- For the First Time - Train Service from England, Scotland & Wales
Long distance train operator CrossCountry has announced a new weekday service linking Wales, England and Scotland by one train for the first time. The services are being introduced as part of the rail industry’s twice-yearly timetable change, rolled out from Sunday 15 December.
The 455-mile journey will connect 22 stations between the capitals of Wales and Scotland directly by rail in what is thought to be the first service of its kind. Passengers are already able to book journeys on the new route.
Along with other rail related news and features.

Great round up Gordon 👏👏👏👍 and hope you feel a lot better soon Martin ❤️🩹
XC used to run Cardiff Central-Dundee some years ago, but it didn’t last.
CrossCountry should be concentrating on getting their current services running properly first, cancellations and lack of seats seem to be all too common/
Thank you for including my videos Gordon. Keep up the good work.
No worries 👍
Great round up as always. The completion of Troon station and introduction of Avanti Evero services to Liverpool and Blackpool are welcome news
May I wish Martin a speedy recovery
I travelled on an Intercity 125 back in the 80’s with my Privilege ticket from Cardiff it was withdrawn due to privatisation.😮
I’m happy to see new train services to commence that you can go from Wales to Scotland directly. Sounds amazing.
Only problem is - it's in a voyager...
Great video mate ❤😊
It's not the first time - I recall travelling on a British Rail train between Glasgow and Cardiff, which called at Carstairs for an Edinburgh portion to be attached.
NB There were through Swansea - Edinburgh trains in the 1980s operated by HSTs. No idea how long they lasted - perhaps up until privatisation, how long the journey was or how much the it cost in those days. Doubtless a lot less than the current un-discounted £472.40 standard class return fare, or the £784.50 in first class - (Seriously!)
By comparison, flying from Cardiff with Logan Air is around the £200 mark, perhaps more the closer to departure date the ticket is booked, but half that from Bristol with easyJet.
There use to be a south wales to Scotland d service by virgin cross country about 25 years ago
At least you be happy to see the Class 807 coming to Blackpool North hopefully by the end of this year.
Thanks Nodrog - See you on Saturday buddy
You bet buddy 👍
Great roundup Gordon, get well soon Martin.
Phil is at Manchester Victoria.
@@robertfogg566 thanks I'm almost back to normal
Wow new intro who made it?
Another good rail roundup. I seem to remember in the 80s I caught a morning InterCity from Alnmouth to Cardiff. I can't find any evidence whether it came from Edinburgh, but would be likely. That all said, Alnmouth has a much better service now than then!
Good Video as always 😊🚂🚂🚂
Glad you enjoyed it 🙏
the prices of a return is a joke for the cardiff edinburgh
£480 return First Class!!!!!!!!
@1:54 A first of it's kind??? BR Ran Direct HST's between Cardiff and Edinburgh, aswell as loco hauled stock, so your gen is a little incorrect to be honest...
Only quoting what XC say in the press release buddy.
XC are the worst operator in the UK possibly Europe and should work on fixing their seating and trains before trying to commit to new routes
Or get new trains. The Voyagers are diabolically bad on terms of capacity, even as double sets
Manchester Victoria!
@@markstramtrainbuscapades1729 I concur
Gordon .... Audio is really poor...
@@darrenfitch he had a cold cut him some slack.
you know its bad when ‘works being done on time’ is breaking news
Great video mate ❤😊
