- If your new to boxing and your thinking about sparring for the first time and wondering what type of headguard you might want , here’s my honest opinion on the rival face saver headguard

Thanks for the honest review with both positives and negatives. I really love the rest of the Rival gear I've got and was thinking about this face saver headgear to get sparring without risking messing up my face. Thanks for the insight!
Your very welcome brother, since that review that headguard has been through at least another 100 rounds of sparring , still no problems at all, I’ve noticed a few more blind spots where if your in a particular position you can’t see, that’s mainly because I’m a southpaw and we tend to use different lanes than orthodox but that does give me a couple of blind spots but nothing major , appreciate your comment my friend 👍🥊

hey love the review was looking to buy this headgear was wondering what sizing would you recommend for this headgear? as the sizing options i are quite unclear on what size would fit you and cover your face well as i dont wanna get it and it ends up being too big or too small so it moves alot or is too tight
My honest opinion is if you can try one on, I have the small version because I have a pea head, I’m lucky enough to have a pro shop near by, most decent websites have a sizing guide though , if you have an average size head for an adult a medium would probably suit and there’s quite a lot of adjustment on the Velcro straps at the back to be honest my friend 👍🥊
Ill be honest its not really a good headsaver. It is much heavier than an avg facesaver. Its literallt 1lb on its own. My head is already big wearing that clunky headgear its now a pumpkin and really easily hittable. Whole point you want in sparring or fight is to avoid the punches as much as u can. With a reg headgear id be able step back or evade the punch in tine, say good bye to that ur going to get hit with that on. Too big too clunky.. if ur looking for a facesaver to protect ur nose or mouth... check decathalon facesaver. Instead of a pad, its a durable see through plastic which can take alot of impact, ive tested in sparring really works, even a top headgear reviewer reviewed on youtube. Check it out!
Hey brother appreciate your comment and I agree it is a little on the heavy side , it serves its purpose for myself though , to be honest I shouldn’t even be sparring anymore with the damage I have in my neck from 40 years in combat sports , so anyone who does spar with me at my gym knows that anyway so they go super light with me , I personally dislike headguards altogether I’d rather spar without one my friend
@@coachcraiguk but with such a clunky headgear like that , it'll be straining your neck to begin with. Wayy too heavy than it should be. It's literally a pumpkin on your head. Find better lighter facesavers than it. I got it cuz rivals a good brand and heard good things about It....but holy fuck did I get pieced up with that pumpkin on my head...sorry just not good at all
Have you ever gotten hit hard in the nose with this headgear and felt it?
Hey good question the answer to that is yes I’ve been hit in the nose area with this on and no I’ve not felt it, I’ve heard people give this a bad review I personally like it 👍🥊
I don't like to wear head gear becos sometimes the head gear will prevent me seeing clearly. Without head gear I will be more alert when sparing...Thanks coach
I have to be honest I don’t like them either for the same reasons, I make everyone wear them in my gym and the insurance I have dictates that they do so I also lead by example but I prefer not to , however if your going to fight most amateur organisations will make you wear one so good to get used to it as well 👍🥊
Hi coach not bad head gear i had one that i used for light sparing and compare to other more expensive ones The only problem was the cracking on the leather
I’ve not had it long enough to experience the cracking yet , I’ve only done about 60 rounds in it, thanks for the heads up though il give it some leather balm occasionally 👍🥊
How do these compare to the perspex face shields?
I have to be honest I’ve never used one with a Perspex face shield so I couldn’t give you advice on that although very similar I would imagine 👍🥊
