right now 2018. where i live every park has people playing soccer. it's amazing. in my neighborhood the most popular sport has to be soccer and i live in Brooklyn ny. right now is january 2018 and i went to the park and people are playing soccer. at least 40 people. 5 years ago nobody played outside in the winter. so soccer has grown so much here in NYC.
How come they dont show up for nyc city games then. Everytime i see them on tv that stadium is kinda empty. I want to see them attend. I want to see mls grow? Is it changing now over there nyc. Are people going to the games more
Soccer is growing in the US. But I've just learned it completely and have only been to one match. Going to that match is a lot more exciting than watching it on the tv and is too confusing hearing it on the radio
Really hoping that soccer catches on in North America and more and more people start supporting their local teams. In my home country, Finland, football/soccer is even smaller, but I just love going to cheer for my local team. Sure, I still have other favorite teams abroad, but it's great to have your "own" team to support as well.
it's not the world's greatest city . those buildings aren't very different from the ones in eastern europe...soviet style, grey and boring...except they're much bigger . new york city is overrated
Andy Lauder oy. The Art Deco style of the Chrysler Building, the Empire State, the Woolworth Tower (the world's first skyscraper), the New York Life building with the gold roof, the awesome new Bank of Amerca tower, Frank Gehry-designed high rises....... nothing like blocky Soviet architecture.
I lived there.. Great architecture, shit nightlife, good for playing football. London's got more about it though than NY even though now they are both bloated and overpriced these days.
living in new york, everything theyre saying is true. The sport is growing very quickly. I recently moved to the U.S from Europe and i thought it would be easy. But its very hard!
I'm an American. 4th gen Swede/Irish/Englishman/Spaniard/GermanAs soon as I saw my first game, I was four, I was a football/Soccer/Futbol fan. It was an Arsenal game and my older brother was an Arsenal supporter. I fell in love with the game and Arsenal the moment I laid eyes on the pair. Some American fans are just as passionate as European fans.
Love ny as a european, its a good thing football is getting more and more popular in the us. Lots of Ajax fans in nu too. In central park pretty much every day some (native) dutchy's play football.
Hey guys, how are you? I'm here 10 years later but giving a shot. Im from Brazil and traveling to NY in march. I was wondering where the best public park to play soccer in the city at any time of the day. Is there any? Any tips for a foreigner who wants to play just for fun on a couple of days in NY?
the new dc united stadium is getting built in the Buzzard Point area in the central of DC, it will be opened for the 2016 season. The stadium will be done in 2015 probably.
I only learned the basic rules of the game a couple months ago. I've never watched a full match. I follow so many sports avidly (soccer, rugby, American football, hockey, basketball) it's hard to find time for new sports. Definitely looks fun. I'll sit down and watch a couple games some time soon. I just don't see myself following following the AFL. Especially since they don't show it here in the US. It's hard enough finding SuperRugby matches online.
@MrBh17 actually it is in the United States. Building a big stadium allows people to actually go to football matches and experience the game. Bigger stadiums allow more people to get familiar with the game, that way football becomes more and more popular.
What I mean is that the popularity of the MLS and the U.S. national team is fairly new. Americans have been watching European football for a long time.
That fact that there are differing opinions as to the epicenter speaks to the growth of the sport. However, I grew up playing streetball in NYC since 1980's brother. Peace out
I also want it to be respected considering that it is the greatest sport in the world. Just because we call it something different doesn't mean we don't respect it. As a matter of fact many Americans who are fans of the sport actually call it "football".
The guy says they have the best stadiums but from what I've seen they hardly ever get sold out, Seattle sounders and Portland timbers have good fans though
Football is constantly growing in the States. There's so much talk about the LA Galaxy and the New York Red Bulls, but when you look at the heart of US Football, the major growth of the game is in the Northwest. Portland Timbers, Vancouver Whitecaps, San Jose Earthquakes, and Seattle Sounders. NYRB isn't even in New York, so there's currently no football club playing professionally in NY. Cosmos won't begin play until this fall. Support for MLS is in WA, OR, and BC...not NY or LA.
I'm English and i live in NYC and u personally think that European football is still a lot better, but I think that the enthusiasm that the Americans have towards football and becoming better at it is huge.
As much as I want the MLS to grow, I can't see it happening with the clubs' attitudes to transfers. Yes, buying these big names helps in the short-term, but in 5 years, they'll have retired and you're back to square one. If you can attract or bring through younger players who want to grow and develop with the league, it will be of more benefit imo.
Max MacGregor That's sort of my point; the way of doing things currently is in no way good for the MLS. The sooner it can shed the image of being football's retirement home, the better.
I am not from US. But belive me. The last 6 years and specially the last 2 years since the World Cup football in America grew a lot. Even MLS is transmitted acrose the ocean in Europe. We are hearing about itand for a lot of americans that i met is like a fashion, like the new cool trend. 10 years ago americans rarely spoke about football. And now you have it on TV and it is like a battle between the conservative old people and the young ones of soccer becoming more popular than the local sports. And this Copa America came like a glove at the exactly right time to boost the sport even further in the US. 16 years ago you did not give a f..k about loosing at soccer but now it is a national drama when the team USA is loosing. The next step is for the all the clubs in US to establish a die hard fan base and to exapand to mutliple leagues so you can have a big player pool of your own. That is when the sport will be Nr. 1
I'm from England but unfortunately I have never visited the US! But I think you lot are doing a really good job of Soccer there! The MLS is improving all the time and the National Team are In my opinion a very decent side, there just as good or better than England at the moment :O. But if you want to reach good levels you got to call it "Football" and change field to "Pitch" and cleats to "Boots" then your doing Well :P Good Luck USA
fuck i love soccer like he said in the video just bring a soccer ball and no matter if you can't speak the same language it just unites people. its so beautiful :')
Between the last rankings and the current rankings, England only played 1 match which was a draw against Brazil yet we dropped 9 rankings. We all know that Brazil are a good team but they were ranked 19th at the time (before they won the confed cup) so we dropped a lot of places at the time. You can't always trust the rankings. USA on the other hand had lots of WC qualifiers and the gold cup so it's not a surprise that they have more points. So I think England are still pretty far ahead.
i would think the epicenter of football would be somewhere in the southwest, the hispanic culture has a big impact on soccer in america, most hispanic kids grow up being football fans and that has really caught on for other races ethnicities, im talking about more than fans but actual street ball, playing like in europe or latin america, africa, asia
Though I agree with all the problems that you have pointed out, I think that weak national team is an exaggeration. We have good players so I can't fathom some of the performances they put in when they play for the national team. It really depends on form.
For all you out there who love to complain when Americans, and certain others, call “Football”, “Soccer”, you should know that it was the British that invented the word and it was also one of the first names of what we now primarily know of as “Football”.
I'm telling you the USA will be a football power house in 20 years. The country is big and IWW have so many cultures that bring the love of football from everywhere. Watch USA will win a World Cup in least than 40 years.
Watching the recent video copa 90 has been coming out with i don't understand how they have so many less subs than kick tv, kick tv is great and they have great hosts that are likeable and so does copa 90 to a point, they struck gold with eli but other than that.... eh
That's awesome. DC United was in desperate need of a new stadium. I went to their stadium for the U.S. vs Germany game and I've got to say it's definitely not that great of a stadium. Thanks for the info.
The reason I can't stand people that comment like you is the fact that if the U.S. shows any sign of improving in the sport it's as if you get nervous about it and try to down-play what they are doing.
right now 2018. where i live every park has people playing soccer. it's amazing. in my neighborhood the most popular sport has to be soccer and i live in Brooklyn ny. right now is january 2018 and i went to the park and people are playing soccer. at least 40 people. 5 years ago nobody played outside in the winter. so soccer has grown so much here in NYC.

@@DCUnderdog3000 lots of the city is busy/doesn't have money or time to go to games, and our attendance is around 20k which is decent during covid

Good to see that football is growing in the US !
Great video guys. Here at Football Daily our US team is Cosmos, can't wait to see them back.
sure ya do, trying to be original
Soccer is growing in the US. But I've just learned it completely and have only been to one match. Going to that match is a lot more exciting than watching it on the tv and is too confusing hearing it on the radio
Curious…what has happened in the last 8 years in terms of your love for the game?
Copa 90 have a really talented cameraman and a really talented editors cos this footage looks amazing and really professional
Really hoping that soccer catches on in North America and more and more people start supporting their local teams. In my home country, Finland, football/soccer is even smaller, but I just love going to cheer for my local team. Sure, I still have other favorite teams abroad, but it's great to have your "own" team to support as well.
I agree I support my Local Irish side before any other team
It already has caught on. Attendance to MLS matches has skyrocketed in the past few years
Proud to be a part of the soccer movement in NYC
where are those fields located at wanna go there and show off my Dutch football skills ^^
It is Shine Regardless by Ayatollah. And remember, The Game Never Stops.
Its kinda sad that the world's greatest city doesn't give a shite about the world's greatest sport
it's not the world's greatest city . those buildings aren't very different from the ones in eastern europe...soviet style, grey and boring...except they're much bigger . new york city is overrated
Andy Lauder You kidding me? You have to live in the city to really realize what makes it special
Andy Lauder Man you don't know NYC. NYC is the best
I lived there.. Great architecture, shit nightlife, good for playing football. London's got more about it though than NY even though now they are both bloated and overpriced these days.
Great so see that football is becoming popular in USA, will be nice to see them in international contests!
Gotta love these Copa90 documentaries, good stuff.
living in new york, everything theyre saying is true. The sport is growing very quickly. I recently moved to the U.S from Europe and i thought it would be easy. But its very hard!
That montage was sick!

Absolutely fantastic video. Very well done. Thoroughly enjoyed that.
Not just NY is gonna grow in football but hopefully the whole of USA
This is true. It is very inspiring to play inner city. Love it copa90!

Hey guys, how are you? I'm here 10 years later but giving a shot. Im from Brazil and traveling to NY in march. the camera shots were beautiful in this video, just a great video in general
Great video, well put together. Surprising that New York City FC got a tiny mention at the end. Surely they'll change New York soccer forever?
Copa 90 put so much effort into their videos, if you watched this, you'd think they had over 10mil subs...
Thank you. It's good to see a Brit actually support the football movement in the United States. We appreciate the support.
the new dc united stadium is getting built in the Buzzard Point area in the central of DC, it will be opened for the 2016 season. The stadium will be done in 2015 probably.
It's good to see that football is getting more and more popular around the globe
i saw tom deacon on a flight back from new york so theres almost deffo more stuff coming from copa 90 in nyc. Amazing city btw
Wow! I play on a team in new jersey and i once played a game very close to the field this was filmed on
USA in the Gold Cup final, DC United made plans for their specific stadium. The sport is really growing in the US.
I only learned the basic rules of the game a couple months ago. I've never watched a full match. It doesn't matter what you call it, we all love the game and that's why we're here. Soccer, Futbol, Football, Fußball. It's all the same
@MrBh17 actually it is in the United States. Building a big stadium allows people to actually go to football matches and experience the game. Bigger stadiums allow more people to get familiar with the game, that way football becomes more and more popular.
Are those tiempo legend 5s at 2:12?
What I mean is that the popularity of the MLS and the U.S. national team is fairly new. Americans have been watching European football for a long time.
Super cool film.
What's the song at the start of the video called????
The fans in dc are amazing! Were finally getting a new stadium for DC United!
Couldn't agree more.
What's the song at the beginning?
Could we get an update
When and where is the stadium going to be built?
That fact that there are differing opinions as to the epicenter speaks to the growth of the sport. However, I grew up playing streetball in NYC since 1980's brother. Peace out
Anybody knows where this exactly is in NYC? Flying over to the states on monday and I want to visit this ground maybe :)
Damn, I love Copa90.
I just want the most popular and greatest sport in the world to be highly respected
Great vid
He said it started off in the U.S. as a middle class sport and now it's available to everyone. Try listening before you comment on something.
Anyone know street soccer courts in NY I can play at?
NYC represent. I love my city.
I want play soccer so badly
I also want it to be respected considering that it is the greatest sport in the world. Just because we call it something different doesn't mean we don't respect it. As a matter of fact many Americans who are fans of the sport actually call it "football".
song in intro?
soccer in nyc sucks. It's definantly better in the rural places
Same thing!
The guy says they have the best stadiums but from what I've seen they hardly ever get sold out, Seattle sounders and Portland timbers have good fans though

Max MacGregor That's sort of my point; the way of doing things currently is in no way good for the MLS. The sooner it can shed the image of being football's retirement home, the better.
ANTICENA571 NYRB are trying to use their youth as well, maybe stability for expansion teams will come in time
Tbh soccer is gonna grow like look at nyrb this year we have a young an optimistic "chip on the shoulder" squad

Yeah and Italians call it Calcio. Americans call it soccer. Germans call it fussball. Your point?

Football is comfortably the world's biggest sport
What do you think of Australian Rules Football?
We call it Gay F L
fuck i love soccer like he said in the video just bring a soccer ball and no matter if you can't speak the same language it just unites people. its so beautiful :')
how did that guy get the tiempo legend 5?
But i do find it funny that the nurd stadium isnt in nuc nor the state new york...
So much jibr jabr!
They definitely have the biggest effect on it in New York.
I love NY
cause they respect the game highly
MLS teams should play in the Libertadores Cup which the biggest clubs in America plays.

trust me I'm American and I think soccer in the US will never be the king of sports in America.
It says on the channel that they have 350,000
true
as i love to play in new york
Though I agree with all the problems that you have pointed out, I think that weak national team is an exaggeration. We have good players so I can't fathom some of the performances they put in when they play for the national team. It really depends on form.
Going to America next year on a soccer scholarship!

New redbulls are in New Jersey, all the youth academy's are in jersey, event tho its 10 mins from the city that's why they say New York
I'm telling you the USA will be a football power house in 20 years. The country is big and IWW have so many cultures that bring the love of football from everywhere. Watch USA will win a World Cup in least than 40 years.
On spain his name is football,we are the best of the world
Come to the bronx
How did you know that?
I've always wondered how Copa90 make money and do all these sort of stuff
they are advertised heavily
Looks like the new Nike Tiempo Legend V at 2:11.
U can call it football or soccer it doesn't matter it's the same sport a beautiful sport and every1 can be a
