I would've loved to have been the proverbial fly on the wall just to eavesdrop on all those recording sessions and witness how everything went down! Those Ratt and Poison albums were the soundtrack to my 80's teenage years!

The producer/engineer interviews are always way more entertaining than the artist interviews from this era

I can listen to you and Jim Faraci talk about classic hard rock gems all day. Reminds me of sitting at a table with a drink while listening to two friends talking.

Blozter is definitely a solid , solid drummer regardless of what a drama queen he may be…those Ratt songs wouldn’t be the same without his groove drumming…..
I’m finding myself going back to those albums for a listen after hearing these interviews. fun to try and hear the little nuggets of audio magic that maybe normal people wouldn’t hear

Beau Hill painted him as being a jerk, but Beau doesn't consider drum parts as songwriting contribution, so why would Bobby get along with him?

  • @termsofusepolice

Convenient pairing... As I would place Ratt at the very top and Poison at the very bottom of the 80's glam/hair metal scene.

  • @seagullpoet

Always liked Heaven. Any release was damn rowdy.
DIO sang backup to one of their songs.
Lita Ford, in her book, tells about a shower scene with one of those guys too.

I also thought it interesting how the debut Poison and Ratt albums all went 2X platinum within 1 year of their respective releases, but it would take another several years after that for each album to go 3X platinum. It's like they hit hard in the beginning with a bang, and then quickly leveled out and sold at a slow but even-keeled pace after that.

Actually, "RATT POISON" would be a GREAT name for a tribute band.

As a drummer I also had to KNOW the song in the studio....bass player could hang with click track ...so no SCRATCH tracks in studio....I recorded MYSELF ONLY...great experience because...learning and studio chops...pre production must be together

Blotz was truly amazing. He and Lars used to practice together in LA, much to the dismay of James Hetfield who wanted nothing to do with Ratt as the thought they were lowbrow.
Robbin may have had a stage ego but he checked it aside in the studio. I think he flew from Tokyo to NYC to recut a guitar track while the rest of the band returned to LA.
I think this originated from Atlantic signing Ratt, Robbin stated if Atlantic was good enough for Led Zeppelin than it was the apex for Ratt and they had to be professional and maintain the contract.

It was Cheap Trick, Poison and Ratt in Minneapolis, back in the '80s. CT rocked, then Poison refused to come out. After a while, Ratt came on. Someone threw a painted bedsheet of Poison on stage and Steven PEarcy ripped it to shreds and gave the finger to it.
Poison never did come out. I never knew what the story was.
