    He broke the law, unfortunately. He had a study permit when he was arrested. Why didn’t he just complete his studies and not participate in any protests until he was a permanent resident? I came here in 2020, when there were protests related to Covid. Yes, I wanted to join, but I wasn’t a citizen. I stayed home and avoided anything illegal or dangerous. He should’ve been wiser.

    It took me 10 years of changing careers, gaining related work experience, and upgrading and studying further in order to qualify to get Canadian residency. It was a long and costly journey, so I have no sympathy for people that come to Canada on temporary visas and then expect to stay.

    It is unfortunate, but the Canadian legal system can't be bent and shaped by pulled heartstrings. If an immigrant is here on a student visa, they are here to go to school. They agree not to break to the law. To get charged with jail time should be immediate deportation, this is not a difficult or surprising concept.     These are the kinds of people who got us to this point. Arrogant children given an outsized voice because of social media. But the adults are catching back up. God willing, he'll be properly humbled back in Pakistan and then more likely to be of actual service and not just cause chaos.
