    Mouth watering as always! I really can’t wait to get a fig tree! I hope you guys fared well during the hurricane. It really wasn’t as bad as it could have been. We didn’t even lose power!

      We didn't lose power, either. The winds from 10PM-3AM were absolutely brutal. It sounded like a war was being fought outside, so I don't know how the damage was as minimal as it was and we kept power. It was a bad storm, but my garden precautions saved everything but 2 dwarf tomatoes and a cucumber. I got lucky. Glad you fared well.

    With all the trees from cuttings you have is obvious you are a successful probagator

    • @TheMillennialGardener
      @TheMillennialGardener  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a very high rate of success for the first couple rounds of cuttings. The cuttings I got late winter did not fare as well and more than half failed. It's why I advocate waiting as long as practical to prune. Keep them on the tree as long as possible to keep them fresh. Cuttings can store for months and months, but the fresher they are, the higher the success rate in general.

      The ones I use are linked in my Amazon Storefront in the video description. I have a description written for them all that states what I use them for in the storefront.

    Send some of that rain my way, we are over 13 inches below normal. We have been in a drought since March. My Brown Turkey fig makes two crops a year. Unfortunately I didn't keep it watered with it's first fruit, but am giving it a through soaking once a week until we get some rain for this second crop.
    I have a question for you. My friend bought a house not far from me and it had a mature fig tree on the property, her figs are large and purple in color. What variety do you think it is. I'm going to try and air root a couple limbs, God willing I'll get a large juicy fig in future.

      Even with the 8 inches of rain from Hurricane Dorian, we are still over a foot below normal. We have been in a drought since early spring as well. Up until the hurricane, this was the 2nd or 3rd driest year on record. I’m not sure where we stand now.

      @@TheMillennialGardener You didn't answer my question about the large purple figs my friend has no idea about.

    • @TheMillennialGardener
      @TheMillennialGardener  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My pot and perma garden Mary oops, sorry! Once you start responding it cuts the full question off. The short answer is you’ll probably never know. There are literally hundreds of purple figs it could be. That is why there are so many figs with the name “Unknown or “Unk.” People move into homes where there is a random fig growing and they can’t identify it, so they call it “XXX Unknown.” You can make assumptions, but unfortunately, you’ll never be able to know for sure. There are no tell-tale leaf patterns or anything. The only way would be to submit it for genetic testing, and even the USDA has only a tiny fraction of DNA on record versus all the figs on Earth.

      @marysurbanchickengarden 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheMillennialGardener What ever it's genetics, it's one of the best figs I've ever had. I am going to try and root a few of the new shoots this coming Spring. I've not been successful trying to root them in the old method, so I'm going to try the air rooting.
      Thanks for getting back to me. The tree was already there when they bought the property, so as you said, it's anybody's guess.

    • @TheMillennialGardener
      @TheMillennialGardener  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My pot and perma garden Mary if you want a better shot at identification, I would photograph the leaves, the figs, and the figs cut open and post the photos on Ourfigs forum. You’ll never know for sure, but you’ll likely get some estimates.

    I don't know if it's the camera or not the interior doesn't look as a deep red that I've seen on others. I'm trying to decide if I want a Noir or a I 258 what are your thoughts? I live in humid raining Kentucky.

    My figs are drying on a tree. Is this due to the dry weather?

    • @TheMillennialGardener
      @TheMillennialGardener  หลายเดือนก่อน

      This can happen in climates with low humidity. It's very difficult where I live, because it's too humid and they typically will rot.
