Pirate Adventure, was my favourite ride when I was a kid, really sad to see it go. I remember it closed lots of times and all you would see was a green gate and a sign. Maybe they will reopen it again with better animatronics and scenery
Ive had relatives who used to work maintenance on pirate adventure. One of the main reasons that it was closed down was due to a bad safety inspection which deemed it unusable. With the expansion of thomas land, it meant that there wasnt enough room for fire escapes (ironic) and hence had to be closed down as it was a safety hazard. Undoubtedly one of the best rides
The Dragon Ride & Pirate Adventure bring back so many childhood memories! From what I remember, Drayton Manor actually hired a former Disney engineer to oversee the construction of Pirate Adventure in order to properly imitate the 'Disney Magic' although I could be completely wrong about that. All the rides in the video are definitely missed particularly Apocalypse which was the theme park's landmark icon!
Gutted about Apocalypse and Pirate Adventure. Rode oth of those so many times in my teens and beyond. I've not been back to Drayton Manor in quite a long time now, but I see it is moving towards a more family oriented feel now, with thrill rides taking a back seat - they've also removed the stand up cars from the shockwave and replaced with a sit down one to lower the height requirements: that makes me a bit sad too, as that was the other legendary ride for me.
The mine train was my first ever ride that went upside down, and I didn't even realise it did! I felt so brave afterward, it's weird to think so many had a similar experience with it being their first looping coaster. Drayton used to be very innovative what with the pirate rider, the first stand-up ride and Apocalypse's floorless drop which has awesome themeing. Does anyone remember the Drayton theme song? Didn't we have, a wonderful time, the day we went to Drayton. The park and the zoo, there was so much to do, and all the rides were so much fun. The pirates were great, and so was the lake, and we all enjoyed splash canyon. Then up in the sky, we let out a cry, on the 7-Up shockwave ride!
I miss Apocalypse most of all. I never went on it, but it was a staple of the park. It was so tall that it was the first part of the park I’d see when arriving. It was a beacon that I’d made it to my equivalent of Disneyland, and now it just won’t be the same.
Loved this video, know you posted this a while ago now 18 months ago-but just subbed! But where was the dark ride:The haunted Crypt dark ride, from 1970-2001?? which was later replaced by an indoor play area. I'm sure you heard about tat in the old Pirate Adventure building wold be another dark ride but wouldn't be a water one so I wonder if it would be a trackless one instead-last thing I heard was like 8 months ago 🤷🏻♂
G force is currently in storage in the Netherlands, and it is possible it could find a new home one day. Until it does, we are going to have to ride the clone in dream city in Iraq.
Took my son camping there for two summers in 2012 and 2013. Sad that so many great rides have closed since then: Apocalypse, G-Force, Pirate Adventure, the Chairlift... even the stand-up feature of Shockwave has been removed.
Super Dragon - I spent many childhood years visiting that. Plus there was a flying elephant ride, That was my favourite, I believe it was in Robisons Land then!!
..haha yes!! My friend was screaming with laughter and joy, I was screaming coz I realised at that point that I had underestimated the value of being in one piece 😂
My memories of Drayton Manor are from the late 80's to the mid 90's. I haven't been back since 1995. Sad to see which rides are now lost, it has very few remaining attractions which were landmarks of the time I used to go there on annual school trips. In particular, the log flume and Pirate Adventure were two of my favourites. The log flume was quite small, but it was great fun. The Pirate Adventure wasn't much of a thrill, but it had a great atmosphere. I can still smell that water. And I have to mention how riding the Super Dragon you had to actively duck and weave to avoid clouting your head on multiple hazards. Ah, great times.
I used to love the Mississippi show boat which was basically a fun house style ride in a boat on the river. The entrance was near the buffalo. I guess they had to close it due to safety concerns but my friends and I used to spend ages rolling around in the big barrel wheel at the end of the ride 😅
I remember the Python/Klondike which was in the site of G-Force, the Teacups where Air-Race is, the Black Revolver (which was an ace walters in the dark), the Paratower (which is roughly where Apocalypse would be), the Haunted Crypt (replaced by the Haunting but next to the Pirate Adenture), the Skyflyer which was far scarier than its now gone replacement Pandemonium, the old Huss Pirate Ship which was next to the dragon in what is now Thomasland, the Sombrero, the Jungle Palladium but my all-time favourite has to be the legendry snake-train.
I always felt that rollercoasters at Drayton Manor were like tasters of bigger rides in other parks Pirate Adventure scared the crap out of me as a kid too 😂
What is your favourite defunct ride from Drayton Manor? 🎢
Definitely pandemonium

Flying Dutchman, Apocalypse, G Force, Drunken Barrels, the Buffalo Coaster, and quite a lot more. It’s just not the same anymore.
Apocalypse and pandemonium were my to favourite I’m still getting over them both now
@joshslater2426 i have such great memories on the drunken barrels and the flying duchman
The Pirates ride deserves a video of its own

Who remembers the snake train, Colin McRae driving a tractor with no seat belts💪🏼 Oi Oi 🤪
Best ride ever. Would still be awesome today if the health and safety laws would allow it 😬

black revolver was a fave of mine!

I loved pirate adventure and the klondike

Bring back the pirate adventure, the sea battle was incredible
I nearly fell out on G-Force 😂
Klondike wasn’t a re themed Python, it was a brand new ride of same make and model
I always felt that rollercoasters at Drayton Manor were like tasters of bigger rides in other parks
Pirate Adventure scared the crap out of me as a kid too 😂
2:44 most merlin parks: 👁️👄👁️
I miss apoc but can not wait for the 2024 coaster coming to the site of pandemoium the ferris wheel and apoc, I also miss g force and pirates
I still recall the Ghost Train. And whatever the thing before Excalibur. Shows my age!
The jungle cruise was the ride before Excalibur 😊
What about Pandemonium?
Give it another 1-4 years & stormforce will be gone aswell ☹
Sadly I agree. Feels like that thing is on its last legs. It always seems to be closed when I visit lately....
Dragon and Super Dragon were also separate rides.
