This is one of my favorite songs, so I was very happy and emotionally captivated by your reaction. ❤‍🔥💞💖💯🥰
松原 みき さん / Ms. Miki Matsubara... She made her debut as a singer in 1979 with this song "真夜中のドア / Mayonaka no Door (/ Midnight Door) ~ Stay With Me".
I really feel that this song symbolizes the transition of the era in Japan itself from the 1970s to the 1980s. I could even say that it symbolizes a "turning point". If you only look at the lyrics, it's a very sad story of heartbreak, and the female protagonist of these lyrics has been spending two or three years with that painful and empty heart.
However, this song puts the sadness of the story of heartbreak on a light and sophisticated song with a sense of tempo, and the fact that it is sung by Ms. Matsubara, who is both cute and beautiful like a modern woman, and is also a strong and solid woman, gives us a worldview that is not just sad.
At that time, the Japanese music industry was seeing a rise in songs in the genres of "folk" and "new music," which were becoming popular. There were many great songs in each genre, but when they had a sad story theme like this song, the audience would feel extremely sad and depressed. Moreover, in most cases, the protagonist who was driven to cry in the lyrics was always a "woman."
I've said it many times, but "songs that make you feel like you're in the depths of sadness" are really good songs in their own right. It's true! 👍🏻 However, songs that make you feel like this "Mayonaka no Door" were revolutionary!!
The reason this song "symbolizes the change of the times in Japan itself" is because it clearly shows the changes in Japan's social situation. The story of this song is simply about a woman who breaks up with a man of her own accord, but the regret remains in her heart and the pain has not disappeared. The point is that the female protagonist herself is unsure, but she is trying to move forward by her own determination.
In the realistic historical context of Japan at that time... the Equal Employment Opportunity Law came into force in 1972, and it was a time when even if a woman got a job at a company, it was gradually moving away from being a "結婚までの腰掛 / resting place until marriage."
(The phrase "結婚までの腰掛" was popular in the past as a derogatory term for women of this era. It was a time when it was considered normal for women to graduate from school, work in a company for 2-3 years, then retire when they got married. Because it was such a short period of time working in a company, it was called "腰掛 / Koshikake / Stool or A resting place.")
In the late 1960s, the proportion of "arranged marriages" and "free love marriages" in Japanese society was equal, and when this song was released, "love marriages" were surpassing and were increasing rapidly. 👰💑 It was an era when women could play an active role in society of their own volition, and I think the lyricist and composer created this song with a sense of the current situation.
There is no official music genre called "CITY-POP", but it is now recognized all over the world. And this song is known as one of the genres. It seems that the word was created by a Japanese person in the music industry. The Japanese-English term "CITY-POP" was coined when they were wondering what to call a hybrid song that combines rock music and folk music.
"City-pop" may be a genre that was created in Japan, but it was overseas "City-pop" fans who caused it to become a global trend. In Japan, it was reported as a happy and surprising phenomenon that became news.
There are many videos of people covering and singing this song all over the world, and one of them is a cute woman named "Ms. Rainych Ran from Indonesia". She was a TH-camr who learned Japanese songs by herself, and uploaded videos of her covering various Japanese songs in beautiful Japanese before she even understood Japanese.
Her video of her covering this song is currently about to achieve about 10 million views! This was the catalyst for her signing with a Japanese record company and making her debut as a professional singer.
This is an episode that shows the influence of this song by Ms. Miki Matsubara.
A few decades ago, it was unthinkable for Japanese songs to become popular around the world, and even now there aren't many of them, but for Japanese people who have always felt that way, I'm very happy that there are more and more songs that we can be proud of in front of the world.
In particular, "CITY-POP" is made up of urbane and stylish songs that blend into each scene, whether you're listening to it in the car or as background music in the city, and the lightness makes the listener want to tap the rhythm unconsciously, which is so comfortable!
I'd like to introduce another song in the same "CITY-POP" genre that I think is more popular overseas than in Japan.
Mrs. Mariya Takeuchi's "Plastic Love" (feat. Mr. Tatsuro Yamashita) / 竹内まりや - プラスティック・ラブ (feat.山下達郎)
    Live video --- th-cam.com/video/WpQCCB0Lpik/w-d-xo.html
This concert was a performance from her large-scale concert tour "Souvenir ~ Mariya Takeuchi Live" 22 years after her debut, and her husband Mr. Tatsuro Yamashita participated as a special guest on guitar and chorus. Since she married Mr. Tatsuro, she had been away from the public eye in music, so this was her first concert in 18 years.
Both Mrs. Mariya and Mr. Tatsuro are genius musicians, and the marriage between these two incredibly talented people is so wonderful that I personally want to certify this couple as a "national treasure." 💕💕💕
In 1984, this song "Plastic Love" was included in her sixth album, and although it was not released as a single, it was a huge hit and has many fans overseas.
Perhaps because it was included in the album, it became more popular in Japan after some time had passed. Its popularity has gone through several waves, and in 2019, 35 years after its release, a music video was produced again.💎✨
It is very rare for a song to gain such great popularity over such a long period of time and then maintain that popularity.
If you'd like, please give it a listen. 🤗👍🏻👍🏻~👍🏻
PS : I think one of the reasons why Miki Matsubara's image has become legendary is that she died at the young age of 44.
When a talented person dies young, the fans and viewers left behind are left with the feeling that "I wish we could have heard her/his voice more, more!" There have been several celebrities in the Japanese entertainment industry who died young and were regretted by society. I'm sure the people who died young also feel regret.
At times like that, I have strange delusions and think, "God must be greedy and enjoy having talented people play and sing under him! God is unfair!" I don't believe in God, but at times like that, I ask God to take the blame.
The disease that took her life was the same as mine. Moreover, we both developed the disease at the same time. Since I got that disease, I have been thinking about what it is that separates my fate from those who die. If that difference were more clear, I can't help but think that more lives could be saved. 🥺🙄🌱🍃
Well, in my case, I don't have the talent to make God want to bring me to his side, so I guess he's just leaving me alone! 🤣😁💕

@@squeakychairchannel As CITY-POP is a Japanese-English coinage, there are no clear standards or definitions, so if you search the web, you will see songs that fit that image perfectly, but also songs that make you wonder if the song is in a slightly different genre.
If you are not familiar with "City-pop", listening to Matsubara's song as City-pop for the first time is a great success! 👍🏻
If you think of this representative song as a standard, I think it will be easier to get a sense of the goodness of the genre and the atmosphere that the song imagines.
In addition to Mariya Takeuchi-san and Tatsuro Yamashita-san, who were introduced earlier, there are Yumi Matsutoya-san, Eiichi Ohtaki-san, Yoshitaka Minami-san, Minako Yoshida-san, Junichi Inagaki-san, Taeko Onuki-san, Yoshiyuki Osawa-san, EPO-san, Ami Ozaki-san, etc., as well as other band groups and chorus groups, and there are so many popular artists that I can't introduce them all. And there are so many hit songs that I can't count them all.
If I tried to recommend them to you, it would probably never end. 😱😁
I'll introduce a song that was very popular, but isn't often seen in TH-cam reaction videos. I think that songs that other TH-camrs don't pay attention to, but were popular in Japan, are fresh to viewers. ✨✨✨~✨ Recommended!👍🏻
      南佳孝さん「スローなブギにしてくれ (I want you)」
Mr. Yoshitaka Minami "Make it a Slow Boogie (I want you)" (Released in 1981)
      Studio Live Video --- th-cam.com/video/kgtoLT_beqU/w-d-xo.html
This song became the theme song for a movie, and when this song plays in the background during a scene in the movie, it feels like time is in slow motion, but conversely, there is a strange sense of acceleration, which invites you into a strange state of mind.
Minami continues to work as a musician even as he gets older, but the video I introduced is a performance from his younger days, and I chose that video because his voice is very stimulating and sexy. Yaaa~y! 😁👍🏻
