    The problem you point out is REAL!!! I have this underquilt and have used it the last two years in CO at low temps in the 20's. My backside was so cold that I had to sleep on a quilt inside my hammock. I have been considering sewing a cord into the ends so I can tighten up the large opening where air comes in. I was also considering sewing fabric in the open space between the ends.. Your solution may be enough but I think being able to gather that opening will help too. Will try again this year and I'm really hoping it will work better.

      I agree that gathering those ends would be nice and very helpful. I have found that since I positioned it as I do at the ends that I no longer have cold spots. If you do gather the ends let meknow how that works out for you.

    Finally..a real video on this. I have watched what seems to be an endless drove of ok to crap video on this product. You just answered all the questions I had. Plus you tossed in a how to make better tid bit. Thank you. I feel confident now in ordering one. @@bobamos3628 Ok, first try this weekend, and it was even too warm for the weather we still have here (night temperature around 10°C), but I found it very convenient, easy to set up and to adapt. On one side, I just replaced the bungee cord by a less elastic paracord and added a rope with several loops on each side to better adjust the space between the underquilt and the hammock. I noticed that there is a warmth/diagonal size trade off: the more space you let, the more you will enjoy your hammock's diagonal (especially if it is XXL). If you make it very tight (as on your review), the diagonal will be smaller but you will get warm quickly during cold nights. To me it's a 5/5 grade, even for 100$ it would be a very nice bargain ! Thank you again for your review !

      @@mxcrml Well, thank you for your input. I like your idea of the paracore to limit its movement. I actually saw a video where the guy did just that on the single UQ and wondered if it was necessary. I have not had much time to work with mine because our lows are in the 60 degree F range like yours. (10 degrees C). Would be interesting to see your "rope with several loops" idea. I generally find that my most comfortable position is a 35 to 40 degree angle. WIth the UQ set to the proper tension for that angle I have a more than perfect seal. I generally open and close the end seals to control its warmth generating properties. I thank you so much for your input. It is much appreciated.

    Hello Bob, hope you are doing well. You did get a good deal on that. What I really need is a 11ft hammock first. I would like to get one with a bugnet. I bought a bugnet that's 11ft to go over a hammock that I like. Have a wonderful night my friend.

      Looking for a good 11 footer with bug net? Have I got the hammock for you. It is the one I used in this video. Probably the best budget hammock of 11 foot anywhere. I did a couple videos on this hammock. Under $50 but does need the ridgeline replaced. Got mine from Hammock Gear for $8. Closed loops are nice to replace too but what is on it is just fine. Have a look at the video. Thanks for watching...

    Hi Bob, quick question... did you use 1/8 or 3/16 inch shock cord when you replaced them? Thanks!

    • @bobamos3628
      @bobamos3628 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used the larger cord as I wanted it to be able to handle the stretch and load. Not that there would be much of that. If I had not had the larger in my stock I would have been happy with the smaller cord. Since I had it, I used the larger. Sure is nice being able to use it on an 11 footer.

    • @DMBman13
      @DMBman13 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bobamos3628 Thanks for the reply! I ended up using 1/8” paracord, as that was the thickness of the original cord supplied with the underquilt. I cut each piece at 36 inches, so that when fed through the double cord lock, achieved a length of a foot and a half of cord on each corner of the underquilt. Can’t wait to set it up and see how it turned out! Thanks again for making this video and showing your process of closing that gap in the quilt!

    That's a pretty good price. I still use my Go! Outfitters Adventure Quilts for cold weather. The pack size is just a little smaller than the Onetigris and weighs in at about 3 pounds. The topquilt, underquilt combo is about 6 pounds. Being a budget guy, I still hike with that weight and bulk because they work. They're rated to 20°F, but I've had them to 10°F. With the right prep that Onetigris could probably do the same. Nice review 👍

    Great idea Bob. Even with my regular UQ's, I run them up to the RL to change the suspension angle for that little bit of extra lift. I just got a 40° HG Phoenix ( review vid on my channel) which is ¾ length, and running the suspension up like that really helps to lock it in place at the head end since the foot end only goes down to about my mid calf area. I've also got one of HG's netted hammocks on the way. I got a Chameleon at Xmas and it's comfortable, but the peaks aren't 100% sealed and I've already found a spider in the mesh peak cover lol. The HG net zips all the way around, whereas the Chameleon has zips on each side that terminate at the peaks. The only thing the HG doesn't have that I'm gonna miss about the Chameleon is a winter cover, but I'm sure I'll come up with something.....

      Where I live in Southern California this might be considered over kill. But at under $40 I could not pass it up and, if needed, I will be prepared. But I have actually needed to boost the 3 season UQs a couple of times. What I like about the double is it allows me to lay at an angle and still have coverage. My single tends to shift and leave portions of me unprotected. Thanks for your input it is always welcome.

    Price is good, will keep you warm. But the design is absolutely terrible. I tried these underquilts and they are just cut wrong (uncomfortable!) . They do not allow for a diagonal flat lay. I will always take the economical (cheap) option, but unfortunately in this case there are simply no cheap chinese underquilts that can compare to the pricey US made underquilts from small companies like UGQ, Katabatic, HG, ect. Bob, check out a quality underquilt and it will change your life, I promise! Thanks for the videos!

    • @bobamos3628
      @bobamos3628 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Interesting... I find that this double allows me to lay flat as if there were no underquilt there at all. (You were referring to the "double" ?) It hugs the hammock perfectly and with those high sides my feet as well as my shoulders are all covered. Now the single that I showed with the double does not allow a diagonal lay at all. It kept me warm but I had to sleep like a banana. Not sure what kind of hammock you were using so perhaps it doesn't work on all types. I have about 20 hammocks of all types and have tried it on a few. The tunnel style hammocks with the loop ring overhead for the netting seem to dislike this UQ but so far all my others work. I imagine a bridge hammock would not get along with this UQ either. Thanks for the input and thanks for watching.
