yESSS I always liked EXO songs but somehow their title tracks didnt make me want to stan them. AND THEN i listen to their last album to start to finish and then BAM i fall in love with their b-tracks, the same happen with Shinee and NCT with me. SM have awesome production, but their b-traks is what makes fall in love, so much good stuff hidden

Honestly, it's impossible to not be biaswreaked constantly by SHINee members. They keep pulling out all the stops and you just kinda sit there kinda confused about everything tbh.
Love it! I feel like you would really like Jonghyun's more upbeat songs! He is known and loved for his ballads but the She Is album is just a very fun, upbeat, cheeky ride!
I love Jonghyun's discography and She Is is my favorite album by him it has so many genres within. :)

Key is a really versatile singer, depending on the type and genre of songs he’s singing, but ofc I have fave genres for his voice.
Adding that he’s also like SHINee’s triple threat, dance and rap.. scary!! Scary good!
You are right to say Key is your favorite solo SM artist, because he's my SHINee bias and god, he is so slept on. This album was SO GOOD. I played it to death. I'm really glad you took the time to listen to it. Key had made one of THE best pop albums in general, aside from kpop.
Idk if someone has mentioned this to you, but Key mentioned that he specially arrange all the songs in his album somewhat like a story. So you can feel there are like a continuation/flows from each song. Fun fact: key use this life as ending song in his concert and he put all the memories he has. So your interpretation of the song is close to they way key see it.

I can relate a lot to what you said by SM sounding a bit too westernized. But SHINee really took my heart because they are diverse, creative, and just unique. Sure, their title tracks are that typical SM sound, I mean i really sing to them alot because they are catchy. But their B-sides are really gold. I think individually their creative sides are more shown in their solo albums because they have more creative power and control over the tracks. Hope you can do a listen to a SHINee album as well (misconceptions of me/you/us is good, and Odd as well, and the story of light epilogue too!) but if you won't I'm content with repeating this video over and over again. 😁
Westernized? what? oh please, what the heck is that. They all use American music style or you think Korean invented Rap, rap was created here in the Bronx, NY, where I grew up... I can tell you that for a fact.
eve ruby they didn’t say anything about rap. I think it’s about the production style. Kpop does have a very different style of production compared to western music. But since SM do get songs from artists outside of Asia it does make sense.
I think although their title tracks are more westernized, their b-sides are very much Kpop. And even then, some artists who create Kpop aren’t even that great. Western sound works for Shinee.

I feel like SHINee's titles (even their solo stuff like Gulity Pleasure and Forever Yours first come to mind) can be hit or miss but their bsides for the most part knock it out of the park. I really hope you do a diving deeper with Shinee one day because there are some GEMS there. If not I'm satisfied with this. Key's album is amazing and I really hope people appreciate it more.

I'm so so sooo happy u like his album, i'm not trying to be biased but Key's album really suit my taste the most among other SHINee solo albums, 2nd is Jonghyun's album ❤
I honestly just dislike 1/2 songs in this album, dislike is not a perfect words but yea only 1/2 songs that not my taste
And i recommend you to listen to 1of1 album and all the story of light series

I strongly recommend you to take a look at all of Shinee's (both group and solo!) B-sides. As a long-time SM stan, I guarantee you that SM has a habit of making their B-sides a lot more interesting than their titles and that is very much the case with Shinee as it is with other SM groups. Since I'm hella excited, here's a break down of their discography:
Early shinee (2008-10) consists of lots of R&B and ballads as well as the weird electronic rap typa shit that was popular in kpop at the time lmao. Def recommend their earlier albums if you're into R&B.
2012-13: shinee becomes a lot more experimental and lives up to their "contemporary" brand. They try out more pop music in areas of funk and rock.
2015: mix of new and old sounds. I often recommend Odd/Married to the Music to new fans bc of this mix. Songs from this album are also easy to differentiate due to the various blends of music genres. During this time, shinee helps to popularize house and funk in the kpop scene. they play around with hip-hop and other experimental electronica.
2016-18: plz check out 1of1 the album is a damn masterpiece no words needed as well as The Story of Light. Both are incredible contemporary albums that I highly recommend
As for their solos, to briefly sum it up:
Taemin = gradually gets hornier with every release 10/10 i recommend all of his solo albums
Jonghyun = nighttime horniness as well as the care and comfort we all need during our lonesome late hours. his music's honestly not for everyone but i highly recommend Poet|Artist
Key = ya already what's good but basically electronic dance pop but better
Onew = ballads. not for everyone tbvh
Minho = stream I'm Home after a tired day of work and toil. Yet to unleash his full potential. Probably would be horny on the main tho.
so sorry for the long post, but Shinee are five of the most versatile artists i've ever seen as a group and as individuals and their title tracks are barely even scratching the surface (don't get me started on their Japanese discography). My music tastes have expanded immensely ever since I started stanning shinee and shinee only continue impress. Definitely give them another chance; I'm absolutely sure there's going to be something you like ;)

Thank you for this listening party! I wanna add some informations. Key actually co-wrote I Will Fight, Easy to Love and wrote The Duty of Love, This Life. You're right in FACE This Life is the final track and it's the last song of his The Agit (concert). When you said This Life could be a good tribute song for Jonghyun I think you're on something there. The album was released almost one year after he left us and I think it's in Key's personality to want to empathise and cheer us up but not forgetting the cruel reality of life. He already did that through his solo stages or when he shared us his story of being a chicken among swans. If you keep an eye on him I want to add he's a great dancer too and an amazing performer because he has that charisma like he was born to be on stage.
At my first listen I was not fully liking this album because I felt he could do "more", like it has his flavour but not fully? I don't know how to explain it but knowing what SHINee, and he on his own, were capable of my expectations are always so high. But Good Good was and still is my favorite, exactly what I wanted from him. I really loved Imagine and This Life, the others grew on me over time. What surprised me was he didn't rap but had many feats instead. I think this album is kinda a test and maybe the next will be more experimenting.
Experimenting (with genres for example) is what I love in SHINee, and you can't really appreciate that with only their title. The hidden gems are in the B-sides so maybe a dive in deeper in SHINee could be a good idea.
Yeah, idk why Cold became the last track in the repackage because This Life was originally the last song (and it was Key who wanted it that way. He also closed his concerts with the song, with pictures of himself through his childhood, growing up and with SHINee, being showed on the big screens while he sang, which fits perfectly with the way you described the song). He's also got a japanese mini album out, if you want to listen to that (and a song with Years & Years, idk if you've heard it: th-cam.com/video/uaaxU9k2e4c/w-d-xo.html)

SM has very strong b-sides and I highkey think that every song from this album could also be the title track!
KEY has become my 2nd favorite SM solo artist right after king Taemin! ❤️
I looooved this album, so glad you reacted to it.
As amazing as this album is, it only scratches the surface of what Key is capable of. I saw an interview with Key talking about his album and how this album was for easy listening for people to enjoy and that he enjoyed making it.
He said that Taemin's advice to him was to make the music he really wants to make as an artist and he would never regret it. And Key said that yes...he would do that ...but not yet. So as good as this album is, it's still not Key's ultimate vision for his music. I expect we will have more solo music from Key in the future that will really be a reflection of Key as an artist. I think Key's talent is immense ...like a sleeping giant ...and I look forward to when it completely wakes up.

I don't know if you'll read this!! But SHINee mainly work with Korean, English & Swedish artists...that doesn't mean the American artists are less or sth they are talented too but you just judged SHINee's whole discography based on one or 2 songs & the main stream of SM which isn't justice :(

key loves old british pop/rock bands, he's obsessed with eighties pop and european electronic music. and it shows in the songs he choose and complied in his album

When Key performed This life they actually played a montage with his childhood photos and early SHINee photos.
You can’t let yourself be jaded by their title tracks. Shinee’s b-sides are phenomenal and are worth a listen. Just because you can’t vibe with their title tracks doesn’t mean who should dismiss their other songs. They aren’t called one of Korea’s most versatile boy groups for no reason.

Honest and Imagine are definitely my favourites personally, I think This Life is amazing but every time I listen I feel a little blue balled, it feels like there should be another drop at the end, but there isn’t

Tbh, I was waiting for those songs that always break the streak of great songs in the album but it Key never delivered it so I found this album perfect to keep on repeat for long road trips 👌
key's album is criminally underrated. i know he made it specifically for shawols but i really wish it would've gotten more attention.
What I noticed is that when SM gives their group members a solo album opportunity their albums are very organic in a way. All of them have very individual feeling that makes me believe that I listen to those singers music that was produced taking into consideration their own style. Also, all of them are very well made and nothing is forced even though they produced quite a lot of solo albums recently. Can't wait for Baekhyun's album.
this album is hands down my favorite solo artist album, and one of my favorite kpop albums in general. it's so beyond amazing. i've always loved his voice and i love that he really got to let it shine here
I agree with the old school Daft Punk sounds so much. It was my first thought when I listen to Honest and Imagine.
I love Daft Punk since a long time ago, since Around the World actually (I sound particularly right now) and the Discovery album is probably my favourite so of course I like both songs a lot. Well the whole album.

This Life was the final song of the album.
I also agree with Cold, it was a station song and added in the repackage, the way they place it doesn't feel right. This Life was really the perfect way to finish the album.
This album is the perfect album. I can never listen to a whole album without skipping and I didn’t skip once with this one. I love how versatile Key’s voice is, he made me feel a thousand and more emotions with every song. My fav has to be this life but also show me, mmm okay and I will fight. Ugh it’s too hard to pick!! That’s how you know how good an album is lol

I listened to this album when it first came out, and then forgot about it for a while. When I watched it again with you, it literally made me cry all over again. actually some of shinee's singles are not the best songs in the albums , i can assure you that they have HIDDEN TREASURES! for example in the holy trilogy MOY/MOM/MOU, they have a really contemporary style so they have r&b, pop, ballads.
