Ooohhhh! Oohhh, the ... melody, the ... ahh, the ... the harmony, James! Oh yes! The music, James! Aahhhh!
Thank you Mr Bond! What a performance!
I cannot find all the words!
"Well, my dear, I shall get you a dictionary so you can keep on improving your English vocabulary." (To paraphrase the opening scene to The Spy Who Loved Me.)
That's what was great about the 70s: Pop was fun. Bond was fun, not a robot. Nothing too forlorn or God-forsaken.
Hygur: I did not say it was great - I said it was fun. Pop was not morose then. It wasn't self-centred, self-regarding, self-pitying nonsense.
Hygur: as for Bond movies back then, in both the 60s and 70s, Bond oozed charm and had a sense of humour. People got their money's worth going to the cinema: they were entertained. The Bond movies in those days were all tongue-in-cheek. Even the Cold War had fun poked at it.
It's 2024 now and I still think ABBA is one of the best pop groups ever.
Even me.. I play their music 🎶
I'm a Fan since 1975, love them till today❤
We can tell the comment year by the TH-cam time stamp.
I'm 14 and they are one of my favorite pop groups. Their music will continue to inspire a new generation.
Easily one of the best, if not the best.

Its true
This band has like 20 #1 hits
sold more albums then the Beatles
A Jacko sold more than Abba, PS
Nobody sold more albums than the Beatles. This is well documented. Just look at the world's biggest record market, the USA. The Beatles leaving everyone trailing in the dust when it comes to record sales, and that included Abba, Michael Jackson, Rolling Stones, you name it. The only one who is relatively close (due 45s sales) is Elvis Presley.
Were Abba big in the USA. Stephen H ?

One of many all time ABBA classics
I loved SOS in the 70's it made me feel so good. It was amazing growing up with ABBA.
ABBA's best song in my opinion , never gets old. Absolute classic from this amazing group. They truly are the best pop band in music history and there will never be another one like them.
Full agree. Jesus is that chorus ever catchy, lol.
100% Agree
So hard to decide which is the best song of ABBA .They have too many.
I agree this is my favorite song by them.
Beautiful
I saw them live in Boston in 1979. Their flight was delayed and the concert started late. As they went on stage, they apologized even though it wasn’t their fault. They said “we’re going to make it up to you!” And boy did they ever! Best concert I ever saw!!
Even more amazing. Their little private jet had to contend with one of the most damaging tornadoes to hit New England in modern times. The 'Windsor Locks Tornado' cost three lives and decimated a section of Bradley Airport. ABBA had to divert to Manchester. Conn. The stress of that flight caused Agnetha to become ill and the Washington concert the following day had to be cancelled.
Supposedly, that was the VERY flight that caused Agnetha to have severe anxiety about flying...between NYC and Boston during the North American tour.
Какой вы счастливчик! Я обожаю АББА💝

Even John Lennon said that this was one of his favorite songs! That’s proof to show how many people love ABBA out in the whole world. I mean Queen Elizabeth’s favorite song is Dancing Queen!
As well as Princess Diana's. I also believe Queen Silvia of Sweden.
And John McCain’s. If there’s one thing liberals and conservatives can passionately agree on, it’s that ABBA is the GOAT
Well that went well with Beatles song "Help"
According to bassist Glen Matlock, the intro to the Sex Pistols' "Pretty Vacant" is based on the "bomp-BOMP-bomp-BOMP" piano line in this tune.
ABBA once heard one of John Lennon's songs and said, that's not too bad!

The more closely I listen to ABBA, the more I realize those four were operating at a level way beyond what most musicians ever are. Such complexity and arrangement!
really? complex? how much music have you heard in your life. Listen to this from 55 seconds in to the end, .. fast forward a little in to about 55 to skip the first part. th-cam.com/video/vZDlZwKD4bs/w-d-xo.html This is what Complex is in modern music. as for old music its J S Bach.
THIS is a little softer and easier version of try complexity, Blutech - Prayers for Rain th-cam.com/video/B7CFE3OA9HE/w-d-xo.html listen to this and dont shut off early, and youll know what super intelligent complex music is.

These guys have so many top tier songs. Can you all believe I didn't really know much at all about Abba until a couple weeks ago? I get a taxi every morning to town and it's about a 15-20 minute ride each way. It's always the same driver and he's got a playlist he always has playing and it's got some abba songs on it. I kept noticing that I'd always get one of their songs stuck in my head so I decided to look them up here and found a bunch more of their songs. I'm starting to get hooked and I'm beginning to bond with their music. They just make some top notch music that transcends genre bias. For instance, I'm big into rock and even heavy metal, but Abba is just so good at song writing that it doesn't matter to me that they're a pop band which isn't my normal genre. It's just that good. I'm glad my driver had a few Abba songs on the radio or else I never would have discovered alot of this stuff.

ABBA is timeless, indeed.
This is one of the greatest pieces of pop ever made in the entire history of music.
Along with Tears For Fears, I agree.
2:32 Their swift lyrical combo here always kills it for me.
The slight imperfections, the naivety in the English lyrics + the accents just add to the genuine melancholy. This is a pop masterpiece - perfect arrangement, perfect performance. Stunning.
It has two different choruses, one after the other?
Do you think that the accented singing adds a little more poignancy to the English lyrics because of the potential emotional sensitivity of anyone in an unfamiliar environment (and who thereby must have an accent) who also suffers a relationship break-down there? And who is thus cast even more adrift? (Who would likelier be without the same levels of support that someone without an accent would have).
And what imperfections in the grammar or style of the lyrics do you detect? I do not see any.
If you compare how letters and postcards were written in the mid-70s to those of today (if people still write letters and postcards!), then you would see a lazier attempt at writing generally today that's clumsy with wording.
The net effect of that is a tendency towards insincerity and aloofness, because we are all told to rush around like headless chickens today - and letter-writing is a chore. Unlike yesterday. The art of song-writing has already died though.
(In S.O.S., the protagonist singer, as I understand, is still on the periphery of her former boyfriend's life - down, but not out!)
In S.O.S., the protagonist singer is still on the periphery of her former boyfriend's life. She's down, but not out.
That is what the lyrics convey to me. And no break-up of a strong relationship was ever a fait accompli - that's the message of this cleverly written and well-meaning song.
It's a pop song - but one of great depth. A song that most everyone can relate to / can connect strongly to - and yet would fear to hear (on a personal level). Hope and despair (the emotional plea for love to wake up again). Amazingly bitter and sweet with respect to lyrics and music. Powerful combinations.
Dustshoe Your posts have something scientific about them. They are stringently beautiful in a way.. Ever considered writing in a scholarly journal? :)

I think there’s something wrong with me. I’m a metalhead and I’ve been stuck in an ABBA loop for two days....
There's nothing wrong with acknowledging great musicianship. ABBA were brilliantly skilled musicians.
Most metal musicians respect ABBA and metal songwriters have created riffs based on pretty much all ABBA's tunes. ze melodies.. And pretty much all metalheads that i know binge some ABBA once in a while, or do it regularly to get some variety from whatever metal they listen to. It's usuallly young teens that are way into some metal sub enre that will hate on ABBA.. Zealous youths.
@@LoudnessJP Well no one is ever going to call me a youth again, that's for sure....I'm 43 in a few days...

I was born in the 80s, and I love Abba and am listening to it still in 2023 and my daughters are under 11 years old and I'm showing them the music of the past when music had meaning and feeling. Nothing beats the good old classics.
❤🌹
ABBA - SOS (Official Music Video) 0848am 3.8.23 this song was originally entitled: fartfartfart!!! and details an unfortunate episode of the old the abba gang when, after mistakenly eating some fly agaric, the lads...... and lasses... of the entourage went ape shit and smashed up most of oslo on some berserker escapade much to the local authorities' consternation.... footage of the 1975 debacle can still be found on you tube (somewhere)..... sadly entitled the: fnarr fart riots of oslo...
Sorry about your mom and god bless you. She had great taste. ❤😢😢😢❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😂😂
My fave ABBA song.
It never gets old for me.
its best not to compare abba to the beatles. enjoy them both, and save yourself a lot of stress.
My favourite ABBA song. It’s a masterpiece of pop.
Certain songs are just too good to describe and this is one
True words👍
Die meisten sehen es anders! S.O.S . rangiert eher im Mittelfeld! Ich finde es aber auch spitze!
And they were masters of pop!

If ABBA doesn't get you interested within the first verse, they'll have you absolutely *hooked* the moment they launch into the chorus.
It's the 12-string that really does it.
Best intro ever made!
@Anni frid Lyngstad put asterisks on both sides of the word
It's what my mum called their "thump and tinkle" (she liked them): they have a gentle, tuneful verse, then a punchy chorus. (I think Chiquitita is probably the best example, but they're nearly all of that pattern. Though they can do other styles - instrumental like Arrival, heavy rock like Does Your Mother Know/Hole in your Soul/Sole). But the verse and chorus sums them up best, I think. Even my favourite, Thank You for the music.
Two classic voices and two great songwriters, what a team!!!!
I am from the future...2024 ...ABBA still rules ❤
After severe shoulder fracture this song gives me so much joy and hope. I am listening to this song right now during my sometimes painful exercises. Thanks ABBA for all since I was 14 years old, now 62 years. Were did time go ABBA? Thanks for all of your fantastic songs, may God always bless you. Greetings out of Free State of Bavaria, Germany!
It's hard to imagine this song performed like a sea shanty
Somehow I prefer it sung in 3/4...
bdg reference lol
Wish they were playing with a hook hand :/
who tf is that
@@TheUltimateCrash1990 brian david gilbert did an abba parody album for halloween. it's wonderful beyond words, you must listen yourself
Anyone agree that this song is one of the greatest pop songs of all time
Paddy Mitchell absolutely agree
Yep, it's total pop genius - never tire of hearing it
So many to choose from but could well be,it's a wonderful pop song.
Yes - but I still think there are 4 better songs than this that ABBA made - Dancing Queen, The Winner Takes it All, When I Kissed the Teacher and Lay All Your Love on Me!
Paddy Mitchell mm
august still listening to abba
No need to ask who's still listening til now. It never fades
Aug.2024❤
No one can ever match these women's voices
Annette C. Dalton they have beutefull song voices
Rocio Jurado had a better voice
They are born naturals.
Their voices aren't that remarkable. They're certainly not bad but definitely not on some unparalleled plane of existence lol
razrv3lc, yes, but their voices compromise each other, and work well with the songs.
What a masterpiece. What a strong melody. This is a real treasure.
Can’t tell my mates, but I absolutely love this song!!!
Why ?
Anyone here today? ❤
