    The kind folks at Kmise were nice enough to send me this new Tenor Guitar. I was excited because there are not a lot of budget tenor guitars out there.
    This one is not made in the "traditional" sense because most tenor guitars have a very thin neck. This neck is even about the same width as their baritone ukulele. So, I decided to do a little side by side comparison!
    I hope you enjoy the video and find it helpful if you are interested in a steel string instrument. It's a great instrument to learn if you ever wanted to learn 6 string guitar but either from injury or arthritis find the 6 string too hard to play. It's also a great instrument to play various types and genres of music. You can restring and then retune to play like a mandoline or the traditional Tenor guitar tuning of CGDA.
    I found it to be very well made and the neck is smooth as silk. No sharp edges and the case is a BIG improvement from the ones they used to ship with their instruments. I bought three kmise products before this one and I can see a vast improvement.
    I don't think you can go wrong with this guitar. I do play it in this video but stay tuned for a full song video using this guitar.
    Please like, share and subscribe to be kept apprised of my future videos.
    I am NOT an amazon affiliate and make no money should you buy this instrument but I am providing the link to amazon as a courtesy to the company for sending this instrument to me for review and to play.

    I bought the cheapest baritone ukulele on Amazon and have tenor Banjo strings on it. I use tenor Banjo instead of tenor guitar because they are scaled a bit longed which gives me more options for tuning(they are brighter as well). I generally tune standard CGDA, but have tuned up to DGCF. Mine has no truss rod and after several years it's still intact. I've been on the market for a new one, preferably one with a truss rod. I'm considering a bass ukulele as well considering they are generally the same scale length as the baritone.

    Very cool comparison. They look very similar but there's a HUGE difference in sound due to the strings and scale. I figured they would be different but honestly... not that different. Wild. This was a really informative video. Well done on all accords. Hopefully it goes viral. :-)

    I liked the tenor guitar best. It sounded like the baritone ukulele was slightly out of tune though, but I could be wrong. The tenor guitar was very pretty sounding. It's now on my Christmas list. Thanks for the demonstration.

      Maria Calfa-DePaul ...my most viewed video is a Kmise review from like 3 years ago. It’s a great ukulele and I still have it! When I was doing in person lessons I made a habit of bringing it so the parent or family member could participate. It’s a great uke!
      But yeah...I want that tenor guitar bad. In the last couple months I’ve gotten a beautiful new Gretsch guitar, a uBass and two banjos! I think I ought to hold off for a bit 😬😝

    • @MariaCalfaDePaul

      Lucky Uke That’s awesome to hear about the kmise video and yeah I really think even now they’re making a better product I mean My first one the edges are a little rough but this one is just like butter it’s really smooth and beautiful and a gig bag is a big improvement. And good luck holding off on getting the tenor guitar it really is a bargain just so you know and the tenor guitar world this is the least expensive one you’re going to get that actually sounds good

    The tenor is so much brighter with its steel strings. The ukulele sounds muted and has noticeable nylon strings. I’m going to the guitar this AM to check them both out. I’m open to either but would lean toward the tenor given my druthers. Thanks for the review..

    I actually just purchased a Recording King Dirty 37 Tenor guitar. It's alot larger then the one you had in the video. What I want to ask you is I also have mine set to D G B E and I'm not to fond of the sound because I actually busted one of the strings right out of the box and restrung the entire guitar with what I believe to be the wrong gage strings. 🤦‍♀️ I wish I had never done that because now I don't know what strings were on it originally. Can you tell me what strings you would use for that chord setting? Great video also, thank you!

    the Kmise ukulele is kinda meh, so-so. i got a Kala baritone brand new for $200 on Reverb, and this thing is solid and beautiful, holds its tuning great, and has unbelievable projection and resonance. i still can't believe it was only $200.
    Kala also makes an amazing tenor guitar with the wider nut (38mm, vs the usual 30-32mm small nut of a tenor guitar), solid spruce, also for $200. thing is, it comes in standard tenor tuning, so if you want to tune it Chicago (DGBE, like baritone uke), you have to recut the nut to accommodate the lighter strings.
    for the extra $100 or so, i went with Kala. but Kmise is good if you're a very early beginner, or if you want something for a kid to start on.
    but if you're an intermediate student, i really suggest Kala. it's just a much more solid instrument.
    then later you can get into stuff like Pono, which offers quality instruments starting around $500 or so.

    • @MariaCalfaDePaul
      @MariaCalfaDePaul  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for all the info. I’m sure it will help folks make an educated decision. I do have that Kala and i keep it tuned CGDA and then I have blue ridge which I like very much too. Recently got the REcording King Dirty 30’s series tenor as I wanted to buy something that was a little more knock around then the blue ridge. I like it. The Kmise is a great option for a travel one. It’s so light and the cost is so inexpensive that you could also get as if I with a different set of strings and even make it madolin tuning or open D.
      Enjoy your tenors !

      Sorry I don’t have the baritone anymore. And the tenor is packed away. You might be able to find it on line but I pretty sure that they are the same from what I recall and also they are definitely much wider than your typical tenor guitar. In fact most like the same as all of their baritones.
      Good luck and hope that helped a little

      And I forgot to mention that it is called a tenor guitar because it has steel strings. The original type of tenor guitars had a very skinny neck and were tuned CGDA. THen other tunings emerged like this one which they call Chicago Tuning. Then some people like to play fiddle tunes and they tune it GDAE ;which is the same tuning as the mandolin and I believe the fiddle. :)

    • @stevesstrings5243
      @stevesstrings5243 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The tenor guitar was originally developed by putting a 4-string tenor banjo neck (23-inch scale, CGDA tuning) on a guitar body. This came about because tenor banjo players were having fewer gig opportunities as band music evolved. The creation of the tenor guitar allowed tenor banjo players to play rhythm guitar without having to learn all new chords for a different tuning.
