    In my magic infancy, I made a red/green dragon deck mostly around the 'Devour' mechanic. I thought it would make sense if I used all of the non creature spells I could find to make as many goblins as possible early, then eat them all for one huge Hellkite Hatchling. Savage Ventmaw and Harbinger of the Hunt didn't have the devour mechanic, but they both did so much work for me in that deck that I developed a soft spot for them. I recently made a Godzilla (Zilortha) Commander deck, and it made me very happy to put the Savage Ventmaw in it

Preyseizer was the threat that made people question if they could still win once I played it. Fires of yavimaya, eight tokens from mycosynth, burn their flyer and announce preyseizer. Generally a scoop.

  • @impendio

    I want to give some honorable mentions to great dragons that didn’t make it:
    Korvold! he’s just great and dragon noble is an awesome type line, not to mention the flavor of him eating the banquet, the gifts and the guests lol
    Ramos and Mishra’s Dragon Engines, just dumb weapons of mass destruction that somehow became deified thousands of years later and were a mcguffin all along for Urza’s master plan?
    AFR’s Dragonborns, the one humanoid dragon race we’ve gotten after all this years, we have like three different kinds of snake people, rat people, monkey goblins, all the elephant, cat and dog people but no dragon people until now?!
    Such a fantasy staple.
    And for my favorite dragon? I’m a huge sucker for japanese mythology so O-Kagachi would be one of my top ones and I also like a lot Wasitora’s lore and design, and my top would have to be Form of the Dragon, nothing beats becoming the dragon yourself!

    • @yotuel9064

      The funny thing about Dragonborns is that they aren't related to dragons.

    • @benrockefeller6334
      @benrockefeller6334 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would like to note that dragonborn are typically overshadowed by the fantasy stereotype of the most intelligent dragons having humanoid forms, so it would be cool to see more double-faced dragons that have humanoid counterparts, similar to Chromium Rule, who is my favorite dragon. Ugin is actually cooler IMO, but he has no creature cards. If they do another flashback set like origins was, Ugin would be one of the best choices for it.

    • @benrockefeller6334
      @benrockefeller6334 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It might even be cool to see dragon slayers inspired by Fairy Tail, who have powers granted by dragons and effectively become dragonborn themselves, even having the ability to become dragons as a curse for their power. I could see that happening on Tarkir or Dominaria.

Although he doesn't play the game, I gave one to my father as a little trinket for his birthday.

    Thinking of a favorite dragon is difficult.
    I think my answer is ultimately Jugan, the rising star. The fact that it was a dragon in green made it feel really unique to me (because when I first played with Jugan Khans and the atarka dragons did not exist) and the original art is fantastic. Unlike some of the other dragon spirits though, Jugan never really took off in commander so I haven't played him nearly as much as his black and blue cousins.
    My favorite dragon purely on look is Scourge of Kher Ridges. Idk how to describe it other than he looks threatening and ready to fight.

    Wow I remember having Crimson Hellkite from Mirage in my deck back when I started playing and it was the best thing ever. Not that it helped me win any more games but it was SO FREAKIN' COOOOOOL!

    Vaevictis Asmadi the Dire is still my favourite dragon ever and leads probably my favourite commander deck ever. Who doesn't love chaos warp on legs or wings?
    He started out as a dragon tribal deck because he's flipping big creatures off the top of your deck and what bigger boys are there than dragons. Also sacrificing some tasty kobolds or elves to bring more dragons to your feast is very flavourful.

    I always liked Dragonlord Dromoka. The fact that she could not be countered and she protected my board state while on my turn always appealed to me. Plus whenever I casted her I would say "DraaaNOKaaaaa"

    I was 12 when i went to a Fnm for the first time and the promo was a foil lightning dragon. It blew my mind, the art and feel was just a blast. The card has since that day been my pet card in each red deck I have made.

    Great history of the magic dragons. I watched it to the end hoping that Form of the Dragon, one of my favorite cards, appears. It is one of the funniest cards, as it transforms you into a dragon.

    Favorite dragon is a bit tough but I probably have to go with drakuseth, maw of flames. It's this big threat that mechanically I enjoy because I think it captures the idea of a dragon spreading fire everywhere very well and I just love the art for the card. 😁

    Steel Hellkite has always been my favorite dragon, and the reason is a little esoteric:
    In Yu-gi-oh!, one of the most famous cards of all is the Blue-Eyes White Dragon. And when the game first came out, for any deck that looked to win by attacking, Blue-Eyes was a must. Most lists ran at least one copy of Blue-Eyes; it was one of the biggest and easiest threats to put into your deck. Steel Hellkite, being an artifact, can go into almost every Commander Deck, and that takes me back to those days of my childhood where my parents bought me Structure Deck Kaiba, so I could have my very own Blue-Eyes White Dragon :)

    Perhaps not my absolute favorite any more, but I have extremely fond memories of Dromoka, the Eternal after pulling one in a fat pack, early on in my mtg career. Ended up putting together a pretty great casual WG +1/+1 counters deck and I was always excited to cast that card.

    Shivan Dragon was the first ever rare I pulled way back in 10th edition [I think? I got a booster pack and a Kamahl Pit Fighter deck as a birthday gift], so it will always be special to me. And now it's got a stronger, legendary version in AFR, so I'm just psyched

    I know this doesn't have anything to do with dragons but you are really good at using small natural head movements while reading a script to maintain the illusion of looking directly forward at an audience. It's a subtle pointless skill but some people don't look natural while they read from a script into a camera and for the small moments you do you nail it. Also Parun Niv is my favorite dragon. Love drawings cards.

      Thanks for noticing! It is a skill I spent a lot of time and effort on. People seem to think making videos is easy, since you just have to talk to the camera - but it does require a certain amount of polish to make it look good!

    Honestly, of all the dragons i think Lathliss, Dragon Queen is my personal favourite: not only she has a great art but also works great as a mono-red dragon tribal commander.
    Putting on board 5/5 flying tokens which can be buffed by the commander is nothing to scoff at :D

    I have a story about my favorite dragon. So, I was new to Magic and I heard about the power of Nicol Bolas. So I opened as many packs of M19 as I could afford at the time. I only pulled 1 legendary dragon, and instead of Nicol Bolas the Ravager; I pulled a “You can treat this card as a double faced Nicol Bolas” telling me it was clearly impossible to pull him from packs. The Legend I pulled instead was Palladia Mors, who is Naya colors. The Naya precon from Zendikar rising is how I got into commander and Magic in general. So I developed a sort of bond with Mors and I’ve used her in every Naya deck I’ve made since.

    Watching the video late but still would like to comment
    Tiamat. As both a D&D player and Magic player I am super excited to finally see Tiamat in the card game and am very glad that shes pretty decent. Being a Barbarian Zealot / Oath of the Conqueror Paladin of Tiamat I was, and am, very excited to get to playing her though the deck has a few revisions to go and touch ups to be made
