I remember watching the first series of Jackass, here on Plague Island aka the UK, early 2001 as it was block showing of the 1st series over 3hrs, once the first showing on MTV had finished. It was showing on E4, which was one of the terrestrial digital channels. I'd never laughed so much in my whole life and woke up the next day with cramped rib muscles & pain in my abdomen from laughing so badly. Trying to lift things at work a day later was still painful with people asked why I was wincing so badly and I told them I watched Jackass and most of them hadn't bothered so they all watched it as none of them watched in on MTV or on the Sat night showing. Needless to say, other people ended up with laughter pains too! Great times!!

I actually really enjoy the interview segments in the .5 follow up films, it gives a little bit more insight into the casts personality and what was going on on set. The UK Jackass rip off Dirty Sanchez sprinkled little bits of talking head interviews with the four cast members and it really added to the whole experience.

What Jeff Tremaine is saying about the production doesn't seem to really add up unless it was super intentional, or Spike Jonze was nowhere near the show. I say this because Jackass started filming season 1 after Spike Jonze was already nominated for Best Director at the Academy Awards for Being John Malchovich. So they had one of the best filmmakers alive working on the show from day 1. Obviously the show does have really low production values, I'm just saying that was probably a creative choice related to a small budget as opposed to his story about how they were total amateurs.

It was a 100% Bam. And I say this as someone who thinks Bam is a complete tool. CKY created the whole buzz around doing dumb shit on film. Big Brother was doing some of that stuff on the side, but Margera was the person who filmed it, cut it and marketed as a video of people doing dumb shit.
