    1 thing I forgot to mention don't forget to put 2 small holes in the top of the pipe to let the air out
    Link to parlour trap netting pot : • 🦀 Making a Parlour Pot...

    side bars : 4 x 30'' (76cm)

    Eyup Troj. My brother in law used to make dozens when he couldn't stand to buy 'em. Good luck with the fishing this year. I'm told by a bloke I still keep in touch with and who fishes off Anglesey that the price of lobster is up thanks to Brexit and the weak pound so make the most of it! Sithi after, Dave.

    Great Video. I will be trying this in Southern California. What is the item you are using for the inlet? Is it plastic or metal? And what is it?

    • @Trojwaterman
      @Trojwaterman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a plastic crab pot neck but you can use a tough flower pot with the base cut off or a large drain pipe as an alternative

    Great video will attempt one ,how do you weigh it down ?

    • @Trojwaterman
      @Trojwaterman  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have window sash weights in most but some have metal pipe filled with cement. You can tie in bricks but it all depends where you are using them and how much weight you need.

    hi your videos are brilliant! I have a fishing boat up at Cromer north norfolk and want to try some pots just for fun next year. Can I ask the following questions please;
    What mesh size is the netting?
    Do you always use top entry type?
    Do you use extra weights in the pots?
    Do you always add a parlour?
    Many thanks Pete
    Ps currently in Fuerteventura on holiday sat watching your videos!

    • @Trojwaterman
      @Trojwaterman  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks.
      Fuerteventura probably good place to be at the moment :)
      Mesh is about 40mm x 40mm its just standard crab pot net.
      Top entry yes able to catch all species.
      Weights yes about 12lb to 18 lb depends on your area we have very strong weather & tides here being exposed.
      No to parlour open pots catch just as well but parlour better if you cant get to your pot for a week.

      Hi Troj, well I've made my first two pots to your design, many thanks for all your help. I found the following video th-cam.com/video/trLENhAWkEc/w-d-xo.html could i ask you have you ever seen or tried the "gateway" in the top entry funnel referred to in this video? Any use or not required even in a pot that does not contain a parlour? regards pete

      Many years ago I was on a large potter who tried 20 or 30 of them they did not catch well. I don't think they would be much good for lobster as they feel their way around probably ok for crab but crab don't tend to get out anyway

    What prevents the crab/lobster from coming out from the top hole? I guess they can't swim upward?

    • @Trojwaterman
      @Trojwaterman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Lobsters dart backwards or just glide. If the pots tilt enough they can find their way out over time. If I was going for lobster only I would use smaller necks but these pots are great for multiple species, also quicker & cheaper to build than the parlour style. They catch just as well as long as they are checked regular.

    Do you use makrel as bait? Or will any fish work. ? I have build the traps after your design to use in denmark. Salute and good work. I will put them to use after the 1 0f september then season starts here. Greetings from denmark. Henrik

    • @Trojwaterman
      @Trojwaterman  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Any fish will work the problem with mackerel is it does not last very well and gets torn apart quick. If its Lobster you want to catch leave the bait for a day before using, If for crab use fresh.

    Hi Trojs, I have built this pot and have been using it off a local beach. I have been catching but also suspect people/holiday makers have been taking my catch. Is there any way I can amend the pot to make it secure so people cant put their hand in and grab whats in there? I guess i could build a parlour pot with a secureable door but wandered if there is a way to amend the pot already made.......thank you

    • @Trojwaterman
      @Trojwaterman  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Unfortunately not. There are always those who will steal from others. When I used to put pots off the rocks I would have a loop of rope on the pot, each time I went to check it I would take a length of rope with a large gaff type hook on and hook the loop of rope under the water. This way no one new it was there and anyone who may have seen it could not reach it.

    What is the cell size on the net?

  • @kengarratt8681
    @kengarratt8681 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    just a question is there a reason you use a net bottom and not a wooden lat bottom cheers ken

    • @Trojwaterman
      @Trojwaterman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      several reasons Less buoyancy the better with the strong tides the pots need to be heavy , Wood is expensive here, Its just as easy to wrap the net all the way around the pot and rope it. To be honest I dont think I have ever seen a wooden base pot used here.

    Wonder what the catch ratio is between those pots and Scottish creels!

    • @Trojwaterman
      @Trojwaterman  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have used a couple of creels over 2 seasons over the years I personally wont use them now but that does not mean they are not good they just don't catch well for me where I fish or the way I fish.

    • @Trojwaterman
      @Trojwaterman  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They can do if the pots go unchecked for a week or two or if the pot lands on its side. Apart from that conger eel will strip the baits or your pots are being robbed. I have and still do catch very well in these pots.

    • @AutoFreak10
