Your comment feels like it's contradicting itself all over the place. How can you complain about a lack of raid progression and complain about LFR in the same post? First, progression raiders don't do LFR (unless they just want to pick up some augment runes). Second, LFR doesn't come out until most guilds have already completed a raid on Normal difficulty so it in no way kills the "mystique." You then complain that new patches make previous raid tiers completely obsolete. But I get the sense that if the gear that drops in the new raid wasn't head and shoulders above the gear from Uldir you'd be pissed about the lack of character progression. No long term goals to work towards? How about gaining exalted reputation with every faction, rare mounts/pets/toys/transmog, achievement hunting? Oh, that's right, you probably burned yourself out completing all of that in 2 months didn't you?

personally with LFR i think it could probably use some changes but it shouldnt be removed
LFR allows everyone to finish the story of an expansion/expansion update, if it wasnt for LFR lots of people would be left without an ending to a story, like the zandalar story, or the suramar story, theyde have to go and look it up on youtube or something to see how it ends, and no game should be like that, everyone should be able to play through a games/expansions/updates ending
im not sure what can be done to change LFR to something people are happy with though, cause ive never really had a problem with it because thats how ive always viewed it, and im not someone who only raids LFR, ive done normals and heroics, plus ive always thought of it like "because its an easier version of the raid, being easier than the normal difficulty, isnt it what it should be? the weakest versions of the raid rewards and none of the special rewards like mounts and no achievements with mount rewards", plus, it can be seen as "training", not all the mechanics are there, but the basic ones are there for people to learn so that when they go into the normal mode and higher they have a basic understanding of what to do, while still going through the process of learning other mechanics, there would just be less to learn, or less for the others in the raid to teach them

    • @brandonstott8822

I think if difficulty has to be taken down to the point where it's a no lose condition, you shouldn't be seeing very end end content. When theres no lose condition it ceases to be a game. Normal is easy enough for anyone to get through already. If you do have trouble with it, then you now have a long term goal instead of having it spoonfed to you in lfr. Getting to jump straight to the final boss of an expansion not long after hitting cap, and killing him without ever having to speak to another player is NOT healthy for an mmo

-Wanna do some epic content? Congrats, Warfronts and world quests and island expeditions.
-Wanna try a new allied race? Congrats, grind a toon to 120, then grind out the relative faction rep to exalted, then grind an entirely new character up from level 1... all while your friends are doing the end-game content.

I unsubbed today.. I've been playing since the second month of vanilla.
I'm very proud of the weapons that I have that are no longer in the game but I have then... like benediction and such.
I've also been invited to every beta since MOP. I give my concerns, I offer ways that they can improve.. and for the most part the concerns are addressed in beta or within the first few weeks of launch.
This beta however.. it felt like blizz did not care about anything. The beta forums were very active and there is a difference in the way someone feels when you ignore them... and when a blue post says things that are a nicer way of saying, "you're doing it wrong" "you just don't understand" or "that's the way it's going to be" "just deal with it."
The beta forums made me feel like blizz gave us the big middle finger, with glow in the dark paint so we couldn't miss it.
And then the Q&As we ever more patronizing. How hard is it to say, we hear your concerns and we are working on a fix that won't break the game?
Instead we got the same craps the blue posts gave us in the beta forums.
I remember many years ago a blue told me that if you post a problem on the forums with no solution and that is all negative the devs will pay it no mind. So I made sure to always try to put a solution to the problem in my threads.
But at a certain point, this is blizz game, we shouldn't have to tell them a solution to a problem they created. They have all these high paid teams working on this game and they couldn't figure this out?
    Enough ranting... I'm done

It's probably bad lead developers. Each head is just someone that has to work there, just because you have the most developers, programmers, doesn't mean they'll each take their own decisions and do whatever in those offices.
they should still listen to developers' ideas, if they had ideas of improvements. If they did the exact opposite of that and went full pride, all ears shut, then I'm not surprised by the result and I don't fucking care if WoW hurts because of it, because nothing is above good practice.

Look at the allied races, for example. Let's say someone saw the advertisements that there are new allied races, and wanted to come back to the game to play them (there are plenty of cases of this), let's just say Void Elves. Blizzard completely misled them by downplaying the unlock requirements "ALLIED RACES - Venture forth as one of the new playable Allied Races in Battle for Azeroth. Earn the respect of and you'll unlock the ability to create new prestige characters of that race." "Earn the respect of ____" doesn't really explain to a newcomer what it really entails, which is "Create a character of the race you don't want to play, level all the way up, grind to exalted on previous expansion content (which can take several weeks), unlock the race, then level all the way back to 110 again to do BfA content".
I can understand a rep requirement in the BfA pre-release, as a way to incentivize current players to get the races early. But that rep requirement should've been removed at launch for Legion reps. Only allied races that should still be rep-locked are the Dark Iron Dwarves and the Mag'Har Orcs.
This is just one example of shit being grindy just to keep people subbing and not to feel a sense of achievement.

I think what finally got me to permanently give up on WoW was when I hit 120 and still had a lot of quests to do. When you are no longer being rewarded XP, you start to judge a quest (and the game in general) purely on its own merit...or lack thereof. And I came to the realization that WoW is boring as hell. It has very little in the way of dynamic multiplayer experiences that can give an MMO longevity. All you do are solo quests, most of which are total crap (and the good ones become dull by your 1st alt), and static multiplayer scenarios for incrementally better RNG gear until the expansion ends. That's it. That's all there really is. The players don't get to build anything together. Sure they can band together and help each other in their endless search for incrementally better gear, but that's it. The players aren't really doing anything for each other, for the game. There is no community, no history. Just a clean slate each expansion and a mediocre story to explain why you are starting your incremental gear grind all over again for the 9th time. The player has no impact on the world, or other players. Nothing matters. I see now that World of Warcraft fundamentally approaches an MMO as if it is a cross between a horrible a solo-RPG with drop-in coop and a broken slot machine, and it SUCKS. MMOs need to seriously reconsider how they operate, and put the game more in the hands of the players. If I am on a server with 10,000 people, I want that server, and those specific players to actually be unique and to have a rich history. And WoW isn't that at all.

The RNG for other gear is meh. But I probably won't finish the storylines because I get near the end and then get too bored of rinse-and-repeat rep grind content. In earlier expansions (Cataclysm and prior), I'd do professions, but those are pointless now too.

I don't think bliz has people in their own office with the stomach to put together a form like that.

Why I don't like BFA? The game have been just more of the same with every xpac since they took away talent trees. I was very excited to play BFA I thought things would be different but once you get past the wrapping and the bow, it is the same piece of poop underneath. In a game where we pay so much for EVERYTHING we should at least be able to play the classes our way and not have one cookie cutter build that blizzard forces you to play, the profession system is a joke, every time we get something fun like a glad stance warrior or when the best thing you can have equipped is something you made or when you can pick and choose from 3 talent trees and build your toon your way and it's still viable for all content, Blizzard takes all that away and make Us the people PAYING them play how they want. I like questing, mythic + and PVP, questing right now is stale and boring you can only complete a quest one way there is no other options no choices to make just the same thing over and over. The mythic + reward system changed you get less while the dungeons get harder and PVP is an unbalanced joke where 3 classes my reign supreme. Blizzard do so many things right, I think they have some of the best writers they can really developed a character and make you fall in love with them but they have been on top for so long and we have made them so rich they think they have all the answers when all they do now is constantly step on their own toes and get on their own way and ruin OUR game ...and it is our game we pay for everything thing and if we all ask for change and stop playing/paying until such changes happen they would have no (choice) but to listen.

So, if people had visited the subreddit, it turns out this is only aimed at US players, maybe EU? Some people have picked thier place of residence, answering places like Italy and that will immediately end the survey for you. Rather questionable. That aside, it still raises the question of 'will Blizzard actually listen?'. I know people will answer 'Yes' considering all the changes that have been happening with 8.1 and all, but that isn't what I'm asking. What I mean is that will they actually understand *why* these things are a problem. *Why* people don't like the systems. Because, quite frankly, it is a bit reasonable to chalk up the current changes as 'Okay look, we're listening, we're doing this instead, are you happy?' and cash in on that bit of goodwill. Add on Ion's lawyer talk, and you've got what can be a convincing enough appearance of 'We're listening and we're taking into consideration what you want'. That's my two cents on this matter, anyway.

I believe even the competitive side is gettin quite hard to play, specially m+ where any key between 2 and 8 is a nightmare if you're pugging (which is the fastest method). Dungeons difficulty increased by A LOT this expansion, and besides that we lost A LOT of speed during gameplay with the GCD, people needs to think and know almost everything inside the dungeon to be able to "safely" run the key (without counting the ilvl requirement).. But wait there's a problem, besides raids, people had never encountered in the last expansions, content where teamwork is ESSENTIAL. And m+ NEEDS a lot of teamwork. So for those people that are casual but can actually become potential players in the competitive side of the game without being too "hardcore" like the mythic raids, they'll get discouraged to even try it after trying to pug some keys. That content becomes a quite negative experience for the casuals that are trying to find something harder than island expeditions, world quests or the unlosable warfronts. This actually makes those players see how empty and boring the rest of the content is, at least for those looking for the new content. (Preach posted a video not long ago about this problems, for those interested go watch it).

    • @silverquis
      @silverquis 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Did a +3 siege with 350 groups and found out 2 dps and healer never did the dungeon before at all or felt the need to tell me (the tank). wiped 11 times on the 1st boss despite explaining the boss over and over again. This group broke the straw on the camels back for me this expansion. Thought to quit after getting the brown skinned orcs but that group broke me.

Well said and so true. Between a portion of the community and blizzard, the game has become a shit storm. There's a reason why having people need to work for the gear was important. They had to actually do the content. They would learn and progress further, learning along the way. The player base has been pandered to and it's caused a dumbing down of the majority of the player base and ruined it for others capable of doing content. Our waters have been polluted.

Hmmm, I left because I was not having fun. You know, fun. That is why I play games, for the amusement factor. Leveled a Horde alt and an Ali alt, then finished leveling one of my new race characters; but when I got her to 110, I just didn't feel compelled to do the BFA content. The new area was not interesting, story content was slow to get to the meat, actually don't really think I really got any meat of the story beyond the initial start of BFA content. When I wanted to play, would log in and just sit there not feeling compelled to go do quest and would log back off. After a month of not wanting to play when logging in and I just logging back off, I started realizing there was nothing compelling about the game play to hook me into the non-stop playing that I did in Legion. Final straw was trying to play my mage that I freshly leveled from where I left her in Legion at 48. GCD ... and crappy performance killed me, always hated running back from a GY since Van; but trying to do some of the level 110 quest with my weakass mage and dying, I just left her at the GY dead, logged and unsubed. I just wasn't having fun, the game play reminded me of why I quit for the 1st time ever, back in Cata.

I so sympathize with The Dark Lady, she has fought for her people for so long, even died over it ( but she got better) and has suffered much. I really fell in love with her when I found and returned her broken locket. Hearing of her need for me to be there for her now ... nearly had me rejoin BFA ... but how long was I going to have to grind to get to that part of the story and tolerate the game play un-fun-ness. Just not enough. The game needs to be fun, the story compelling, my character needs to be and feel really powerful and not need to group or wait in line to do content. I need to feel like a hero and be key to the success of the leaders for which I have allied myself. BFA is the worst, I played WOD through many alts and achievements, even played Cata more, played BFA maybe 1.5 months and several of those weeks I didn't play but maybe 1 day a week. BFA just isn't fun.

Demon Hunters are the only "locked" class as you need a level 70 on the realm you plan on making one, but you get a free 110 boost so it isn't really a problem unless you want to unlock more than 1, even then you can just make a Death Knight and do dungeons for a few hours, it's quite easy.

    My experience with WoW:
Played it alot back in vanilla before any expansions... i mean alot.
Was unable to play for a few years because of life situations. By the point i was able to play again i had no interest.
One day i received an email saying blizzard was giving me a free month and a level 80 character if i come back to the game.
I said fuck it, a free month and an instant level 80? Guess ill at least log in.
logged in on the free level 80, realized how retarded it was to start at level 80. Quit playing.
Another expansion came out, figured id try it again.
But nope, someone hacked my account during the free month and sold gold on it and i was banned. Was not able to appeal.
    Thank you blizzard

Here's a proposal - imagine all content post vanilla being exactly the same as vanilla (in terms of difficulty, uniqueness and community immersion). The sub numbers wouldn't have plummeted, though you would still have had the situation where 90% of players never got to see end game content. Understanding more about this is to understand that the levels of dopamine and serotonin in the brain are what leads to a pleasurable wow experience. Modern wow does not (and cannot) cause the same levels of addition, joy and motivation simply because it is not built in a way which affects these neurotransmitters in the same or similar way. Serotonin, which helps us feel sated and contributes to feelings of happiness and well-being, then inhibits the compelling motivation of dopamine. When serotonin levels are low, the motivating effects of dopamine in the brain become amplified. Sound familiar? The usual complaint that 90% of players don't get to see end game content in vanilla translates roughly as: "dopamine levels are very high for prolonged periods of time (grinding/wiping on 5mans etc) and the serotonin release is very gradual and cannot keep players satisfied long enough for them to become bored." It means you'll always have a cohort that will never get to see end game, but they'll always try. I venture to say that this is perfectly fine.

What it would take for me to come back to WoW:
    - **reinstate talent trees
    - reinstate reforging
    - remove azurite
    - remove or greatly reduce the RNG behind gear acquisition back to Wrath/Cata levels
    - **remove requirement to buy the game/expansions and go solely off of subscription--or visa versa
    - bring back the old glyph system from pre-MoP days
    - perform a game wide rebalancing for the open world akin to ESO's One Tamriel (so you can level anywhere you want)
    - add rebalanced and updated versions of ALL dungeons and raids to end game levels
    - remove Raid Finder rewards; make it ONLY useful for assembling a raid, not for undermining its difficulty
    - **remove the cash shop, except for the subscription tokens that people can trade
    - make all name changes, realm transfers, sex changes, etc free (but it's cool to put a cooldown on them like 2 weeks or something)
**These are the most important ones, and the talent trees were the primary reason I permanently unsubbed two weeks after MoP released.

once the horde and alliances made friends like after wrath the whole horde vs alliance part of wow was over and they never should have gone back.. they instead should have created a new faction and allow players to abandon the horde or alliance that basically became one faction for another faction.. that's the ONLY way they could have made it so the faction conflict came back to wow with out it feeling weird or out of place or whatever.
but noooooo.. they had to make that stupid ork guy the new bad guy and get all uppety in some old gods butt and shit to force the conflict again.

I stopped caring about Blizzard the moment Activision stepped in. As a Diablo/WoW fan It's not hard to see all the quick cash grab short-terms practices going on in all their games with the future plans of reselling the same stuff over and over.
Blizzard are no longer in control, Most of the staff that we grew up with are no longer works there, they got replaced by Activision new staffs to implement the cash grab tactic in every region.
The community voice and feedback no longer shape or fix what's left.
You buy the WoW game + Expansions + paying monthly subs + In-Game Services/Shops. Yet your voice are ignored completely cause you're there to get milked.
The same with Diablo 3, this thing been dry like the desert waiting for a rain drop. Yet they kept reselling the same game for all consoles and now Mobile.
They just don't care as long as they keep getting money.

I find it interesting that Blizzard changed the order of the responses when asking if the player would return. It appears that they are putting the answers up top that they expect people to select more often.

I want flying back with no restrictions/quests. I want my character to feel like the old ones, not castratio. I don’t want to be “the hero” anymore. Quit making the areas smaller and smaller. Don’t release a new beta and forget the actual game and leave us with nothing. Put back the REAL CINEMATICS. I almost cried when I saw the lazy story board cinematics, especially the burning of Teddressal (sp), so try, like you did with the warrior cinematic, again. Don’t run us to endgame, make the journey fun, long, and somewhat difficult. That would be a start.
My vision comes from a subscriber who played the beta and subbed since the beginning, but no longer plays.

Interesting different between WoD and BfA: Blizzard knew right way that WoD was a turd and tried to wrap it up as quickly as they could. I remember Blizzard constantly mentioning "the next expansion" during the press cycle of WoD, as if ensuring people there'd be a light at the end of the tunnel. With BfA Blizzard seems genuinely blindsided by the negative reception. They clearly have a full patch cycle planned for it like they did Legion and are scrambling to find out why people don't want to stick around for it this time.

I'm wondering if it has to do with the CMs not letting them know what the forums were really saying. Lore - I think it was - said something to the effect of the CMs didn't think it important enough to let the devs know that there was perceived Horde bias, so the devs were blindsided when they/someone wore a Horde t-shirt after so much "for the Horde!" happened.
Because of that, it's got me thinking that the CMs haven't been doing their jobs well, or that they have their own agenda on how they want the game to be, so they've been leaving out a lot of stuff for the devs to know. It really surprised me to think that the devs don't spend 10 minutes a day every morning checking to see what the latest outrage is on the various WoW forums, in order to see how things are going.
I agree that this time around it's pretty baffling the way the devs seem to not know how bad the azurite system is, et cetera. It's not like people weren't telling them in alpha, beta, and the PTR. I think Lore is wrong and the devs were ignoring the feedback - not disagreeing with it, as he said.

I wonder if someone above Ion put this survey out because it is so transparent and unbiased in its questions, I can't see Ion asking these same questions if it was up to him to make the choices. This is laid out more like a survey from (for example) Best Buy or Walmart (or other big name corporation). I noticed the name of the company that made the survey at the bottom and found it odd because I would expect that Blizz is capable enough of making their own survey, but all the choices you get to select are so specific that I've seen each one pop up in the forums at some point or another and watched Az talk about.
I've worked retail enough to notice patterns in surveys and questions asked and this is a lot different than an "in house" created survey.

It has always asked you for your reason for cancelling. When I cancelled all 3 of my accounts one time years ago, I put in the reason box that I didn't like the newly added repair costs because as a casual I felt like I spent all week grinding away trying to make enough gold just so I could pay for my repairs for raiding on the weekend, it felt like a job, and I already had one of those. When I finally came back, repairs seemed insignificant. So I assumed they must have addressed it to some degree.

    1. No exploring and discovering things on our own. Everything is guided. This made BFA easy to complete.
    2. Still grinding for rep in order to fly.
    3. Professions are not rewarding. I honestly believe the best items in the game should come from professions, and second best from rare drops. Mediocre items from vendors.
    4. PvP isn't what it used to be. In Vanilla, the lands between the two factions were separated and you couldn't just easily walk into the other factions lands. Integration occurred around lvl 30 in places like Stranglethorn Vale. Keeping the PvP alive in the world, but keeping distance between the factions, helped keep players safe from ganking. If they had implemented a punishment system to stop players from ganking lowbies, that would have worked, too. But instead, they integrated all lands so both factions shared cities and questing lands, and did absolutely nothing about how easy this made it for others to gank lowbies.
    5. no freedom for class customization! By gawd, I hate these stupid forced specializations.
    6. No progression of skills like in Vanilla. If I want to get good at daggers, and I'm a mage, my character should be allowed to use a damn dagger and level that thing up! That's pretty much how things work in real life. I want to get good at knitting and I am a pro-football players, I pick up some needles and start practicing!
