat shouldn't have been Turbo in Super Ninja Steel since she gave that to Cassie and MMPR Red are usually traded between Jason and Rocky since it was Jason in Forever Red and we can likely assume it was him in Super Megaforce, Rocky was Red in Super Ninja Steel then we see Red again in Beast Morphers which was Jason.
Green powers have been established as being back due to Tommy's Master Morpher.

@@MattZRJSRoxy we already know from multiple crossovers and this very movie that the mmpr rangers at least are capable of eventually fixing their morphers (as adam went from having his morpher still be damaged to all the mmpr rangers using morphers without any repercussions), and I'll assume this also will apply to the green ranger power and a few other ones like Dino Thunder because lore wise, the morphin grid cannot be destroyed, only morphers, and theoretically the rangers can just make new morphers like in Ninja Steel where the rangers make new stars when the old ones are destroyed at the end of season 1 or the cosmic fury rangers creating enhanced versions of their dino fury powers.

I don’t know you but this was great. This is what the fans of original have been waiting for. It was one of epic things ever. I’m so glad they bought back Zack, Billy, Kat and Rocky one more time to become power rangers again. I for one would like to see a sequel. It was one of the best things that ever came out of Power Rangers. This was for the fans. It was a great tribute to the late JDF and Thay. I hope that they make a sequel to this.

This is a win for me, when people reboot things from 20, 30 yeard ago, it's always left soulless, but this is cheesy, and campy, I love it actually.
The young actress is also a nice addition, I thought they would make her more annoying but I understood her motivations and didn't think she didn't fit or something.
I think, maybe, that "wow, this is silly," energy might have been what they were going for. That feeling has some entertainment value in it's own right, and the fact that it feels "just like a classic episide" is kinda cool.

I had the absolute biggest crush on Jason and Tommy when I was in elementary school. My friend and I fought over which of us was going to marry Tommy when we got older.
After his passing, a friend shared a cartoonist's illustration of Tommy's dinosaur Zord looking up at the sky and seeing clouds in the shape of the White Ranger blowing his flute. I cried buckets.
What I like about Power Rangers is that it's super wholesome. I put it on for my 9yo and it held his attention. I was a child of 80s so missed the Power Rangers trend. I always thought it was just a lame show. But as a parent my older kids got into Power Rangers Samurai when they were younger and that when I came to appreciate the shows. It has overacting, cheesy jokes, crazy villan costumes and pretty cool fight scenes, but that makes it quality pantomime and the character transformation sequences are fun and you just want to learn their moves too (well I did as a parent 😂).
Samurai is seen as one of the least favored seasons by the fandom, so if you want a bit less cheesy (but still cheesy enough) I recommend watching seasons like Dino Thunder and Ninja Storm.

Regarding the fact that the Red Ranger lost weight after morphing, I think it's fair to say that's a possibility considering that in Power Rangers: Turbo the movie when the blue range gets injured, a kid named Justin takes over, and when he morphs his body also changes to match the body type of the average ranger despite being a child that was only about 13 or 14
A lot of people don't seem to understand morphing like you do.
The reason they couldn't use a human Reta is because in canon, after having her evil essence destroyed by the Z-wave, Rita eventually went on to become the mistress of all good magic, known as the Mystic Mother from Power Rangers mystic force. She also gets a mention in Beast Morpthers, which started bringing back villains from all over the franchise. Although her husband, Lord Zedd did manage to return as a bad guy in 2021's Power Ranger's Dino Fury which continued the trend of reintroducing legacy villains.

The voice actress for Robo-Rita is Barbara Goodson, who has voiced her since the start and near as I can tell also put on the costume after they ran out of Machiko footage

I as a casual Power Rangers viewer thought this special was pretty good. It felt kind of lonely which was sad, you could tell a lot of the cast didn’t want to comeback and that Adams actor couldn’t really do anything. But it was quite alright. I was really happy hearing Horvitz as Alpha after years of being cockblocked by randos tryin to bask in his glory, and I was really impressed by Rita’s actress, 30 years later, in her 70’s and. She can still do the voice! Incredible! It was great seeing Billy and Zack as there the only other original rangers who have yet to return for anniversary’s. I was also surprised by how darker this film was, I mean Trini gets literally killed and they say words like “Killed” a lot which I thought was a welcomed edition to da Rangers series. The ending tribute was also touching.

I don't normally cry openly about celebrity deaths, but Jason was one I shed tears over.
Its was ment for fans of the original show in 1993. the cheese and camp was kept in on purpose because that is what Power Rangers is. its cheese and camp mixed with giant montster and robot battles. nothing more. they did mature it a bit with the dialogue like using the word kill instead of destroy like they used to do back in the 90s. hell Rita talked about killing them in there damn sleep at one point.
Yeah this got dark, but not as dark as Boom comics. But love that it’s kinda leaning towards the Sentai dialogue, a lot of baddies and monster do say they will kill the whole team in Japan.

We put this movie in for my kids. I had no idea it would have the original cast. I was so excited to see them all!
All in all I think it was a nice send off for the cast, it wasn't the best they could have done but considering how the production of this entire series has been over the years and how it was back then getting this much is a miracle all together.
Rocky and Kat are not from a "different Sentai team", they took over the roles of the Red and Pink Ranger in season 2 and 3, so all the Rangers here are from the Mighty Morphin' years, they just are not all the classic season 1 line up.
Adam and Aisha were also in season 2 and 3 as the black and Yellow replacements. The focus is on the Mighty Morphing Era so it explains why they didn't ship in Rangers from other teams.
Rocky and kat are imitations. The originals made a huge impact and by the time these two came around everyone stopped watching. Again they should’ve done this 5 years ago and made sure everyone was on board.

David Yost wouldn't come back while it was owned by Saban, because he was treated like shit. So 5 years ago you'd have Tommy and possibly Zack but not Billy.
Jason David Frank and Austin St. John had some bad blood between them at the time too, so we would probably still have Rocky as the red ranger.
@@BB-ed4om Rocky was in the movie back in the day. So it's kind of hard to say "everyone stopped watching when he came around". It was the second season. The same one that introduced Zedd. That was still peak Power Rangers at the time.
Either way it wouldn't matter much. Amy Jo Johnson wanted money and largely has been against to returning so she was probably not in no matter what. Thuy died 22 years ago. Austin St. John having legal issues wasn't something you could predict. Also JDF declined to be in this before he died.
So really even if you did it 5 years ago, the only difference is you might get Austin St. John as Jason.
Also tbf, JDF and Austin St. John have done returns before. Billy and Zach coming back after years was important to a lot of fans.

This was on people’s minds because there is an entire genre of fans that follow and all cared when JDF passed. And we all felt this was a great send of for Thuy. It was easy to fall back into the fun of it all. Before I knew I was cheering for the action.
It was great and fun.
The acting in this is…definitely something special.

Tbh these guys aren't really actors. They were all martial artists when they initially got hired. And it's been a long time since most of them did any acting.
Alex... Saban has been making new Power Rangers shows consistently since the '90s. There has been a new season or show *every year* since 1993

Power Rangers was then sold off to Disney who made Ninja Storm, Dino Thunder, SPD, Mystic Force, Operation Overdrive, Jungle Fury, RPM
Disney then sold it back to Saban who then made Samurai, Megaforce, Dino Charge and Ninja Steel
And now Hasbro owns it with Beast Morphers, Dino Fury and Cosmic Fury under their belt
Oh and also there was a small break inbetween RPM and Samurai, so not consistent releases
Not exactly true. Saban sold the brand to Disney, than bought it again, than sold again to Hasbro, that made the last 2 shows (and the special). And we did have a couple of years between RPM and Samurai without anything new

For real. When he said that, it was easy to tell he did not grow up on this show. I started watching in ‘93, shortly after the series started and my sister and I played Power Rangers for years. I don’t think Kat ever made it into our stories, but we did add in Adam, Aisha, and Rocky joining, though we didn’t stop playing with Jason, Zach, and Trini, just changed what there role was.
They were the wack version of Jason and Kimberly we all know this
I personally would've fixed the ending. Like, Tommy rips Rita's soul out of Alpha's systems and sacrifices himself to take Rita with him, and at his funeral his daughter (JDF's actual daughter), inherits the Green Ranger morpher, and at the end credits her boyfriend (probably played by Tanner Buchanan) gets ahold of the White Ranger morpher by accident. I honestly think this would be a good way to honor the best Power Ranger's legacy
Harvey Garvey is actually an easter egg.
He was a reporter who appeared in a single episode of MMPR. He was played by the same actor who went on to voice Ninjor in season three of MMPR.

I actually enjoyed this special. I grew up on MMPR and it was nice to see almost everyone back together again. The acting was hit or miss which wasn't a big deal and the CGI in the end was horrendous but oh well. It was a fun special imo and kinda surreal this happened after 30 years

If you not the original ranger fan, maybe you wouldn't enjoy this special. I actually have a nostalgia watching this. Of course it's not that good or up to standard but, for me, I enjoyed watching this with my wife and son. Maybe it was just me.
Honestly…it was pretty nice to see the Rangers as adults now. The movie was nostalgic in the best ways possible ❤

It's a 30th anniversary special. I grew up on it... It was a really fun tribute that took me back to my childhood. That's the point of it... It served its purpose. Many mid 30 to 40 year olds will watch this to be transported back to a more innocent perhaps fun time in their lives.
I think you've missed the whole point of the special. And it's because you are not familiar with the original 3 seasons of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
The red and pink rangers are both in the original run. The original red, yellow and black rangers were replaced in season 2. And the pink was replaced in season 3. The newer red ranger also appears in the original movie.
Power Rangers is famously silly, corny, cheesy, and maybe even cringy. But that's probably why people (especially kids) like it.
And yes, Adults do actually watch the newer stuff. Maybe becuase it's a form of escapism.
look it up, "hip-hopkido" is an actual thing, that the actor who played zach invented, all of the actors who played rangers had stunt experiance, but of them, Walter and JDF (RIP) took it to the next level, JDF became the first american to become black belt in a specific type of martial arts, and both him and walter created their own fighting styles, and taught them to many many people.

My cousin and I were stoned to the bone, neither of us knew anything about this anniversary special, it was #9 on trending movies on Netflix and I convinced him we should watch it to make fun of it. In my adult life I have allowed myself to cry four times: when I had my first serious relationship breakup, when my grandmother died, and while watching Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always. I fucking cried twice during the viewing. This was a masterpiece. It was silly and bad, but despite these disadvantages it made me feel tremendous emotions.

RPM might actually be my favorite season if I’m being honest. They managed to take the source material which is INCREDIBLY campy and weird (until the last few episodes that is) and made one of the darkest and most gripping stories Power Rangers have ever had. This was done while including some of the funniest moments that I still laugh at now, such as Ziggy doing a partial fourth wall break when mentioning the giant explosion after they morph and the line of, “I’M SCOTTISH!!!!!” xD

It was for the 30th anniversary. They even made sure they didn’t make it long enough to be a feature. As a mighty Morphin fan, I loved it!
Part of me is happy that they did this reunion special, but with only a few of the actors available it kind of makes kid me cry a little more. 😢
Not only is it not a soft reboot of the franchise and is just an anniversary special…it’s also a direct sequel of the events that occurred in “In Space”.
I understand Power Rangers not being on your radar..but it’s been a continuing franchise that’s been steadily building its lore for decades, and has even spawned a successful multiversal comic line that’s canon.
This feels like its coming from a place of…”ignorance” is a strong word, but..that.
A 10 year old now would not like to watch some 40+ people playing power rangers with this type of quality tho 💀
