there has never been a bigger display of raw guts and courage.. actual pride.. step up loud mouth john fury and face egan the man... he is a thousand times than man you could dream of being
Young Master Egan, 18 years, did well against a 6ft 5ins, well-schooled, trained, lithe Bobby Well, 23 years, himself the son of a boxer. Some of the comments under, are just very harsh and unjustified.
there might be bad comments about Eagan here ,but he had alot of courage for an overweight 18year old young fella ,I wonder about the raw commenters ,did one of them even step into the ring obviously not , because if the did they would know how hard it is ,I know I fought as a superheavyweight ,and when you are hit you know you have been in a fight ,hats off to that youngfela ,he showed alot more courage than any of the keyboard warriors on here ,and another thing ,Eagan went on to be a very good heavyweight ,another thing most can't say on here
Let me tell you something Egan was as hard as 9 inch nails. When he grew up as a Teen was already working the doors! he was weighing in fully grown men for fun on a Friday n Saturday 🤣🤣. Let me tell you though Joe was and still is as humble as they come. And he's still a brute of a guy too! The Egan lads are all stand up guys way down to Tommy. Joe can be proude of what he's achieved
Joe is an absolute stand up guy. Have nothing but love and respect for him and his family. Happenend to have also met his nephew a few times and he's a real guy too. Nothing but humility and respect from the whole family. Long live the Egan name!
You are right about that. However, it really shines the light on how extraordinary the young Mike Tyson was. Amazing that an 18yo could steamroll the entire heavyweight division and become champion before turning 21. Just amazing.
Joe just a raw 18 year kid in this fight and was thrown in with the 1984 Super heavyweight Olympic Bronze Medalist Bobby Wells. Joe would go on to beat WBA Heavyweight champion Bruce Seldon and went the distance with Lennox Lewis. Joe was also one of Mike Tyson's sparring partners. Also has a fantastic book out.
I know Bob Wells very well. I'm good mates with his son. Lovely man and a gentle giant in everyday life. He went on to win an Olympic Bronze in Los Angeles 1984 It was the first time they introduced Super Heavyweights to the Olympics.
That was a proper fight , get in there and just go for it , they dont fight like that any more , the fans got there monies worth of the fight , two top blokes .
He's actually the uncle of somebody I know very well. Joe is real stand up man. Honest as the day is long. Tyson called him the toughest white man he met. Don't forget Tyson fought Botha!!! Egan name is proud and strong 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪
It takes a lot of balls to start jabbing like Eagan did from the get go, committing fully to heavy jabs despite having a long big opponent whose speed you don't know yet.
I remember watching that fight years and years ago I always admired the Irish fellas guts and always thought wells was very unsportsmanlike not to touch gloves at beginning of last round Had no idea it was big Joe Egan
I can remember being in a fight like that when your to tired to carry on but you can't give up either. I can remember people asking me after if I was alright but that must have been because I didn't look alright .
At 18 years old, Egan was raw and inexperienced. He was nowhere near fit enough either. But he missed with some haymakers that, if they had connected, would have knocked his opponent out cold. He was never to become a great boxer but he was as tough as old boots. Later, he was a sparring partner for none other than the great Mike Tyson who described him as the 'toughest white man on the planet'.
@scarred10 No it's not Club standard. It's an international bout. He mightn't have been the most gracefull or skillfull of boxers but he had more heart than the likes of David Haye or Audley Harrison. Both Tyson and Lennox Lewis said he was the hardest Sparring partner they ever trained with and neither could put him down. Forgive me if I value their opinion more than yours.
Im glad there has been some defence based comments for Egan but I disagree with considering his age nor his grit. For me he comes out of the gate in the first round with some really sharp jab work that not only put his opponent non the back foot but also gave Egan a lot of pumches landed but even significantly with his jab being impactful on some occasions. Egans right hand was big hooks and sometimes overhand, the right idea to hurt a taller opponent but it seemed that his opponent had trained to evade those licks while getting caught with jabs in the i terim. Once the jab work timing was sussed out though, Egans opponent made adjustments to counter that jab hand heavy work with sequence interrupting upwrcuts and counter punches which began the offset against Egan. Egan showed heart at a young age but his technical work was pretty impressive until he was shown to not be able to counter adjust his stradegy. Wisdom was his lesson from this bout. Great satrt though and the right idea until his number was up
He may be tough and hard but he couldnt box eggs...was he ever trained or did they grab him out of the crowd?...being tough doesnt make him a good fighter or boxer...saying that i wouldnt cross him...lol
Eagan did great. Never took a backwards step. Big reach disadvantage so had to stay close. Needed more Stamina. Had a good chin for an 18 year old. I remember not being able to make 178 and getting thrown into the 179 and up division. The 225 lb guys hit a lot harder than the 178s. Especially when they are in their 20s and you are in high school.
The roly poly Irishman, so Joe was 18, Mike Tyson was 18 and was well on his way to becoming heavyweight champ, all but for a couple of years, watching this performance what kind of sparring partner was he for Mike, or was he just a human punch bag, looks like someone who was dragged off the street n given a pair of gloves
I'm not sure if he meant he was overweight or had lots of courage With it being the true gentleman harry carpenter l like to think he meant he was tough as old boots
Joe Egan did better here then his first professional fight...Egan looked sloppy in that video. The 18 year old looked great round 1 actually won it IMO. Second round was great till he seemed to get tired.
Don't people realize Joe is an 18 year old student fighting an Olympic Bronze medallist,
Doesn't matter he comes on TH-cam saying this and that he will knock John fury out he couldn't nok a skin off a rice pudding
@@gavfreeman8797 but John Fury too scared to fight him,he declined the challenge ,for charity as well

Joe so young but fought like a real man respect 💪
That's a Hardy Buck back then ABA fights were often better than some of today's scraps and produced some good fighters too.

I fought light heavyweight as a young amateur and took some big heavy shots. Definitely felt them the next day or two afterwards

Well said mate.
'Harry Carpenter'....one of the greats !

"nothing but guts now from Egan, and he's got plenty of those".
Two absolutely fucking LEGEND fighting men! 👊🏼🍀
Lion's heart our Joe. Comes from our Manor, the Liberties, ☘️.
"Manor"😂
Bob is a legend, lovely man and won a medal the same year as Seb co. Not half the recognition he deserves 🤝
Good fight. Thanks for uploading.
Wells won a bronze medal at 84 Olympics. It was a great punch. Can't seem to find it on TH-cam.

Bring on Joe Egan vs John Fury in 2024
He won’t fight Egan furry is scared
I met Joe Egan a couple of years ago at a boxing event in Leeds, such a sound guy.
How can you possibly say that after chatting to someone for only 5 minutes in a crowded room?? Don`t be so naive.
@@mjh5437 it was actually 10 minutes.. don’t be so presumptious
Good fight for young kid
How can anybody slag an 18 year old kid off for this performance . Sound very content with their life’s 😂

WONDERFUL EVEN AT 18 YEARS OLD , JOHN FURY STAY CLEAR OF THIS GUY AS HE IS BIGGER NOW .
Cracked me up when the narrator said this rather rolly polly figure of Joe Egan lol
"Roly poly"
and ' hes got plenty of guts'
Joe throws punches like me when I'm fighting in a dream.
Thats quality😂😂😂😂

Joe egan
..tuff as they come. A bad man for sure
Hilarious, the Irish took one "ell of a beating" 🤣😭😅😂👍. Brain was never the dame again.
It goes to show, why he became Mighty Mike Tysons main sparring partner.
He was only 18 here, and starting out, but tough as nails, a real slugger.

Egan trained on coddle and rashers by the look of him.
Tough as old boots is Joe
Superb battle.
Remember folks, Joe used to spar with Tyson 🤡🤡🤡🤡
Doesn’t mean he “didn’t spar with Tyson” tho 😅🤦♂️ your a goof ball… he sparred him a few times my father was there at the time of 2 of them… 🤡
yeah, of course you were
Egan is a warrior. Such courage and tenacity - even as a very young man.

Well done Joe Eagan ,bags of courage

If Some of Egan's early shots had connected wells would have been sparked out in the first round great fight.
@marioflavin2141
But they didn't connect.
Fkn great 👍🏻
COMICAL COMEDY GOLD NEVER GETS OLD THIS 😂😂😂😂
If you called a boxer a "roly poly" boxer these days you would get 6 months in jail under the "hurty words" act!

Fk, that's some heart and courage right there
joe closes his eyes when he throws a punch
A lot of heart
Very brave performance by Joe Egan. Went on to become a classy individual
@1who2what3where4when Agreed, but Tyson used to spar with Joe and could never knock him down. He's more of a brawler and street fighter than a boxer.
God bless Joe Eagan 🙏
Fair play to Joe 🥊
All credit to Joe Egan
Technical not the best boxers but 2 courageous tough boxers. 3 rounds at that weight going non stop is some achievement.
Got alot of respect for joe ,great upload ben fella ..all the best m8 ..💪💎👍
Why have people gotta knock Joe,he is a nice guy
Because they are losers who have never put a pair of gloves on
Fair play to big Joe 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Joe wasn't afraid to get stuck into a fight with anyone great 🇮🇪 courage

A roly poly Irishman.😂
Irish boxing greats 🙈 think you need to change this title pal 🤣
Both worriers.
@Doogie53

Pad the price for being a slugger and not a boxer and the lack of fitness was shocking
He may be tough and hard but he couldnt box eggs...was he ever trained or did they grab him out of the crowd?...being tough doesnt make him a good fighter or boxer...saying that i wouldnt cross him...lol
It was his style which would have been perfect for Pro Boxing. Some men are brawlers and some are artists. It is just the way things are.
