What is Beer in Beautiful Places?
Hi, I’m Maddie! Celebrating an outdoor adventure with a beer has been a long-time tradition for me, and I wanted to create a platform for like-minded folks to come together. In my videos, I cover all types of adventures and review beer! Topics include day hiking, kayaking, travel, thru-hiking, and life on the road. In short, if you would describe yourself as an outdoorist, outdoorsman, outdoorswoman, hiker trash, nomad, or dirtbag, come on along, this is the channel for you! Welcome and cheers!

4:44 I agree! I did work for stay washing dishes for 2 hours and the food wasn't that good and I got no sleep on the dining room floor. One and done! I'd rather stealth camp in the Whites. Stop by the huts to use the bathroom and fill up my water from the spigot on the outside of the hut and move on.

The trail is going to be like that from now on so be extra careful, ok? And boogy on, Maddie. You are racing snow mid-October up there. Hurry! But carefully! Pick up a warmer fleece, extra socks, and wear plastic bags over your socks to keep your feet dryer. LIttle bit extra supplies, next time you are in town. You are going to need it and be glad to have it.

When i was in jail....they didnt give me right blanket setup. So i had no sheet. And it was freezing every day. And They put me under acs. When i got a proper setup. It made a world of a difference.A Sheet.... wool blanket and another sheet on top.....just like that.....wow!
..... And i know it seems like its nothing......but it was a huge difference. Alot of survival tips in jail. Adding stuff to your ramens....like smashed up bbq chips or cheetos.......roasting your ramens before cooking them to make chinese food. Huge difference.
And i notice you are not sleeping well.....can you get a hold of a sleep aid.....they do help so you can get a heavy sleep. Im a anti pill person......now im wise enough to know take the help when you need it.

I just about had a heart attacked when you heard you say you were going to walk to the Highland Center from the intersection of 302. Most cars have to get a running start to make it out of Crawford Notch.
You are literally 30 minutes from the town in which I grew up. I wasn't lying when I said you were in my back yard. The plan is to bang out Webster Cliff trail on Saturday. I don't know if I will make it to Mt. Pierce but that would be nice.

Terrible trail. Nice scenery. Best wishes. One of those is for you to get to soak in the heat of a wood stove when you really need it. Another is to be willing to leave the heat of the wood stove, if that’s what you know you should do! You’ve conquered so much! Now it occurs to me that, when I fell off the ladder or rather, when I’d set up the ladder stupidly, I was on the ‘phone going up there to show someone something. .you often stumble when trying to do this, yourself so be aware of that.

Yup - doesn't sound like the huts are for you, Maddie. So far, your experiences with them don't sound too favorable. You would really think they would evolve to cater to thru-hikers a little more which could be a great source of income and goodwill for them. Some basic food and supplies for purchase (freeze-dried food, snacks, peanut butter, etc.), hot beverages, etc. I would even think that if you chose not to stay INside, you might be able to pitch tent outside and pay for a meal and get some hot food.
It sounds like the staff aren't too welcoming.
I also question the "platforms" for the "pay for" camping --- not exactly convenient for thru-hikers who aren't carrying the right gear to "platform camp." It may keep you out of mud, but you don't really seem to be having difficulty finding places to put your tent.
But --- an actual bathroom, a place to get rid of trash, a place to sleep inside in exchange for a little work --- it could be worse. However, when expectation is SO different from reality, that's hard.
I guess the key is: don't expect!!! LOL.
Your $6 deal looked GREAT!!! I'm not an IPA fan (but it's really hard to find anything else here in Oregon!) but I prefer a nice, crisp lager or a porter or stout. A stout is actually like a meal. Anyway, waiting out the rain was a good idea, sleeping in a nice bed, eating good meals ... does wonders for the soul when you've been "deprived."
Keep on keepin' on --- you're doing great. This is your lifestyle right now ... soon you'll wonder how you did it all and really remember the best stuff!

Also wish you good weather for the views from the Presidential Range. By the way, it's in the Presidential Range, but Mt. Jackson is not named for President Jackson - it's named for Charles Jackson, a New Hampshire State Geologist. Be well, stay safe. 🥾

The huts have to be reserved if you want to take advantage of all the have to offer... so thru hikers and anyone else who reserves a spot would get dinner and breakfast and a place to sleep... just like you pay to stay at a hostal in order to get services there. Sorry you didnt get breakfast, but was good you got some dinner and if the weather is bad Im sure people are glad to at least be able to stay inside for the night.

My goal for my videos is to show my real experiences. It might seem like “complaining” if you’re used to the picture-perfect or romanticized version of life often shown on social media, but for me, if I only showed you the good parts of my experience it wouldn’t be honest!
PS- I’m planning to make a video that’s just all walking through nature and no commentary/Vlog/people so that might be more of what you’re looking for. That’ll be out wheni.m done hiking

Thanks for giving me a chance to clarify! I thought I said in the video that I understood it was a “you get what you get “ situation, I just personally wouldn’t do it again. With being a slow hiker, every hour of daylight is precious to me, and what I got in return for waiting around wasn’t what I expected based on what other hikers told me. So I know it was just me getting my hopes up, I was mostly just explaining my experience from my perspective in that moment!
