I have a copy of this EP ‘Champion Version on vinyl. 1 of just 500 released. One of my treasured records. Stumbled across it in a second hand record store in Soho in 1999, in fact all 3 EP’s were there on vinyl!! I came out in a cold sweat. Went straight in to my automated record buying mode… and just walked to the counter and handed over my credit card…I wasn’t gonna leave without them!
Now that is one hell of a score. Any idea what they are worth now?
@@TheThamesmenToo Unless they’re getting well paid in royalties I can’t imagine very much. They split up 2004 owing 1.2 million to their record company. Such a shame because they were so brilliant.

Heard this for the first time round a friend's flat one evening after a few too many flaming Drambuies. I was like a nodding Churchill dog by the end of the track. Went straight into Inner Meet Me (my favourite Beta band song) and finished with Gomez's Tijuana Lady. Crawled home happy that night.
We have had nights like that !
This Band makes me feel happy. No other band does that for me!

The Beta Band are up there. The 3 e.p's would be one of my desert island discs.
After they disbanded in 2004, Steve Mason went solo 2 of the others, reformed with the original singer Gordon Anderson and became the Aliens.

He also recorded under Black Affair and King Biscuit Time "I walk the Earth" is a real bass speaker tester.
The Aliens released 2 albums, good and odd on both.

I really liked this song. It does have an old 60's vibe which I really like. Nice one. Any of the other Scottish bands I have listened to involved Pipes and Drums. LOL Clanadona comes to mind. I am not a musician but a Tribal Belly Dancer for 18 years so I have listened and danced to all sorts of music. It was just a hobby but we did dance at a lot of festivals, fundraising and weddings. I have hung up my tassel belt for now. Between Covid and all my dance injuries it is just not happening right now.
I have a couple of suggestions for your Thamesmen Too channel.
I mentioned Dinner with Rush which a number of reactors have done on their main channel.
Also, a Canadian band called Keram. There is a live performance The Devil knows me well featuring Alex Lifeson. It's filmed in a bar in Toronto. Very different music than Rush. Alex would like to sit in with new upcoming bands. The song has a funky vibe and Alex's solo is masterful. He really is a guitar God. Also a song called Lager and Ale by Kim Mitchell who fronted the band Max Webster. It is the altimate Canadian pub crawling song. Ah the good old days. LOL

Can only watch and like once, but I can comment a 100 times. Brilliant. It is surprisingly entertaining to watch 2 Brits swaying and nodding to Scottish music. I had No familiarity with this track and little experience with The Beta Band. LOVE this track. Absolutely killer. Thank you for introducing us to it. Now we need a TTM catch phrase to start the listening experience. Maybe "Let's give this one a spin." That one might be copyrighted but damn the torpedoes I say.

They did 3 albums 4 if you include the Three EPs. However, the also did many comedy sketches. Personal favourite is Chalk & Cheese a sort of 70s Amercian good cop bad cop sketch. Favourite of mine are smiling, she's so wonderful (excellent music video, so hypnotic) & round the bend. Musically round the bend is probably pants, but for those struggling with mental health conditions such as social anxiety will relate to this tune! The Aliens was a spin-off band & Steve Mason (lead singer) still performs today. So underrated, but, yes, 90 degrees to the mainstream. Seen them live numerous times & they were amazing best band I've watched live!

So wierd I was listening to this just a few days ago for the first time for years . Decided to go Thru my CDs az and listened to them after babyshambles. Thamesman too is gonna be fun.
I am thinking about revisiting that Woodentops track we always used to listen too!

Just going thru your "back catalogue" here... y'all should check out Swell - Forget About Jesus. From their album "41": "In the 1994 reader's poll it was a draw between Portishead's first Dummy and Nirvana's last Unplugged. Both of those albums gave me the chills when they came out. But somehow they didn't stand the slightest chance against the chef-d'œuvre of one of the most original eclectic bands of the 90's." 'nuff said, trust me. (altho "Forget..." isn't my fave track, it's possibly the best introduction to their sound; that entire album is a masterpiece, in the opinion of many)

Yeah, really is quite an incredible build. First time I've heard it, enjoyed it but it didn't grip me. I'll give it another couple of listens. At this stage though sorry it goes on the "Background" playlist. Loving the channel, more please!

Early Gomez was great. George here, I found as it went on it became a bit repetitive, maybe thats just me. I had same feeling on Tame Impala
You should give the aliens - Bobby’s song a go, the beta band went onto become the aliens, they did 2 albums up there with the beta band stuff
