I know its weird to get a reply literally over a year later. But I was actually born there. My family was stationed there from 98-05. I had such wonderful memories as a kid when I lived there. I was fascinated by literally everything. The YCC, the indoor pool (it had a certain name. I forgot what it was), the schools with the crazy playgrounds, the youth center, the O-Club on the west side, just literally every nook and cranny no matter how exciting or mundane it was. I mean I was only 6yo when I left. But man I miss Yokota so much. Haven't seen it in 15 years. I'm trying so hard to go back and visit but its extremely difficult due to all the pandemic stuff happening at the moment.

My Dad was stationed at Yokota in the early 70's when I was a teenager, and I would ride my bicycle on the perimeter road almost everyday. That was before any jogging or cycling paths. Thanks for this video!

Back in the 80s I flew N94414 and N94402 both C-152 out of the Aero Club (RJTY). Thank you for the memories. God bless.

Glad it only took almost four minutes to turn your phone...I was about to X out n find other yokota videos....but you figured it out! YAY!
I lived on yokota 78-81.....as a dependent. I absolutely loved this tour! That bus looked like our school busses when I was there....nice tour busses with nice seats instead of the big yellow thing with hard bench seats :)

I was at Yokota in 1962-65. I had a 305cc Honda motorcycle. On this video, at the 6:50 mark on that long straight stretch of perimeter road I have done over 100 mph many, many times! In 1965, there was hardly anything on the east side. Some nose docks etc. I doubt you would have found a soda machine there at that time. It is hard to believe there was enough room over there to build all those high rises!!

My father was stationed there from 2008 to 2010. Man, do I really miss it now. I feel like I took a lot of stuff for granted, then again, I was still in High School. I even graduated over there. But man do I wish I had toured around more.

I also recall a short job I had delivering the free Kanto [if that was what it was called, or still called] newspaper.
First week, I had to deliver it to the West Side. I lived on the East Side. This was before I got my driver’s license. So I had to ride my bike all the way up the North Overpass, including climbing up the pedestrian bridge, with probably 50-60 pounds of newspapers around my shoulder, and spent the entire evening delivering the Kanto Paper to every single house, towers included, on the West Side.
Next to a temporary Night Shift job I had at an Insulation Plant, sweeping lent from 6:00 in the evening to 3:30 in the morning, it was, without question, the worst job I ever had. But it only lasted about a month. I ended up getting a Bagging Job at the Commissary. And it was far more beneficial.

Sometimes i didnt make it and would see the bottom of the plane as it flew over my head. Great times! lmao.

I was stationed there from 97-99, unfortunately it was a nightmare tour but hey, not every tour can be golden. I lived off base near crossroads, bought a Prelude from Kelly & Kelly went to the gym and base theater a lot plus gave a lot of young folks tours of Shinjuki, Shibuya, Tachikawa, Omotesando, etc. Crazy times a lot of young folks got into some big trouble in Roppongi, one gal got court martialed because of drugs, another came back from Korea and acted like he was stationed at Yokota again but his assignment was Tinker lol. One airman got drunk and drove off base into a moving train, and survived! I remember 2 airmen off base ran over a Japanese guy because they were drunk and stupid, the guy was alive enough to pull out his flip phone(yes, mostly flip phones back then I'm not being racist) and contact the police, I'm sure those 2 airmen did time in either U.S. or Japanese prison. Another gal got caught cheating on WAPS exam, that was in the Stars and Stripes a lot. Oh, there was a big drug bust at Armed Forces Network radio on base. I remember listening to them one time and the two young enlisted announcers were making some inside jokes, rather sexual in nature, and they got pulled off the air..out of control. When I got there I thought I was on an extended tour(3 years) but it turned out to be only a standard tour of 2 years many of my friends and myself went back to Korea much better assignment at least back then. Oh, I definitely remember all the places in this video, I drove around that base so many times it's probably 100 - 300 times. My advice to anyone joining the military out of high school go medical or something operational like Air Force, work flightline. Army, drive tank. Navy, work on sub. Marines, infantry or field artillery get your associates while you're in and get out after 4 years the G.I. Bill will pay for 4 years of college. Do NOT do more than 4 years it's a law of diminishing returns after that. Yes, expect to have many rough days but you're young you can take it, the G.I. Bill is really worth it if you have no other way to go to school.
