I can't just "not reply" to this comment... even if being 1 year old... Thsi in my opinion is one of the 3-4 nearly "perfect" albums I've ever heard in my entire life... 4 years later, still leaves me completely speechless... what a fkin masterpiece...

This album was incredible, all the depth and darkness of Garden's of Grief/ Red Sky is Ours, riffs building on the banger that was Slaughter of the Soul and the musicianship/experience of a 30 year career. This and To Drink from the Night Itself were near perfect and a new single is less than a week away. I am fucking excited!

witchsabbath13 I would probably say (at least from what i've seen) it's only become more separated between fan bases and genres. Overall, maybe it's slightly worse now, but i'm only a very young metal fan. Extreme metal genres are still kicking major ass, both in underground and worldwide names. I guess it's probably the industry and business side that fucks it all up, but the music for me is just as good if not getting better, despite all the copy cat bands. Most of the time i'm not bothered with a lot of big name releases, i just stick to a couple new releases if it really grabs my interest.

At The Gates was my least favorite of the Gothenburg Death Metal scene in the early 2000's, however since then: 1) In Flames sold out 2) Soilwork and Dark Tranquillity have released several unmemorable pieces 3) ATG released the best comeback album in the history of EVAR I hope this isn't just a temporary return!
I'd take DT over soilwork or in flames anyday. However new DT is good but not amazing, new soilwork is decent, and new in flames is absolute garbage frankly. At The Gates slays those bands though, no contest. I am glad it was not a temporary return as well, 2 sick records in a row since their comeback.
Yeah, in the making of the Slaughter of the Soul video one of the guitarist talks about their classic ATG guitar sound with the 2 guitars playing a rythm riff while harmonizing and they say they're heavily slayer influenced.
+Dylan Mahoney ATG was never a black metal dude. They were one of the founding Melodic Death Metal bands. This song (and album) does have a bit of a blackened vibe to it but they're not black metal lol.

man im a bit peeved with this song, it has like the sickest intro ever and then around the 1 minute mark it goes into this dull boring riff and it annoys me so much. like on one hand i love this song because of the intro but that riff just kills the energy so much and its peeves me a bit apart from that awesome song though, great album
